BT advertisement through post

Dear ** ****,
With this great deal, isn't it time to think about coming back to BT?

This offer needs no dressing up. It really is every bit as good as it looks:

When you come back to BT, we'll give you a discount of £95 off our standard new line connection of £124.99 (including VAT)
That means you pay £29.99. All you have to do is sign a line rental contract for a minimum of 18 months.

So, have those big promises your cable company made been delivered? Have you been thinking about that switch? Then don't wait - it takes next to no time to take advantage of theis great BT offer

Yours Sincerely,

Probably the "mother of all broadband" tagline.

Don't forget that BT Broadband uses MaxDSL so the absolute maximum speed you can possibly get is around 7.5Mb.

Re: BT advertisement through post

That's a long contract. Imagine you did sign up, and the following month VM offered a better deal.

Re: BT advertisement through post

So apart from the connection fee (if you stay with VM you won't pay one as you are already connected) what are the advantages?

Does this come under the BT bribes to use Phorm heading?

Does anyone on this forum know the difference between BT (The phone company) and BT Broadband (The ISP). This looks like a phone deal, says nothing about broadband. It's a phone offer, so why do people go on about MaxDSL on BT Broadband and Phorm on BT Broadband.

You can't have BT BB without a BT phone I believe...and Phorm is an issue with BT BB at the moment.

But you can have a BT phone with ADSL from one of many other different broadband providers. It's an ad for BT phone and people start talking about the less positive aspects of BT Broadband. The letter doesn't even mention broadband. I'm aware that you must have a BT phone line for BT broadband, but as this is about the phone service, what makes people jump out and have a go about BT broadband. Are VM subscribers so anti-anything other than VM that the mere mention of a rival company's acronym results in a host of 'negative posts on a different product. Phone and broadband are not the same. I have a BT phone line, but I have Be broadband, it's not limited to under 8 meg and there is no phorm, so the OP could get that. He doesn't even have to touch BT Broadband.

Lol tbh i wasn't even thinking of even switching just that some people might wanna switch bad area oversubscription etc and they migt want to to know about it lol

chickendippers 03-10-2008 10:21

Re: BT advertisement through post

Why would the BT letter make any reference to "big promises" from a cable company? As far as I'm aware VM haven't been running any campaigns related to their landline service.

To be fair (if I must) there is no guarantee there won't be Phorm on the VM network in the future.

Actually I was joking in my original post because of the other thread of BT bribing it's customers to use Phorm..

Now we are now really getting away from the original topic...which isn't Phorm but the offer from BT.

I suggest we return to it.:tu:

I think they are might be losing customers due to Phorm and plus other companies connection/installation fees are alot cheaper so BT need to be more competive with install fee

In trial phase and not rolled out to all customers, also no confirmation if it will be opt-in or opt-out.

The total silence from Virgin Media on this issue having been repeatedly referred to in Webwise press releases is hardly comforting either.

Frankly BT might be a better option, depends on how you use your connection, how good a connection you can get, and how you use your telephone. VM's telephone service is a rip off and total rubbish compared to BT at the moment and a BT landline gives a wide range of broadband options from BT themselves through to Sky Broadband and O2/Be..

The dig at cable company promises is I imagine a dig about how Virgin Media love to blow sunshine up our hindmosts while being the same minimal investment in anything company they always have been with the added bonus of a PR budget that would make ntl and Telewest green with envy.

Not calling it marketing as it's an insult to legitimate marketing people to associate them with the fiction that VM come out with.

Keep in mind when you post on one thread that people don't read every thread. I haven't/won't read a thread on BT Broadband and Phorm as I would never choose BT Broadband as my ISP. :)

Distance from exchange, quality of phone line, orientation of the stars, solar activity, etc, etc ;)
