Re: STM
Most people believe it stands for Steal Their Money
VM Call It System Traffic Management mind you....but it feels like the same thing. |

How big was the file?

Re: STM
To get an accurate idea of your download speeds you need to do multiple file downloads from several websites at the same time.
For instance: Start 2 simultaneous downloads from the VM demo games server plus 2 simultaneous downloads of Zen test files. |

And you can ask neil, its system traffic management, it was changed from subcriber traffic management quite some time ago. |
Re: STM
Thanks for the negative rep, ceedee, very grown up of you.
[I have a policy of publicising negative rep, incidentally] TraxData - you were wrong about the first platform to deploy the new CMTS, recently: Quote:
A lot of what you post is obviously well informed, however. I'm just a bit wary of people taking everything you say as gospel (particularly when I have to self-censor on the same subjects due to reasonably privileged information, and thus can't always go 'hang on a minute, it's really xyz'). Also, you need to define 'enabled' better in posts like that, since to my mind '50Mb enabled' means: * new CMTS installed and cutover, * new CPE tested and certified for BAU, * diagnostic tools ready, * training complete for call centres and engineers, * DHCP configs complete and * billing/provisioning system updated so we can actually sell and install it Miss out one of those and it's not 'enabled', to my mind. To a customer all that condenses down to 'can I buy it?', of course, which is the true test of all this. What did you mean by 'enabled', incidentally? On the STM question, googling for 'subscriber traffic management' gets nearly twice as many hits as 'system traffic management', and the latter phrase doesn't seem to have much to do with cable. A lot of the hits for 'subscriber' refer directly to Virgin's implementation or Cisco's technology that lies behind it. Most of the hits for 'system' seem to refer to road traffic management schemes. |

Yes i know the locations, when i referred to ex-cw getting it first that is due to the config being rolled out there first (tested, confirmed, hackers had a field day with trying to get it to register on the headend) No worries, that is the exact reason i dont release technical details on the said subject, i dont let on more than people need to know. If i had given out technical information my source would indeed be found out amongst other people i am also in contact with. And as i'm sure you know, VM dont take kindly to letting their customers know anything. As no doubt you have your contacts (as you have said) the one time i did release abit of technical info it kicked up quite a fuss with management over at VM, lesson learnt. As per the STM question, trust me, it's changed to system traffic management per ready for the application throttling rollout (which is coming) along with the overnight STM. |

The 'hero' will soon be 'zero' at this rate. |

This is at 5:30 AM on a Sunday mornig!! This is the best I've ever got. I think I can safely say from the above results that I'm not getting the 20Mb service I'm paying for. And I'm not moaning because I got some bit torrent client running 24/7 download gigabytes of crap. |
Re: STM
Recommend you post the results of some tests for helpful folk here to look over and, if they can't offer a solution, then contact Tech Support via their dedicated newsgroup.
All the details are in this post. |

There is no overnight STM and there is no application throttling rollout! Who ever is feeding you that one.. Is having you on or just plain wrong.. :( |

And no, it's changing...ask alex, what him dodge the question like he always does. Infact this was also brought up on the newsgroups a few weeks back with people having their torrents shaped (out of stm hours)...which he gave his usual "looks like im giving you an answer but im not then deny it all" attitude. Overnight STM is currently on the tables to be trialed, actually, seems your information isnt upto scratch either ;). |
Re: STM
If you can manage to do it without giving your source away.... explain a little more about the application throttling.
Are we talking P2P applications? |

Grr damned throttling!!! Gone midnight and they're still at it... What's the point of the 5hr thing?! Can't they just restrict it till 9pm then let it go back up to normal? |
Re: STM
Unfortunately the throttling can last until 01:59 assuming thay are playing by their own rules.
(Which, as far as I am concerned, they are not) |

Well it's 09:32 and this is pants seeing as I'm on a 20Mb connection! |
Re: STM
Traxdata are you suggestion that STM is going to be on 24 hours a day? If so what is the suggested download quota for the 24 hour period before STM kicks in?
|
Re: STM

It is a limitation of the feature.. VM will have in the near future the ability to kill all penalties at a set time. So they will likely stop STM at 2100 and kill all penalties at 2300 or midnight. ---------- Post added at 11:02 ---------- Previous post was at 11:01 ---------- Quote:

Re: STM
the upload is way too high for stm'd
|
Re: STM
No, sorry, went a bit off topic in my last post. Last nights figures of 4818kb/s Down and 167kb/s Up were obviously the STM'd ones.
This morning I did a test whilst reading this forum and got the 6331/654 speeds...just saying, they were crap results for a 20Mb connection.... |
