Diablo III (PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)

Diablo III has officially been announced at the Blizzard invitational in Paris today. It will be released for PC & Mac.

No release date has been given, but that's no surprise with Blizz games.

The official Diablo III site is now up and running and you can find it here

http://eu.blizzard.com/diablo3/

Includes both cinematic and gameplay trailers as well as more info.

It's been a long time coming and it was expected to be one of the next announced games after Starcraft 2 which is yet to be released.

Speaking as an old Die hard Diablo 2 fan - I cannot wait for this game and I suspect many more will feel this way too.

Having seen the gameplay movie I'm inclined to agree Mick. Diablo, like the Warcraft series are great games, and this is looking like another top seller even at this early stage.

Now I wonder if they'll ever do a new version of Rock and Roll Racing (yes I'm old!) :)

Make no mistake girls - you can own the TV remote for the next month or so - This is one of the biggest anticipated PC games of all time. Don't beleve me? Call of Duty, Halo, World of Warcraft, all big game titles, heard of these? Of course ALL heavily pre-ordered on the likes of Amazon. But Diablo 3 has over taken all of them and become Amazon's most pre-ordered PC game of all time.

I never liked diablo myself. Love all the starcraft games and warcraft 1 & 2 though.

So... anyone got it yet? Got through all the server & installation issues that have plagued some people and actually had a play?

I'm very tempted. I don't generally game on my PC, but I have fond memories of the previous games, and my PC is apparently above the recommended spec., so I may give it a go...

re: Diablo III (PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)

I was once a WoW fan, nothing like the hardcorers but I did get sucked in. When I got to level 70 and after all that time the skill level was still the just about the same as it was on level 1, just hit scores were a lot bigger. I feel with blizzard games you have to put the hours in for very little gain. It's designed to make to want to get better equipment after farming for hours, day or weeks just so you can kill things more easily but only to find out the enemies have just got a lot tougher so it all balances out. It's just too repetitive and pointless.

I feel this is the same with Diablo 3, I think if you do a few levels, then it's the same thing throughout, just aiming for that drop, wanting that next level up, endless grinding the same as WoW with a sure fire way to get serious RSI at the same time.

I'm sure it's going to be a massive hit, if the servers stay online that is. But I'm resisting this one as I know I'll see through it and get bored of it all too quickly.

re: Diablo III (PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)

my son got this one yesterday, it has been on pre-order for several months!!!

The first big problem with the game are the specs needed to play, although his pc could handle to game, it has a problem with onboard grahpics.

So went out and got him an external graphics card and all is now good (it was worth it for the peace lol)

After installing, and the problems with the server he did get online to play the game, but takes ages in setting up, creating character etc.

After a few game crashes due to server problems he stated that the game is fantastic, well worth the wait and the game play was awsome.

So much so that even though he is 22 he had to be told to go to bed at 3am due to work today!!!!!

I think they are going to release this for consoles and I've heard from various sources that there could be a console version available as early as July. But don't quote me on that.

Launch night was a disaster from a technical point of view, but kinda expected with about 3 million people trying to connect all at once.

I've managed to play and got a level 16 Demon Hunter and I am almost at the end of Act 1 and I have been playing for like 10 or so hours now, if you're used to previous versions and how big the game is, then, Act 1 in Diablo 3 is way bigger and deeper than Act 1 in Diablo 2. Plus I believe Blizzard are going to introduce future expansions, with added content and a possibility that they could bring back some of the old characters. Sorceress, Paladin, Amazon etc.

There isn't actually any 'grinding' the character like in previous versions. ALL Stat points upon leveling up are distributed automatically, Blizzard wanted to remove the aspect of people not knowing how to build their character properly and breaking their character early on in the game, which happened in D2 until they introduced the respec of stats and skills in a recent patch update, yes Blizzard still patching a 12 year old game!!!.

Skills are also automatically assigned and I have to say, in D2 you had to wait until level 30 to get some proper decent killing power with a decent skill in itself. But the Skills in Diablo 3 are pretty nifty early on and I am not finding, like in Diablo 2, that I am never going to use a lower end skill again after a certain level.

The looting is overwelming, you do get a lot of useless stuff, but some of it can be used to salvage and can then use the ingredients to make a more powerful item.

All in all, it's a great game, it's not Diablo 2, even though it's owned by Blizzard, it wasn't made by the same team who made Diablo 2. (They were called Blizzard North, who have since moved on to make games like Torchlight and are currently making Torchlight 2 which is due for release very soon actually).

I wouldn't expect that expansion anytime soon though. Still waiting for the first starcraft 2 expansion and that's nearly 2 years old now. Once it is launched there will be a 3-5month wait while the multiplay beta runs so assuming this launches tomorrow (which it won't) we still wouldn't have the game until august at the earliest or more likely October.

Sounds good. C&VG like it so far: http://www.computerandvideogames.com...rst-ten-hours/

I managed to get a Guest Pass key from another forum last night, so I've downloaded the client and will give the "Starter Edition" a whirl to see if I like it (& if it runs well enough).

That's what I did with starcraft, I do like the way blizzard do that. Its better than a demo and gives you a chance to test compatibility etc.

If past blizzard releases are anything to go by you could download the digital edition now, get it installed and patched if it needs it and just apply your CD Key when it arrives.
A friend of mine has my game CD for another game I keep mentioning here so he could play with my guest key since his internet connection was fine for playing the game but would take an age to install. I formatted my machine a few weeks ago without thinking that I didn't have my CD back and just installed it from blizzard.com instead.

Played a little but of the game although I was a Beta Tester....so far so good still though I dont really rate the graphics on...I met be going for retro but I would have prefered an updated version of D2.

I'll plod on with the game see how it goes...I like the idea of buying and sell items for real money

It seems the game is getting slated in the reviews. Probably down to the launch issues, and some have completed it on normal in about 7 hours. 12 years in the making and completed in 7 hours isn't good enough. Okay you have harder levels afterwards but it depends if the novelty stays or wears off if you want to do it all over again.

It mostly seems to be the same sort of Metacritic trolling that Mass Effect 3 suffered.

7 hours is utter tosh and so is even 12 hours. Any person who says they have completed normal, in such a fast time, they are definately not playing the game as it was intended. I've put 27 hours in to the game already, 21.5 hours on one character which is level 26 (60 is max level) and just started act 3 and just started another character which is level 14 and at the end of act 1.

I got 3 more characters to build up and several difficulty levels to trail though for each character and I need to get to the higher difficulty levels to get some of the best gear for each character. I am in this game for the long haul and with the probability of future game expansions and further added content, millions more are likely to be too.

People need to forget about the launch night, with millions of people World wide trying to connect to just three servers that are distributed on three different continents, it's hardly surprising they fell over.

Some of the criticisms are concerns that the game is nothing like Diablo 2, well to be fair, if it was going to be exactly like Diablo 2 then it should have been an expansion. Diablo 3 is a whole new game, with new game mechanics, new characters and it's the same type of game play, role play with strategy rolled in to one. Monsters AI in Diablo 3 is a vast improvement to Diablo 2. Graphics are richer and more enhanced.

My main concern before the game came out, that it was going to be short, but having now played through two large acts, the game is vast, both Act 1 and Act 2 in Diablo 3 are extremely large and deep. I am pleased to say that the game has exceeded my expectations in this regard.

And well, if people still aren't truely satisfied, then Runic games, (Team formally known as Blizzard North. The game developers behind Diablo 1 and 2). Will be releasing Torchlight 2 in the not too distant future.

Lets face it any game you are going to get the die hard fans the low life of society...the teens that dont have a life or family they dont work or the benefit people they can stay up and play the game 24/7 and then rate it as a crap game.

They burn them self out far too quick but these people move on they have a point to show in life that they can do things better than anyone else only they dont have a life beyond the computer.

Real people have a computer and a life and I will spend plenty of time playing D3 it will take me a while to complete the game with 1 charactor.

I do like it so far although I used to like the bonding of Items from D2 I dont think you can do that with D3 can you? they seem to have taken out a lot of the elements D2 had for instance the ability to atribute you skill points to your character but they have simplfied the game for users not to mess up the character at the start

Mick 19-05-2012 12:19

re: Diablo III (PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)

Bonding of items? You talking about Set items? Yes they are in D3 but I believe they are high end gear and appear in the later difficulty levels. I don't think there is any low level Set items, but given time, after they add content via patches and expansions, they may very well add such items.

My disc version came today from Tesco Entertainment :)

No Guest Passes in the box though , so I can't spread the love :(

I've used the key to upgrade my Starter Edition to the full Standard Edition - no need to even touch the DVD.

BattleTag = MisterTez#2788 [for some reason "Tezcatlipoca" is against the BattleTag rules, so I had to go with my PSN name :( ]

Diablo III has been ported to the 360 and PS3. The console versions are due out next week, and have had *very* good reviews.

They also benefit from...

- No need for Battle.net.

- No always-online requirement.

- No Auction House.

- Offline mode... including co-op.

Diablo III just isn't there for me, I feel like Torchlight II is a better 'sequel' for Diablo II. I play on PC by the way. Unfortunately the game is linked to my Battle.net which has my SC2 and WoW account on otherwise someone would have been welcome to it. I can't give you 80 paragraphs of why I dislike Diablo III but it's heavily based upon the lines of the promotion of the game to the final release. Blizzard hyped me up for things that didn't actually end up in the game or didn't work as they claimed. I feel like I didn't get enough for £60 and 6 years in the making.

D3 on consoles is an excellent game. We don't have to use Battle.net accounts or always be online. What don't you like about it? I'd like to see if it was fixed on consoles.

These for starters and the way Blizzard announced various features for the game but neglected to mention they'd be in patches rather than release, such as PVP. I'm too into Torchlight II now to give Blizzard another shot.

I love it :)

I played the PC version last year, but never got around to playing any further than the end of the demo/beta section. I don't really "do" computer gaming...

I'm really enjoying it on the 360, though. I prefer using a pad instead of keyboard+mouse, prefer using my TV instead of a monitor, plus it's missing the main things people criticised about the PC/Mac version :)

So... I never actually got past Act I on the 360 version last year, as I got sidetracked by GTA V :erm:

But, I bought the Xbox One version last month (Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition), and finished Act IV last night.

This is such an *awesome* game :)

"Just" Act V (Reaper of Souls) left now for the main story mode, and then there's Adventure Mode and the Endgame...

It's an awesome game :)

I've not touched it in a while, though, not since finishing Act V Reaper of Souls.
