This is a continuation of the 'Coming Soon to Virgin TV' thread from last year, which you can find here:
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/11...virgin-tv.html 1. The old thread has been closed, but will remain for information purposes; 2. Media Boy will collate all the information from his various sources and provide it to me once a week, indicating any changed items in bold text; 3. I will update the initial post to show the changes/amendments. In addition to that Media Boy will be on hand to answer any questions that arise and to provide links to other sources of information as they come up. Could I please ask, in order to make the most of this new thread, that we try to stick as strictly as possible to the topic at hand. Thank you :)http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/.....lies/smile.gif |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
true, but unless the made the PPV's very cheap i.e £5 or under then it probably wouldnt be worth paying for that compared to the monthly fee. Sky charge crazy prices for PPV £15.95 ish is crazy for a boxing match that will likely be boring, WWE is more acceptable as you know you are getting 2.5hrs or so of wrestling but for boxing anything over £5 is too much. But if they did this they would lose LOADS of subscribers who buy it to watch their football team play 4 matches a season or so on setanta.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Many thanks TV Boy for all your info about VM in 2008 and here's to you continuing your fine work in 2009.
I don't think I've seen this mentioned for a while so I thought I'd ask if there is any information as to whether BBC News multiscreen is ever likely to appear in ex NTL areas (I assume it is still available for those in fromer Telewest areas). |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
i'd love to see Eurosport HD it's not Sky owned so I would have thought it would be easier to get on the network.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
You mention that Nuts tv is closed on Freeview channel 42, would it be coming to VM then or not

unlikely DC_FC79, its probably gone bust. Was a bad channel. I'd love to see eurosport HD too as the normal channel looks awful, widescreen and fairly decent hd quality would make it far more watchable, shame it wasnt on virgin for the olympics last year:(
mediaboy, do you mean 5 extra channels in addition to it's current BBCHD and OnDemand channel? As they only announced that 4 new channels were coming within 3 months a few weeks ago. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Contrary to popular belief, VM tend to announce things when they happen. In an unpredictable business, it makes good sense to only announce them when they are ready to go. So I'd expect the ITV content to start appearing very shortly.
VOD was first announced on the day it launched. http://pressoffice.virginmedia.com/p...800&highlight= Same with iPlayer. http://pressoffice.virginmedia.com/p...610&highlight= Out of necessity, large amounts of VOD content can't instantly appear. It needs to be propagated over the network to the 55 server farms. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
My point with iPlayer was that there was a great fanfare associated with it. On day 1, the content didn't really increase, at all, it was the UI there. It really did take months for the content to grow to the good standard it is now.
I agree in this case it was probably sensible keeping quiet as if those media reports are anything to go buy virgin had a year's difficult haggling with ITV, so a good job all round. The only thing that suggests to me that ITV vod might appear is the strange disappearance of large amounts of HD vod at more or less the same time as this announcement... |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
You state that Virgin Media will scrap Analogue completely by 2010, this isnt possible and will take much longer if it is to keep serving Westminster,Milton Keynes and parts of Southampton.
The analogue network in Westminster and Milton Keynes is proving very difficult to upgrade and will be a lengthy process. So your looking at 2015 to 2020 unless it closes down the franchises. Also in my area ex-telewest bordering westminster, there are alot of customers still using Analogue,Digital has been available since 2001 in this area but they dont want to upgrade! |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
don't forget there is the governement digital switch over project, not sure what the end date is for that but I thought it was 2012, could be wrong. Once that has finished there won't be an analogue signal for VM to provide.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
I dont understand why Discovery doesnt work with Virgin Media,Smallworld,Wight Cable and Tiscali more closely than Sky, Fox/sky is a large broadcasting competitor of Discovery.
Furthermore, has anyone noticed? Virgin 1 on freeview starts at 6pm! They must be loosing advertising revenue over this! Why not broadcast it 24 hours! And with regards to Analogue switchoff, there is a big problem in Westminster,Most properties you are not allowed to have outdoor Aerials and satellite dishes, therefore if the westminster franchise was to close, people are going to have no TV! Even with Tiscali TV or BT Vision, you still need an aerial! BT wont like it if Virgin Media closes down the franchise as they will loose there tennant! What if BT takes over the customer base again and upgrades the network themselves, however, they will have to stop selling BT Vision products in these areas for competition reasons. And is not possible to rebroadcast Digital channels down Analogue signals??? |

So if Virgin Media wants to carry the new Discovery channel they can BUT they will need to axe one of the Discovery own channels on the network right now. Virgin Media last did this in Oct. when Watch started up - they axe UKTV History +1. |

No it is not possible the area needs upgrade if no one will fund it then t is gone tv is not a neccessary and since all of uk is havig analogue switched off irign are under no obligation to keep providing it unless they want ot which is coslty for them because the equipment is very old and find spare parts isnt easy now |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
Hello Media Boy - Do you have the time to help me with my difficulty that I posted yesterday at 19.35 pm - please. It is a helluva long time since Virgin posted, by mail, a comprehensive list of correct Titles and Channel Numbers - as I am sure you know. At least, with your help, I will again be able to keep up with changes as they happen.

A lot of people think there is nothing much on TV, but many people miss much more than they realise. Programmes such as 'Vanished', 'Sleeper Cell', 'Jericho', 'The Kill Point' and so forth are easily overlooked, which is why I don't rely solely on the TV Guide. I buy a good TV listings magazine and study it for about an hour or so when it comes out on Tuesdays, marking up the good programmes on the more obscure channels, and frankly, the results are extremely good. My daughter was always complaining that there was nothing on until I told her about these programmes and she is extremely pleased - she would have missed them all without my intervention! |

Hi Old Boy - If you look back a few entries you will find that Media Boy posted just the site I seemed to need - here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...s_on_Virgin_TV
But thanks.... HaroldT |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)
There is a list printed in the electronic version of Virgin Media magazine 'Electric!'. Granted that isn't exactly right as there are a few channels with the wrong EPG numbers (i.e. Hallmark+1 being on 191). But on the whole it's correct...
