Does V+ box still record when virgin service has been removed?

Hello wonder if anyone here can help me out.

I have just cancelled my virgin media tv service as im going with sky HD.
At the moment i have a V+ box which they have stated i can keep and use as a free view box.

However can i still record free view channels with the box or does the recording service get disabled?

Also can i still watch BBC HD on free view?

Thanks

Bummer

Never mind, Still at least i will be able to watch a few HD channels instead of 1 on virgin.

sorry just a couple other questions

Can i still view the stuff thats stored on the box, as in past recorded programs?

Can i still connect the box to my other tv via component cable?

And to get the free view do i just leave the virgin cable plugged in or do i remove it and connect an aerial?

thanks

I'm pretty sure you can't do anything with it. When we had ours installed they forgot to add the V+ to our account and pressing the V+ button just displayed an unsubscribed message.

I know that you will have NO option to watch pre recorded stuff. The TV Drive of the box is disabled.
Not sure about your other questions....sorry

You can't keep the V+ box. If you don't arrange collection you will get a letter as some point advising you will charged £250 if you don't give it back

...unless he has just removed the TV service from Virgin Media and has retained BB and Phone. He may be receiving the 'free' M TV option?????

Indeed, but I was working off the wording in the original post. It says he cancelled the TV, rather than anything that implies a downgrade

Virgin stated that i can keep the V+ box, but they need to arrange to collect my box upstairs (standard)

I have kept virgin broadband and phone, no tv

after the posts above i think i had better ring them to check

It would normally be the V+ box that is collected leaving you with the standard V box

Ok i just called them again, and you are correct.
Its the v+ box thats being collected and they are leaving me with the standard V box with M tv package.

Never mind, thought i would have been able to keep the V+box seing as i had it from release day and was paying £10 a month for a long time for it.

Nope, 'fraid not. It is on rental to you, not hire purchase. VM's equipment remains their own and will never become yours (they may offer to let you pay £250 in lieu of the box being collected when you cancel service, but this really is just to scare you into making sure you hand the box back - as others have said in this thread, it is completely useless to you once you stop paying the subscription even if you do 'buy' it off them).

Its not completely useless, as it liked the idea of being able to connect it to my tv upstairs via component cable.
Its alot better than the standard rgb scart i use to connect the standard V box i have in place at the moment.

So i would have rather had the V+Box for that reason, along with the fact that its looks more pleasing than the black brick that is the V box

if the v+ are useless then why do they sell for quite good money on ebay with a paired card?

just wondering..

Because in the right (wrong?) hands they can be modded and used to steal services from Virgin Media. Which is why we don't allow such discussion on this board. ;)

Sounds like VM want to leave the door 'ajar' to re-sell him V+

Update

Guy came to pick up my box however i was correct, he wanted the black v box and not my V+ box.

So at least i can use it in the bedroom and have nice picture quality via component rather than crappy rgb scart....or may sell on ebay.

If you keep the V+ box on TV:M you will pay £5 per month for the service.

nope im not, got phone, internet and M size package nothing else

Re: Does V+ box still record when virgin service has been removed?

The £5 per month is to use the V+ recording ability. You can keep the physical V+ box on TV M without paying it but it will act like at standard STB

Indeed. And if you try linking to any of them you'll be out of here faster than a robber's dog. ;)
