Help!
Ok hello allow me to introduce myself .. My name is Ashley Oconnor i have purchased NTL back in 2005 - 2006 i've had no problems what so ever with it until the past 3-4 days.
Basically every 5-10 Minutes the internet would disconnect forcing me to take out the power cable and place it back in for the connection to reset, Sometimes it would just reset by itself, Also sometimes it just disconnects for about 5 seconds and fixes itself, Unfortunatly this is rarely the case. The 'Send' light on my modem keeps flashing when i do get disconnected and the other day my 'Ready' light was flashing but for now its just the 'Send' light. Below are the logs from my latest Disconnect. Re: Help!
What BB service are you on and what modem are you using.
If you are using a router try connecting direct to eliminate the router from the equation. Can you open your browser with http://root:root@192.168.100.1 click on 'login' Now let us know what it says the values for:- Downstream Modulation Downstream SNR Downstream Receive Power Level Upstream transmit Power Level Maximum Downstream Data Rate Maximum Upstream Data Rate |
Re: Help!
Hello, Thank you for responding to this thread.
i am on a NTL Cable Modem: 250 Model Number: E08C007 2MB Broadband Downstream Modulation: QAM256 Downstream SNR: 41.5 dB Downstream Receive Power Level: 5.2 dBmV Upstream transmit Power Level: 49.0 dBmV |
Re: Help!
Hmmm your downstream recieve power level might be considered borderline but overall that looks pretty good.
You don't say whether you use a router? Have you checked that all connections from the wall box (isolator) to your computer are good? |
Re: Help!
I do use a router however at the moment its plugged directly as i was wondering earlier whether it would fix it direct, Obviously not, And i have checked the cable yes however could that be the problem? A cable with say an indent in it or something? Say like a door kept shutting on it and the cable gets squeezed together and bent if you get me.
But surely that would stop the whole connection permanently and not in small 5 minute disconnects |

Look at replacing your Ethernet cables first, Cat5E patch cable. Your logs are actually quite normal, because when a modem is rebooted it receives every single update that was ever issued for that modem required or not. Check my own logs, I even have logs with the year 1970 in them!. 2008-05-10 05:48:57 3-Critical 0x04E33A74 Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out 2008-05-08 12:48:15 5-Warning 0x040DC13C DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response 008-04-25 15:42:02 4-Error 0x041D0444 SW upgrade Failed before download - File not Present 2008-04-25 15:42:02 6-Notice 0x041D0318 SW Download INIT - Via Config file A,.iyewrkldJ 2008-04-25 15:41:59 6-Notice 0x045A80E4 TLV-11 - unrecognized OID 1970-01-01 00:00:14 3-Critical 0x040D9A2C DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response. 1970-01-01 00:00:11 3-Critical 0x040D9964 DHCP FAILED - Discover sent, no offer received 1970-01-01 00:00:11 3-Critical 0x040D9964 DHCP FAILED - Discover sent, no offer received 2008-04-11 15:23:27 3-Critical 0x04E33A74 Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out 2008-04-11 09:40:33 3-Critical 0x0501BDC8 SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire FEC framing 2008-04-09 09:53:43 5-Warning 0x040DC13C DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response 2008-03-26 09:23:47 4-Error 0x041D0444 SW upgrade Failed before download - File not Present 2008-03-26 09:23:47 6-Notice 0x041D0318 SW Download INIT - Via Config file KDHSUBsgvca6 2008-03-26 09:23:47 6-Notice 0x045A80E4 TLV-11 - unrecognized OID 1970-01-01 00:00:15 3-Critical 0x040D9A2C DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response. 2008-03-26 01:18:34 3-Critical 0x04E33A74 Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out 2008-03-23 09:03:52 5-Warning 0x040DC13C DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response 1970-01-04 12:13:32 4-Error 0x040D9A93 ToD request sent- No Response received 1970-01-04 00:23:30 4-Error 0x041D0444 SW upgrade Failed before download - File not Present 1970-01-04 00:23:30 6-Notice 0x041D0318 SW Download INIT - Via Config file JKDHSUBsgvca 1970-01-04 00:23:30 6-Notice 0x045A80E4 TLV-11 - unrecognized OID And my modem is working fine. |

It definately sounds a likely suspect and needs eliminating by replacing with a new cable. You will probably need a VM engineer out to do it. |

I am talking about the Ethernet cable not the Coax, it has been in other forums and an article online, cannot remember exactly but I have read it.:) |
Re: Help!
Hello, I would like to bring your attention back to this thread, I have recently had another modem installed by VM, And i still get the same issue, Its only been happening for the past few days however, I find this highly annoying and may end up leaving VirginMedia for good.

Re: Help!
Direct connection?
Tried a new patch cable? What happens to the lights on your modem when your connection drops? |
Re: Help!
Im running though a router also, However the same problem happens when i connect direct, I don't think its a patch cable because of the fact, When the connection drops the other computers such as Xbox, 2 Laptops also drop. And when the connection does drop usually the Send light flashes about once per second and i THINK the ENET flashes.
Please help me this is really annoying me |
Re: Help!
The ENET light flashing is a good sign, means there activity between the modem and pc/router.
|
Re: Help!
Loads of questions I'm afraid, Ashley... but I'm sure we'll find some answers soon.
Which router are you using? Did you mean that you didn't experience the same repeated connection drops for a while after installing the new modem? Which UBR are you connecting to? (Click on "Connection" near the top of this page but delete out your IP number) Could you copy across your current modem power level (as you did in post 3 above)? |
Re: Help!
Sure thing, Also the recieve light flashes not the send my mistake,
I am using netgear WGR164 router, cpc1-hatf4-0-0-cust972.lutn.cable.ntl.com would be the UBR and Downstream SNR: 40.8 dB Downstream Receive Power Level : 3.3 dBmV Upstream transmit Power Level : 59.5 dBmV Downstream Modulation : QAM256 |
