Re: Problems about upload speed

330750000 is wrong...
im pretty certain that should be 331

what modem is it you have?

Power levels look ok..

SNR is fine...

moaningmags 29-12-2008 15:34

Re: Problems about upload speed

If you have a Webstar modem, the white coloured one with the wavy side and your ex-Telewest, then your modem is off frequency.

192.168.100.1/gscan.htm

Delete the starting frequency type in 331000000 press enter, you should get a message saying set successful and the modem will reboot. Check levels again on Signal tab, if still showing 33075 you need a replacement modem.

If ex-ntl ignore my post :)

iav got motorola sb42000 moderm, should i press reset default on this pic?

moaningmags: that link doesn't work.

moaningmags 29-12-2008 15:42

Re: Problems about upload speed

Ok, go to 192.168.100.1
Click onto configuration delete the numbers from there, type in 331000000
Click save changes then reboot modem button.

Time to call in.

Axegrinder 29-12-2008 15:48

Re: Problems about upload speed

Probably a low SNR issue on the UBR methinks.

shadyrome 29-12-2008 15:54

Re: Problems about upload speed

moaningmags: My signal reset to 330750000. Yesterday my upload speed was fine 485kb, but it only lasted 2hours. maybe its virgin media problem and not my modem? been using it for 6-7 years now.

Ignitionnet 29-12-2008 16:16

Re: Problems about upload speed

You do need to call in.

330.75MHz on downstream is correct as you are in Warrington which, along with other ex-CWC areas, uses a different frequency plan to Telewest areas.

This wouldn't cause the poor upload anyways.

shadyrome 29-12-2008 16:19

Re: Problems about upload speed

Broadbandings, so its the virgin media fault?

Edit, thought you said you do not need to call it then. nvm.

Ignitionnet 29-12-2008 16:29

Re: Problems about upload speed

Something else actually, the download speeds you are providing are impossible with those upload speeds, could you try another tester such as http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk ?

shadyrome 29-12-2008 16:34

Re: Problems about upload speed

Testing ping, doesn't work.

Ignitionnet 29-12-2008 16:45

Re: Problems about upload speed

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

Your browsing seems ok for such a heavily degraded upstream and the 2000 connections / minute the other test gave on your '22kbps' upstream also makes me dubious.

shadyrome 29-12-2008 16:53

Re: Problems about upload speed

i get 2300kb download speed but my uploading isn't working... it stays there for like 3mins... and still remain the same. Should i get a new modem from virgin media? motorola sb4200 should work fine since my internet is only 10mb..

Edit, do i get a free modem from virgin media if i request one?

Hence why my original post said to ignore if ex-ntl. Unusual for SB4200s to be used in ex-ntl.

Hey guys, did a test again this time at night time. Its not back to normal yet, should be 450k atleast. Maybe the problem is virgin media side?

Edit, are they upgrading my internet? Since my internet is 10mb and that new result shows 20mb download speed(well 17mb)

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:02

Re: Problems about upload speed

You're on 20MB not 10 going by the reading above, so your upload should be 768kbps.

I always been 10mb, did 10mb upgraded to 20mb? Maybe virgin media is fixing the upload speed? it can't be my problems

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:09

Re: Problems about upload speed

10Mb was upgraded to 20Mb a long time ago now.

shadyrome 29-12-2008 22:13

Re: Problems about upload speed

are you sure? i am on large, even the website says 10mb.

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:15

Re: Problems about upload speed

How much do you pay for your broadband before discounts?
XL is £37 and is 20Mb
L is £25 and 10Mb

If you are actually on 10Mb, then you're getting higher download speeds than you should be.

shadyrome 29-12-2008 22:17

Re: Problems about upload speed

Always pay £25 for 6-7 years now with telewest boardband. Never have discount since i been with them for that long.

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:19

Re: Problems about upload speed

Could your modem is faulty, resulting in higher than normal download rates while at the same time reducing your upload.
If it was me I'd call in and have them troubleshoot it with a view to replacing the modem.

General Maximus 29-12-2008 22:20

Re: Problems about upload speed

£25 is correct for L. In the old days 10mbit used to be £35 as the top tier and then it went to £37 for £20mbit

shadyrome 29-12-2008 22:25

Re: Problems about upload speed

524k was fast in the old days with telewest :D shouldn't be my modem it was working fine last week, i keep thinking it could be virgin media problem?

Just did a test again, my upload improved abit more my download speed 30mb what the hell?

http://speed.io/pics/1512/1561/speed.io.png

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:25

Re: Problems about upload speed

Ok now it has to be caching, delete temp files and browsing history and try the test again.

shadyrome 29-12-2008 22:30

Re: Problems about upload speed

I used I.E since i never used that one.

Edit could this be some error? surly i should be on 10mb.

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:31

Re: Problems about upload speed

OK, this gets weirder by the minute, again delete temp files and browsing history cos those figures don't make sense.

shadyrome 29-12-2008 22:36

Re: Problems about upload speed

Done what you said, for some reason my upload keep getting lower and my download speed is getting higher... is speed.io reliable?
Edit when i download something it doesnt even go 3.1mb? something is odd.

Re: Problems about upload speed

lol, omg I don't know what else to say.

VM have issues that gives you slower downloads speeds, but they don't have issues that triple your download speed.

If you go to http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/demos/

Scroll halfway down the page and click on a file select to save it, what transfer rate do you get?

shadyrome 29-12-2008 22:46

Re: Problems about upload speed

is virgin media upgrading internet speed in warrington or trying to fix the problem in warrington, that cause this kind of behavior?

---------- Post added at 23:46 ---------- Previous post was at 23:40 ----------

Done the download speed, but imageshack take ages to upload... Its 1.15mb per sec, Yet how come my upload speed is low?

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:48

Re: Problems about upload speed

Right, that means at least your download speed is fine at 1.15Mbps.

Is your upstream power level still steady at 36dBmv?

If so, I think you need to call in so that the issue can be identified.

shadyrome 29-12-2008 22:50

Re: Problems about upload speed

Upstream Value
Channel ID 4
Frequency 22208000 Hz Ranged
Power Level 37 dBmV

Is it different between night time and day time?

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:52

Re: Problems about upload speed

No, it's just that if it was fluctuating that may help explain the issue but it doesn't seem to be.

37 dBmV is correct right? Clearly its virgin media fault then?

moaningmags 29-12-2008 22:54

Re: Problems about upload speed

It's a fault but where the fault lies I'm not sure, could be the modem, the network, it's best if you call in.

Re: Problems about upload speed

Hey guys again, that link you gave me wasn't really that effective. it keeps telling me to use traceip so instead i rang them instead. They said my internet is being shared with lots of people in that arena.... so they told me to wait a few days if it doesn't improve they told me ring them back. I don't understand this, ''my internet being shared in this arena'' i don't have a router or anything. can someone explain?

This link tells you how to set up your email program so that you can access the newsgroups.
I don't see anything on that page about traceip

They gave me this link, I was using 24hourssupport.help. Anyway they told me my internet is being shared in that arena, does this mean my arena is overscribed?
