Threats to kill
Right then you legal lot of CF, if someone made a threat against your life by the way of someone is going to kill you what do you do?
1. Would you strike while the iron is hot and take him out before he gets the chance to have a pop at you. 2. Leave it and see if anything happens. 3. Fill him in then phone the Police and Ambulance then explain yourself to them when the damage has been done? The 3rd option sounds good to me. |
Re: Threats to kill
If someone made a threat against my life and I knew it was a real threat rather than an empty one, then me personally I would do him before he got the chance to do me. But as with most things in life its people talking BS thinking they are much more than what they really are.
I would choose option 1 if the threat was real, option 2 if it was an empty threat and I wouldnt choose option 3 if I knew that my liberty would be at risk because regardless of the situation you stove somebodys head in and go to the police you'll be nicked unless you could absolutly proove it was self defence. |
Re: Threats to kill
I wouldn't follow any of your suggestions.
What I would do is procure a situation whereby the offender could be encouraged to repeat any threats he/she might have made. I would hopefully have a witness and would definately have a dictaphone to record such threats. Th ideal would be if the threats were made via a telephone call. They could then be recorded and the fact that the call was made is also recorded (i.e phone records). As it is an offence to make threats to kill i would then see if i could interest the police. revenge is a dish best served cold. |
Re: Threats to kill
If you believe it's a real threat, inform the police now before anything happens. If you tell then you believe you are in danger they will take action.
|
Re: Threats to kill
If someone wanted you dead for real they would just do it and not threaten . Why make life difficult for themselves and put you on your guard. Most likely its someone putting the frighteners on you
|
Re: Threats to kill
Sorry folks I took option 3 about 15 minutes ago, it's not like me because I'm not the violent type, I get on with anyone who gets on with me but when a threat is made against your life you have to take it seriously, I didn't know if he had a knife on him when I collard him this morning so I got there first.
I'm sat here now waiting to see if the police turn up and cart me away. |

Oh dear, let us know how you get on

Re: Threats to kill
As Zing says, if they were going to do it, they would do it. However, looking at the options, I would choose option 1.
I would get a few guys, bundle him into the back of a transit van, take him on a wee ride and give him a pair of concrete boots, before dropping the wee ned into the River Clyde! :D:D |

Hopefully the Old Bill doesn't read this forum, otherwise premeditation may be invoked. :(

Dude dude dude... you broke the cardinal rule and you instigated an altercation. You are now guilty of assault. How difficult is it to let them come to you? if they instigate you then can defend yourself. If you do get carted away its your own fault as you didnt think about what you were doing imo. Did this guy actually threaten you himself? if so why didnt you do him then instead of waiting? I hope your not gonna tell me someone else told you |

Re: Threats to kill
I'd expect to see this on some of the more *ahem* 'dubious' forums I frequent - but not here!
Unprovoked (without evidence) attack - not good. See your situation Nidge, but you should have just spoke to the police. IANAL but I'm reasonably sure they don't need evidence to back up an allegation of threat at this stage. They'd have gone round to have a word. That said, I don't know how advanced/serious it was. Hope all works out ok anyway. |
Re: Threats to kill
He could not have been that scared as he went after him and beat him up. If this guy is the type to own a gun or has the rep of being likely to use a blade then I doubt Nidge would have gone after him.
A true psycho will come back and do you no matter how hard you beat him time and time again I know a few people who scare me in that way . I could fight them and win and they could stab me in my bed at a later date. One guy I know did this and the chap he knifed died 3 times but was resuscitated and still never turned him in crazy world we live in |

What did you do to him?

I wqent to the piccies the other night and saw No Country For Old Men http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Coun..._Old_Men_(film) Now the guy in the film who is the killer, I would not want him pursuing me. He's just the kind of guy I'd like to hire. But then i suspect he is so mad that he'd carry out his assignment then kill me too. |
Re: Threats to kill
Are we talking hypothetically here, or did this really happen?
|
Re: Threats to kill
daaannn safffff,,,i presume you mean the original post? Apparently it stemmed from an original in yer actual face..I'm gonna kill you type threat. A lot of people say that as a figure of speech, sometimes humorously. Sometimes people mean it , but rarely. Those who mean it just do it and don't shout about it.
|
Re: Threats to kill
well if he didnt mean but is the type to be quite violent then he will either stab you in the back or whack you with a baseball bat if he isnt the type then you beat up a guy for nothing
Another query. What did you do to provoke the threat? |
Re: Threats to kill
Oh I thought the original poster was aking a hypotheical question.
If someone issued a threat of "i'm goin to kill you" in the pub, wouldn't it be followed by a smashed glass to the face? |
Re: Threats to kill
I think its difficult to comment, as only the OP was there. So we wouldnt know how it was said, i.e was it said in anger, as a joke, or with intent.
IMO if i felt that my life was in imminent danger then I would take action there and then. Otherwise i would let the police handle it just to cover my own back as I wouldnt want to get to know 'big bubber' for something that could be avoided. By going around and sorting it after the event, then it does look pre-meditated as if youve had time to think about it and then go and find the person then youve had time to contact the police. But if you've just given them a good kicking as soon as they've made the threat then at least you can say you were doing it self defence |
Re: Threats to kill
Option 1 but I'd be on holiday when the lads go round ;). That way it cant be pinned on me

Re: Threats to kill
If someone gave such a threat I would go to the police and insist that they pay the guy a visit. This could atleast scare him off and make him see sense or for him to know that you are taking the mattter very seriously.
These days taking things into your own hands is just asking for trouble as people prosecute, press charges, etc for any reason. I know it must have been not the best thing to hear that someone made a threat to your life, but you hurting them doesnt do you any favours if this escalates into a court case. Good luck. I hope all turns out ok for you. |
