Weird V-Box Problem
Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me.
For the past few days everytime I plug my v-box in first thing in the morning the three symbols on the front of the box (standby, modem & remote) flash like a strobe light for around 5-10 minutes before the box actually gets to the Virgin logo and from then on it's fine for the rest of the day. Whilst the box is flashing it makes a popping sound when the TV is on the scart selected for the v-box. Should I be concerned about this? |
Re: Weird V-Box Problem
From your second sentence, it appears you unplug the box each night - can you confirm this?

Re: Weird V-Box Problem
Sounds like it is dying. You have three choices. 1) Leave it on. 2) Report it to VM. 3) Put up with it.

Re: Weird V-Box Problem
Thank you for the advice guys I didn’t realise it would be serious enough that I would have to contact Virgin.
Is there a specific time to contact them over the phone so I won’t be put through to a foreign call centre? Just I struggle to understand people on the phone as it is without adding other accents into it. Thanks again for the help. |
Re: Weird V-Box Problem
You could report it on the virginmedia.support.tv newsgroup.

Re: Weird V-Box Problem
i would do but with it probably being a fault i know i'll get put throught to india + thats just a waste of time in my opinion as both customer e.g. myself + person on the other end more often than not fail to understand each other because of the language barrier.

Re: Weird V-Box Problem
Then you probably have no choice but to put up with it until it fails completely, and then phone VM.

Re: Weird V-Box Problem
in sayin that though, i have tended 2 find that if u phone early in the mornin say between 9 + 10, more often than not you get a british voice on the other end of the phone so i might try that.

Re: Weird V-Box Problem
ah those numbers i c. yeah thats what i do, more often than not its a fault + i dial 151 + end up bein put through 2 india.
i can count on 1 hand the number of times i get a british voice when i get through to faults. |
Re: Weird V-Box Problem
Maybe it's the time you call? I presume the Indian call centre is used as a overflow once the UK call centres are full? I usually ring about 2-3pm and usually speak to a British person.

If you decide to go ahead with the reformat, this is how you do it. You need to do all this using the remote, not the front panel buttons. 1) Press the Home button. 2) Press and hold the Play/Pause button until the display says E-00. 3) Press the V+ or TVDrive button. The display will say E-01. 4) Press the ch- button 4 times. The display will say 'hdd4'. 5) The V+ will then begin the reformat, and the display will say 'rft'. This may take up to 5 minutes. Afterwards the V+ will reboot normally. If you get in a muddle when pressing the buttons, press RESET, let the box reboot, then try again. :p: |

Re: Weird V-Box Problem
Just thought i'd update on my situation, I contacted vm and they said they couldn't send anyone out and I was to wait a few days before calling back to try again but since then I haven't had the problem with my box and it's sorted itself out.
