Important Question
Once you cancel the services the virgin media line is no longer active correct or not.
|
Re: Important Question
Technically that is correct but there have been reports of the service still being active for a few days afterwards.
|
Re: Important Question
Once the line has been cancelled it should no longer be active I have heard stories they the services still work but as long as the disconneciton is booked correctly and done correctly the services will be cancelled and no longer active.
You beat me Russ LOL |
Re: Important Question
The reason i ask is because I live in an apartment block and there are 6 flats within the block. Theres an old gentlemen living downstairs who cancelled his services over a year ago. Today he knocks on my door asking about my virginmedia remote and what type I have. Then I say what you decided to go back to virgin. He says that he has a chipped box and got a mate to put it in. I go downstairs and true enough he has a fully working box with all channels. Im confused about where he is getting his bandwidth from and whether hes stealing from my line.
---------- Post added at 13:00 ---------- Previous post was at 12:56 ---------- If his line is not working then how is the chipped box being supplied with content. |
Re: Important Question
Each flat would normally have it's own cable to the street cabinet. If that hasn't been disconnected at the street, signals may still pass through. However without a paid for service, the signal cannot be decrypted, unless some underhand theft system is being used. We do not discuss the ins and outs of how to do this on here as we do not wish to aid and abet such theft.
As each flat would have been designed for it's own service then you shouldn't be directly affected. However you might want to consider shopping your neighbour : http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/10...ous-dodgy.html |
Re: Important Question
I have no idea what system hes using but was concerned about where his bandwidth was coming from and whether my constant dropouts and bandwidth issues these last months were down to his dodgy mate tinkering with the ntl lines to our complex. I may well report him in a few weeks. I dont want to report him today because he only informed me today and it will be to obvious that im the one who reported him. Also im not happy about him getting for free what im paying for.
Im also wondering about how much bandwidth is being wasted if cancelled services are not being completely cut off and there are still signals passing through. |
Re: Important Question
Well if it's a dodgy install then your neighbour may be feeding interference into the system which could potentially cause the problems you describe, yes.

if it was me i would knock on his door, and tell him your not happy with him knicking your bandwidth, and if he continues to do so. then he,s only got himself to blame for the consequenses. but before you do this, see if his sons are bigger than you, oh and put ya trainers on. ---------- Post added at 13:56 ---------- Previous post was at 13:55 ---------- or as an alternative purchase a set of wire cutters and don a balaclava, you know what i,m getting at. he he |
Re: Important Question
First of all this thread is not going to degenerate in to another arguement about whether or not it's justified to 'grass' on anyone, secondly we will not permit the discussion of damaging VM's or people's property.

Re: Important Question
Russ B, may i ask a question, and before i start feel free to remove it from this thread, you seemed to react very quickly to my tongue in cheek comments, is that because there isnt room in this forum AT ALL for comments like the ones i made , or because it was straying off topic.

Re: Important Question
after what turned out to be an installation nightmare, i did see my preverbial backside, and politley told VM to remove their services, which saw all my services dropped within 20 seconds, including the phone and tv.
now thats what i call efficient. So maybe it depends on who your dealing with, and whether you push their buttons. Obviously i got someone who wasnt having a very good day. Glad to say all was sorted in the end though, |
