Re: Earthquake

Same in NG17, very unsettling

I was sitting at my computer upstairs and it felt like someone had yanked my chair back, then I felt the house tremble and I thought I heard the wind pick up really loud as though a Tornado had just passed (not the aeroplane type) then it was over in about 15 seconds, went outside but it was calm so it didn't look like a Tornado.

I think we've had these quakes before where I live but it's the first time I've actually experienced one, makes you wonder what people who've gone through a proper quake must feel like if a small one like this causes alarm!!!

Just been woken up by this now out of nowhere.
I'm up in the loft and everything shook like it was about to fall. Loud rumbling sound for what seemed like ages.

It's certainly gone and hit the East Midlands.

I was sitting there playing COD4, & thought either that's a bloody realistic airstrike someone's launched at me, or there's a damn earthquake.

No damage to anything AFAIK.

Flubflow 27-02-2008 02:58

Re: Earthquake

We felt the tremors way up here in the Middlesbrough area (Stockton-on-Tees) at the same time (just before 1am).
It shook beds and a few things creaked and groaned slightly but no damage known as yet. This happened twice, approx 3 seconds each and approx 5 few seconds apart. Not violent but enough to wake up a light to moderate sleeper.
I was already awake in bed but it woke up others in the house (except the 5 year old who sleeps so deeply that the littke tike has now proved that she can in fact, as the saying goes, sleep though an earthquake! :) )

I've never felt one before and it was hard to describe but it sort of felt like a truck had crashed into a house very nearby, with all the vibrations but without any associated noise.

Felt it here in Hartlepool too, bed started shaking and wardrobes.
Was chattin on the laptop at the time and loads of people said they felt it, so I knew straight away what had happened and I wasnt going crazy haha

First time my beds moved like that in years!

It's my second one :( Lot worse this time though - last time it was a gentle rumble, increasing in strength, then dying away. This time, really strong wobbling of the floor, pretty much instantly. Really strong shock waves - the vases in the hearth wobbled. No damage though - not that I can find.
