Half Price Offer Continues

I see from the VM website that as soon as the 31st December half price offer ran out they changed the date to February! I guess not as many people are taking up the offer as they had hoped.

More likely they always intended to extend the date but wanted to get as many in before 08 as possible :)

Or they are getting a good response and it makes sense to continue the flow

Well I'm glad they have continued the offer as I just couldn't make my mind up by New Year's Eve as to whether to go for it or not and in the end decided to wait awhile. I think I will see what kind of picture I get when my new TV eventually comes ;)

I dont have an HD ready TV but took the offer in December and would recommend it just for the recording abilities.

I'm seriously tempted. Trouble is I gather you have to pay up front which means I'd have to get hold of partners card to pay for it or it would end up coming out of my money

No you don't. you have to pay via Card. only in extreme circumstances (and with a manager authorisation) can you have it billed

Sorry...not so..:)..I was offered the option to pay when ordering, or on the next DD...chose the DD and have just paid it...3 weeks after install..No managers discretion involved.

Like the above poster seem here. I have also heard this across various websites.

I'm not saying it isn't done, I'm saying its not supposed to be done. You can't just ask for it. You are more likely to be told no you can't more often than yes

Anyone who does do it without asking for a managers authorisation are breaking the rules of the offer

We are on the VIP package and not only have we got the V+ for £75 (with asking the same person twice to make sure we would not get charged extra because we are on the VIP package) but also with it automatically (as far as Im aware as I never rang up) going straight to the bill. Ive also heard this many times over different forums which seems to suggest that, they are just doing it on the bill.

Infact from the Virgin website in the terms and conditions, it states -

"Payment may be required in advance."

yes but HERE and in internal briefings it states

Customers taking VIP or VIP Complete will only pay Standard Installation (£30). This applies to all additional V+ boxes as well

Then on the page for the V+ pricing changes HERE it says

On a VIP package?
Although, you will still see a £10 charge on your VIP bill, the price you pay for your service won’t change – it’s already fantastic value!
This also applies to additional V+ on a VIP account

Re: Half Price Offer Continues

I'm very tempted but I'm a little suspicious.

What is the reasoning, do you think, behind this undoubtedly good offer.
Are they getting rid of old tech boxes with the view of bringing in new ones in the near future?

I've seen a lot of comments saying the current V+ boxes are based on (relatively) old technology and are not very reliable. Is this just a way of reducing stock?

If a box with better performance is on the horizon then I'll probably hold off on it.

I don't see a new box on the horizon.

Evidence from the US (and Sky) shows that PVRs reduce churn significantly, meaning that while they may be taking a hit on the box/installation the chances of those subscribers then leaving after 12 months is a lot less meaning in the long term it is good business.

Similarly with ITV and Channel 4 launching HD channels relying on ad revenue the fact Virgin Media have a user base out there might mean they absorb some of the costs.

Thanks for your reply jfman.

It certainly makes sense. I might investigate further (need a HDTV first though).

tried to get another v+ box today as i recently got myself a 40 inch sony bravia 1080p tv.

Was fed the line "Due to V+ boxes being so popular, it is limited to 1 per household", why?
i was willing to pay the 150, or 75 quid charge. my samsung box looks terrible on my TV, and the other box isnt mine, my parents use it to record stuff on their standard definition tv. Yet i see here that Virgin are allowing others to have more than 1 V+ box, so whats up with that?

I wasnt arguing about the V+ on VIP, I was just stating that I managed to get it for £75 with no monthly fee.

What I was talking about mainly was how the instalation cost would go on the bill or charged in advanced. Know where to the customer (as far as Im aware) does it say it HAS to be charged in advanced. It just says "Payment may be required in advance."

Are you talking personally or do you mean for the V+? If for the V+ then there is more to the box than the HD side, all though Im guessing you do know this.

Most likely in your area, there is a back log of people wanting the V+ with the offer they have on. Hence, they wont have enough to go around so they have to limit it to 1 per person.

Yes but it can't be done. As I've just posted, with VIP you can only be charged £30 install fee for additional V+ boxes and then it has to increase your bill by £10 per month if it is the second V+

But it has been done, now just have to wait for the bill, But we double checked on the phone at the time and it was done.

Seriously I do hope it does work, but I don't think it will

Can you post how it is shown on your bill when you get it?

Thanks

Wonder if there's any chance of getting a £75 V+ on the Loyalty discount TV:XL, BB:M, Phone:M deal - the old (C&W branded) Pace box ain't gonna last forever.

For a straight £75 upfront, the V+ would certainly be a deal, but if anything is gonna mess with the loyalty deal, then it's not on...

That's one of my concerns too. Don't want them to retract the loyalty deal I'm on now for the sake of a V+ box.

Shawty: you guessed right. I know it's primarily a PVR with HD thrown in.
My HDTV aspirations also involve my Xbox 360 Elite.:)

Tried it & told no go.

I'm on XL TV & BB M phone with £19.50 loyalty discount.

May try retentions as I was never told that accepting the loyalty discount would preclude me from other offers....

I would definately try customer relations, they will agree to do it (Customer Care should have done it as the only excluded product is a bundle that includeds a free second stb)

I've just checked this. The discount code with the VIP pack requires the £10 chargeable V+ code to be on the account otherwise it wont work (you don't get the discount)

The chargable V+ code (the one for £10 per month) and the no rental while on XL V+ code, cannot be put onto the account at the same time otherwise it wont work (ie you cant complete any changes or book an install)

The codes have to match. if you get charge £10 for your first V+ you WILL get charged £10 for the second one, if you get charged nothing for your V+ you will get charged nothing for the second one etc

Additional outlet rental of £5 per box applies no matter that V+ pricing you are on

So anyone who has paid £75 for a V+ on VIP is due £45 back. Anyone who has paid the full £150 is due a refund of £120

Thats weird as I called on the 28th December, and spoke to a nice chap. I asked If I was eligible for the £75 install of a V+ box, he checked my account and even commented that I was on a very good Loyalty Discount (I have XL TV, XL 20MB BB and M Phone with a £29 monthly discount) and he said yup.

I paid for it immediately and it's being installed on the 9th. I even double checked that I wouldn't have an additional monthly fee.

I had no problem ordering a second V+ Box. It may be a regional problem with not enough boxes in certain areas.
