It'll only be the same price as the old 3(and later 4)mb, and quite a few people paid for that

Before joining ntl I was with BT paying £29.99 pm for 512Kb. Before I left BT I got a call from them offering me BB for £26.99 pm (for being a loyal customer), I thought it was strange, beware of Greeks bearing gifts and all that. A few weeks later they upgraded the service to 1Mb and it was then that I discovered that my line was limited to 512Kb.

Soooooo, even though this weekend I am struggling to download at 1Mb with VM it is still better value than my old service especially as I now get Phone XL for £9.45 pm.

Hopefully one day VM will be bought out by Delboy Trotter and things will improve.

Not what i was told a couple of days ago i was told that the 50 meg was going to be an upgrade on the 20 meg service if this aint true i want my contract null and void as i was told by retentions this was happening if i renewed my 12 month contract with them .

It is not going to be a free upgrade. You might get it because you were "promised" it, but I have my doubts.

I don't see it being £50, thats ridiculous. Probably all 20 meg customers will get offered it at a £10 premium over their current pricing.

then thats something u best take up with them then, but its in no way going to be a free upgrade they would loose to much money.

I will definately take it up with them as they put me on another 12 month contract under false pretenses

That would be £37+£10=£47 then. Near as damn-it to 50 quid in my book.

some people are just pedantic and look for problems and dont class £47 as being around £50, sad really.

Nah 50meg is a whole new service, well thats what theyre saying anyway.

dont know if its true, but i cant see existing 20meg customers paying the same for 50meg. Especially when trialists paid 10.00 premium over their 20meg price for the 50meg trial.

And personally, you cant get anywhere NEAR 50meg on a standard residential line in the uk. So the £47.00 pricemark id say is adequate. I reckon its for 2 things. 1 To say hey, weve got 50meg so up yours to the rest of the uk broadband providers and 2. for enthusiasts who want to say up yours to their fellow geeks by saying hey, ive got 50meg HAHA.

^latter has to be me :P but only if its on special staff price! wont pay more than £5.00 per month for it tbh.^

Wasn't there a suggestion that the 50Mb service wouldn't have STM?
(I'd expect that would be more of an attraction to the geeks and mega-downloaders than willy-waving.)
Or was it all just me dreaming wishfully?

Closest you're gonna get to Symmetric is SDSL. Sadly, i think it's only offered upto 4MB, and even then, it's restricted the same way ADSL is.

Going off the current price list for *new* 20Mb customers (£20) 50Mb will be £30, taken with phone of course. ;) Has to be a bargain.

i completely disagree with u, theres no way in hell that they will charge JUST £30 for a 50mb service, that would be stupid of them and they would loose a lot of money.

If want to take part in the trial then you have to be in Ashford, Dover and Folkestone. This is all down to fact that these area's are only zones that has DOCSIS 3.

There again, loyal long term XL BB customers paying £37 atm would only have to find another tenner pm to upgrade to XXL BB whereas the bargain basement customers currently paying £20 will have to fork out another £27 pm to upgrade. This is of course IF the price is going to be £47 pm for everyone.
VM will probably see this as a benefit for being a long term customer. :dunce:

When the 50mb is introduced then im sure VM will bring all the 20mb users down to a suitable price but theres in now way in hell that 50mb is going to be cheap.
