Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

Thought I'd post for anyone on baguley 6 and having awful latency problems. After complaint and complaint and several tickets on the newsgroups I have now been told that a network upgrade is scheduled for mid march. I am assuming a network upgrade means a new UBR and the dreaded bagu6 resegmented. I don't have the ticket number though (whether that means I have been sold a story or not I don't know!!!)

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

i wouldnt hold your breath for a re segmentation of the UBR !

VM have a nasty habit of promising network upgrades that never seem to come.

Although, i hope in this case i am proved wrong and your service improves :)

and runc4 , tonight is just absolute crap. my upload is faster than my download, and yes i did use speedtest to try it. but the speed on my usenet bears this out.

the fastest i seem to be getting is 500kb. it's been getting steadily worse over the past couple of months, first 18meg and then 12-14meg and recently less than 10meg. but tonight is a new record (not one that i want). will be moving within the next 6-8 weeks and if things don't improve then i'm sad to say (as before the 20 roll-out it was fab) i'll have to consider if i want to take my services with me. as for the money i'm paying i don't feel like i'm getting value for my hard earned money (and working with landfill sites is hard work).

getting speeds this low on the 20mb service is ridiculous. post your downtream and upstream modem info here and someone will take a look at them for you and determine whether it is your modem or something else at fault. go to http://192.168.100.1 and copy and paste downstream and upstream info on here.

yeh looks ok to me similar in comparison to mine, except your 2 up on upstream power level and 3 down on downstream power level in comparison so it isn't your modem. have you looked into downgrading to 2 or 4mb and seeing if you get better speeds on that as the poll that i created a not long ago on here suggested that most people have problems on 20mb and not many people have problems on the lower tiers. see for yourself http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...bout-your.html

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

How do i find out what UBR i'm on? i am in Didsbury and i have the baugley bit in my hostname and i am suffering with an absolutely dreadfull connection. I am on the newsgroups trying to get it resolved but at the moment i'm not getting very far.

Impz2002 10-01-2008 14:13

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

click on the connection link at the top of the forum page. it will show you your hostname.

For instance mine is cpc4-harg1-0-0-cust733.leed.cable.ntl.com which means my UBR is harg1

starbug 10-01-2008 14:24

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

cpc1-with4-0-0-cust***.bagu.cable.ntl.com

Ok so im not on a baugley one im on the withington, cheers!

Impz2002 10-01-2008 14:30

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

your still part of the baugley network but not on a main bagu UBR.

I always thought i was on a baugley UBR i never thought the with4 was actually withington ;)

Hopefully tech support on the newsgroups will have my problem fixed before long....

Just had a phone call from home to say our BB and Cable TV are both not working at the moment. I hope that something is done about Baguley as loss of tv/bb and other problems is a regular thing. :(

Every god dam time someone has to pick up on a spelling mistake.

It was easy to understand what he was saying maybe hes just not that good at spelling u have to think about things like this as the other person may have a good excuse to why they spell things wrong

Just rang them up again, in short the guy said there is over utilisation in your eare and the problem will be fixed within the next 24 - 48 hours!!!

Well simple if not i will be on the phone!!!

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

The best thing you can do is keep checking the status page and check the maintance you getting on the phone is not gonna help as customer services have no contact with the networks team

Will wait until its actually fixed to see how long it out for. Im guessing you work for Virgin Media?

If so do you have any news on when baguley will be fixed? When i rang up last night i was told the problem was due to 'over utilisation' and will be fixed in the next 24-48 hours? Do you know if this is true or are they just having me on?

Many Thanks

:)

As far as I can see no maintance looks booked but I only have access to the status page

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

Is that the status page that we have access too?

Is there no one you can speak to that could confirm the date the guy above got in March?

Desperate times here, browsing the internet is about as much fun as sticking pins in my eyes :(

Hi Starbug,

I got the March figure by suggesting in the Virgin usenet support group that it was an issue of "high utilisation" on the UBR and i asked if there was any planned upgrades. Tech support got back to me and confirmed.
I must stress that you can be told different things each day though. :(

Today, despite posting numerous traceroute logs showing high hops and timeouts/ packet loss to game servers and common sites in a posting yesterday, i was told that there were no known issues. I guess they mean no actual critical issues, not simply over subscribed.

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

OK guys sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the baguley upgrade has been moved to the 18th April. I am furious. Its just ridiculous. I've been waiting for this upgrade for 6 months

NEONKNIGHT 15-03-2008 18:35

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

Whilst its annoying, it is only another four weeks. Waited this long, another few weeks won't make much difference. ;)

jimrobo 15-03-2008 19:00

Re: Baguley 6 UBR upgrade

oh and whats to stop them postponing it again? the date of 18th April is an unconfirmed date.

Its ridiculous and an absolute disgrace. I've decided to document my bad experience in a website and try and get some traffic to it. Maybe Virgin will listen if I put it under theirs for a week or so with adwords. I've been banging on about this upgrade for over 6 months.

I use the internet for one of my income streams and the simple fact is when it works I make money when it doesn't I lose money.
