Virgin Media Announces Price Increases
Today Virgin media have written to customers advising of price increases accross all (cable only? unconfirmed) packages.
The cost of XL is going up by £2.50 although the price increase is different depending on the package you use. I dont have the other price increase details but if anyone else has the letter please add to this post. Virgin media are unable to provide any specific reason for the price increase but recommend off setting the cost by £1 by signing up for paperless billing, i already use this. Free broadband Technical support is also being highlighted and BBCi Player is now also on demand. They also highlight that Setanta Sports will be free for all customers between 8th - 11th August. in my case i already get setanta sports free, XL package, and i dont use technical support so im due for a price increase for no obvious reason. Just what we all need a price increase to go with the gas, fuel, food and other increases just now!! A source in VM claimed that VM XL customers will be upgraded to 50Mb's at some point in the future but was unable to be drawn on when. |

Re: Virgin Media Announces Price Increases
yep its nothing new, as people already on here knew about these changes, however i disagree about the 20mb being upgraded to 50mb as financially it is going to be an unwise move...just imagine the fastest broadband available and how many people would like these speeds...so dont get ure hopes up buddy...but unless they offer 2.5mb upload speeds i cant see many people signing up...but what do i know

They will be like flies round a honey pot, Virgin will be hard pressed to keep up with demand for 50mb, because people will want to be the first with the new service and to be able to brag about it. Customers will willingly pay £50/£60 or more for the privilege of being able to say "I have got 50mb" to their friends. |
Re: Virgin Media Announces Price Increases
20mb will go to 50mb when 100mb is available IMO - Waaaaaaaay off

Re: Virgin Media Announces Price Increases
The price increase as far as I know is £1 xtra on sky sports if you have XL TV (due to sky have increased there sports prices) and VIP is increasing by £1 to £87

From the start 50Mbit was supposed to be a premium product without STM, it is only recently that neil changed his mind and set it in stone to have STM. But whatever, useless company. |
Re: Virgin Media Announces Price Increases
This is the price rise that went through for most customers in June.
customers who were on a 12 month contract will not get notification of any rise until there contract is due to expire. |

Customer's who had the 3for30 with XL tv included did not have a price rise on 1st June like everyone else...Instead they were kept at the £30 price until the offer ended. At this point the XL TV package was increased by £1.50 and then the bundle price was increased by £1 Also from 1st September Customers on XL TV will pay £1 extra for sky sports. So £19 Per month... This also affects the VIP package so that will be £87 if you don't pay by DD. |

It actually works much like BT's FTTH where the 100Mbit is always there if you need it (large downloads or uploads, for example) it just settles down to as you say 30Mbit (minimum) when it's not really being used, so the bandwith can be shared equally, fios in the US works this way as well, you're pretty much guarenteed the 100/100 If you need it/can push it/can find a server to handle it. |
Re: Virgin Media Announces Price Increases
i bet the recent ukmail price increase has something to do with this
