Hmm, is VM's traffic management system offline?
 

We have 3 users sharing this 20mb connection and from about 8pm onwards, have downloaded about 7gb of data between the three of us.

For some reason, unlike other times, we aren't being traffic shaped in anyway, which is odd.

Any idea why it's not kicking in tonight? heh

8pm onwards looks like you haven't triggered it and not hit the limit or just got lucky

A certain other provider removed all limits from their Max pack and is about to start really advertising the fact so they're seeing how the network holds up without STM perhaps.

The removal of STM in response to Sky is possible but I suspect VM will prefer to push the difference in top speeds and the data you can download in 24 hours rather than remove STM.

I seem to remember previous threads about application throttling from Trax - I guess another possibility is the removal/upgrade of the STM kit to make room for that.

STM would not need to be disabled to add new equipment.

Remember STM isn't a system it's just a few commands on the uBR / CMTS.

tbh why don't they just put a monthly cap on man like comcast then lets see who wants to foot the bill when they bust their cap by miles they won't do it again. btw who the hell doesnloads more than 250gb a month be serious

Were you a member of nthellworld.com (this site's predecessor) when NTL "leaked" details of their capping plans at 4pm one Friday afternoon? By Monday morning, the thread generated had reached nearly 7,000 posts (mostly complaints) and probably over 300 new members. A lot of people where moaning that they needed to download 200 Gig of "Linux Distributions" every month.

Just goes to shows that back then we actually complained and got things to change.

Now we just moan, moan, moan and moan...but still stay with them :)

When Vm provide decent HD Tv and Film channels i will not need to do as much downloading till then i get it from other places. Those figures included lots of streaming TV as well as gaming and general surfing for a large family with 4 pc's and 2 laptops

I would be in favour of some intelligent traffic management following the Comcast regime. If they do that applying a hard cap on top is not necessary.

54.963GB I did just yesterday, midnight to 10.30pm. I got STM'ed twice too. Thats the most I've ever done in a single day, I usually average less than 100GB a month at the moment since I have no space left...

LOL, yeah but did you notice how Virgin Media cant even be bothered to update and keep the current internal VM linux distro's servers up to date and mirrored there.

if they did we wouldnt need to go outside the internal cable network and suffer STM....

ohh wait, Virgin Media DO infact include these internal VM server Linux distro downloading in all your STM totals, :erm:

so you might as well go get em elsewere, were they are at least kept upto date and mirrored within minutes of release.

BTW i wasnt STMed last night but am today again, and also suffering the effects in not being able to even refresh these pages at times averaging 2 times a day and for hours, inside STB hours even when iv not downloaded anywere enough to officially trigger STM on 10Mbit,its been like that for around 2 weeks now, excluding last night in a baguley connected uBR... yet full and clear reasonable 700Kbyte+ slax/FreeNAS torrents at other times.

Dudley. Daytime STM definitely was not in effect today on ubr03.dudl. I downloaded over 10Gig today. I did get hit after 4pm though. So the evening STM is still in place.

Is it just me or does browsing seem faster when STM'd?

STM is a form of fair use policy, since its directed at people who download heavily or even moderatly, so technically VM are lying in their statement.
