Clinton for Prez, Obama for Veep - then in 8 years time, he gets the top job.

I can't see it happening at all - they loathe each other. Whichever of them gets the Democrat nomination, they won't be picking the other as a running mate.

Depends, A lot of attention is focused on the democrates, the two candidates, especially Obama, have a lot of momentum behind them and in primarys in which independents can vote most of them have been doing so to vote for one of the democratic candidates.

The democrates have the drive, energy and momentum that is capitiving peoples attention. They will field the first woman or black candidate in American History.

The republicans are suffering too much from the Bush years and people want something different.

It will be very hard for the republicans to win IMO.

Though there is some bridge building going on at the moment. The worst case scenareo for the Democrats is splitting the vote between Clinton and Obama and the Republicans getting back in as a result.

A democrat friend of mine voted in the Republican Primaries to influence the best of a bad lot if they get back in!

But a lot of middle america (i mean geographically - the breadbasket states) are naturally republican. The coasts are more liberal, thus more likely to be democrat.

Heh, whoever gets to win this election, as the leader of a major superpower in the world really gets to dictate which way the world swings from then on, it's their finger on the button so-to-speak, it's worth being even just slightly interested in these things as it could well have an effect on your life whether you like it or not :)

to be honest.... I know nothing to do with our politics let alone americas.

I just hope whoever gets it, is probably as good as clinton was.

His missus might, the coloured guy who sounds like a terrorist might, but who really knows.

I know they will have the main power, but what really does it all mean to us?

The person who wins the nomination does have a choice on who should be on the ticket with them. However, the choice is really dependent on who could help them win an election and hating each other may not be enough of a reason to choose them.

I think if Obama wins, Edwards will be VP. Properly Obama if Clinton wins. I do hope the democrates vote for Obama, I think he has a better chance of getting the Dems back in Office than Clinton does

Is the US really the last superpower or is it a superpower in its dieing days? China as the major providor of goods to the country is taking $$$ from it on a daily basis, the dependancy on foreign oil means $$$ are going to the Arab states daily.

The Banking crisis on sub-prime was only as small as it was so far (and that is not that small) because Sovereign investment funds from Arab and Pac-Rim countries have provided more working capital to those banks, similarly SocGen has issued more share capital to a sovereign investment fund to prevent it going bust.

The world is currently in the middle of a fairly large transfer of assets from America and Europe to BRIC and other developing nations. Life will be interesting for the next few years.

"the South is still anti-black"?

These are the Primaries - only Democrats (& sometimes also Independents) can vote in the Democrat Primaries.

Many African-Americans vote Democrat.

Southern states may be..."Southern"...but they also have large African-American populations...populations which Obama is very popular with.

Obama won South Carolina...he is expected to also take Alabama & Georgia...

Strangly I can think of NO disadvantages of space exploration and loads of advantages. This PC I'm using to type a message to you for one.Without the space race our computers would have taken a lot longer to reduce down in size from the size of a whole ground floor to a desktop model. Also without the satellite system(courtesy of space exploration) we would have no TV,no mobile phones and no way to measure and explore the ravages of global warming, hurricanes and other catastrophic disasters.I am so thankful for non stick frying pans.;)

To compare what NASA does with the event of Hiroshima is somewhat ridiculous considering what benefits the whole world has derived from our forays into space.

However this is going wildly off topic so I suggest if you want to discuss this issue that we start another thread.;)

Is America ready for a black president? It could light the touch paper of racial conflict.

Mind you, is America ready for a woman president? Would it be a powerful message, or embarrasing when vising countries where women are treated as second class citizens.

On the name front, Obama just doesn't sound presidential, on a poor line, it could end up sounding like "Osama".

Clinton, on the other hand, has an impeccable presidential pedigree.

Do bet on it, you'd get pretty good odds for a start. He is the only Republican that is electable, the public like him, he is a genuine war hero and he looks like all the other past presidents (old, white, nice suit etc)

and if that ain't enough for you he is just as popular in the polls as Clinton and Obama, according to a radio report I heard not so long ago

Yes, but unfortunately for him, the Evangelicals and NeoCons hate him, and he has been called (by members of his own party) a Liberal, and Ann Coulter said she would rather vote for Hillary than him. It will (imho) rip the Republicans apart (which is a shame, because I think out of all the Republicans, he is probably the best).

One thing about having the first black, and first woman presidential candidates is that their race and gender is being pushed into the background compared to the genuine excitement they seem to be generating.

It's impressive that it is not making much of a difference. So come the general election I don't think the Democratic nominees differences in gender/color will be as important as people would have presumed a few years ago.

With Obama, the states in which it might be harder to elect a black president are most likely to be the center, more republican states anyway. The republicans are really disliked at the moment and pretty much all the democratic states are safe, most of the swing states will go to the Dems imo. California and Florida are likely to vote for a Black/Woman candidate so that will actually help them there..

All presidents will do good and bad things, it's human nature to make mistakes and given the power of the presidency your mistakes are amplifyed. Clinton helped a lot in Ireland, he was ok for the US economy. I think he got a lot of policy passed as well but I am not sure about much of his domestic policy.

That site you linked you, at least that page, is very biased. For example:

Damien being biased about something doesn't make you necessarily wrong does it? I mean the Democrats were biased in favour of Clinton weren't they? Is their take on his presidency any more valid? The quotes are in the article aren't they?

Yes it's human nature to make mistakes but does that make lying about those mistakes OK?

Yes, but the context of the quotes and what they represent are important. You can make amazingly untrue statements without every having to utter a untrue word. You can take a quote out of context, you can add your own content, and you can neglate to mention over important facts.

So no, being biased does not make you wrong, but it does diminish your credibility. So you should always be very wary and distrustful of a biased source of information.

Quote:

Yes it's human nature to make mistakes but does that make lying about those mistakes OK?
No, It's politics however and everything is spun, filtered, and organised for public perception.

Everyone is Washington is throwing mud at each other, and they all are guilty. It's not right but it is not unique to Clinton or any other politician. They all have to play the game to stay in it.

Look at the massive campaign that said the Clintons were responsible for someone’s death. Totally fictitious but it was a useful slur for his political opponents.

John Kerry voted for bills and then against them after the contents of the bill had changed (not uncommon), he admitted it and explained why he longer supported such bills. Yet, The Bush Campaign attacked him for 'flip-flopping' it was one of the most effective negative slurs against Kerry and people believed it, Kerry’s explanation was not given any real media time.

The truth can kill you in politics, the media and the public is too wrapped up in simple right/wrong good/bad issues and the complexities of a issue gets ignored in favour of public moral outage. Telling people you do not have all the answers, that you would like to do something but it’s difficult and complex, and that there is no magic fix for any issue is a sure-fire election loser.

So, you're running for your party's Presidential nomination, and while giving a speech, you happen to say...

Quote:

I remember landing [in Bosnia in 1996] under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.
... only for video news footage to then be shown on TV which actually shows you & your daughter calmly leaving the plane, calmly walking across the tarmac & waving, & then calmly meeting an 8 year old girl.

But hey, so what. You "made a mistake", and it "proves you're human".

Hillary now has 4 hopes. Bob Hope, Antelope, Envelope & No hope. I think Obama will win the democratic nomination. He seems to have a good following and strong backing in quite a few ramining states. I don't think the recent press coverage regarding Hillary has done her any favours at all.
