Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Does anybody know how to do it?
I cant do it! :( |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
It's do-able. I've been typing on this one for days.
I choose the wireless network from the wifi settings, enter the passkey, connect and that's it. I use the terminal services client and remote desktop into my main machine. I don't need to, I have a laptop, but this PDA is new (to me) and I'm a geek. :) |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
mine doesnt even have a list of networks to choose from, but it has got the wireless networking in the phone!
---------- Post added at 22:09 ---------- Previous post was at 22:04 ---------- can it connect to access points? |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Yes. I'm connected to my wireless router.
I can use the unit's browser or use the main machine's browser by remote. What PDA is it? Sure you've enabled your WLAN? |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
i have enabled the wlan on my phone, i cant find a network in rage though!
my PC is using wireless now, so there definatly is one! |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Should be able to see it then. This PDA (SPV M5000/XDA EXEC) can currently see 7 wireless points while my laptop sees only 2 or 3.
Have you tried a Google search for "connect [whatever PDA you have] to wireless network" ? Often you'll find forums dedicated to your kind of PDA. |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
My phone was made in hongkong
i cant find anything about it on google ---------- Post added at 22:51 ---------- Previous post was at 22:41 ---------- do you think i should contact microsoft? |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
I'm not sure Microsoft will be able to help you to be truthful!!
A forum dedicated to mobile units will be better. Try www.modaco.com |

ok the make of my Phone is: Holiday
model: Q9 at first i thought it was a copy of the motorola Q9, it isnt though. I also dont have a instruction book and i bought it off eBay from a seller in Hong Kong I really like the phone and the stuff on it, but connecting to the internet is the main reason for having the phone! |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Any pics of it?

Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
That looks like a Blackberry model, I'll have a look see in the morning, been 'ordered' to bed :D :naughty:
|
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Well! Some cosmetics and key positions aside, it certainly 'looks' like a Q9 or at least some weird derivative!
What does settings/system/device information/identity report as it's model number? In any case, looking at the ebay auction photos it's running WM5 same as mine, so can you tell us your procedure in steps for trying to connect to a wireless network and we'll go from there. |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Looks loke some nasty WM clone!
Anyway - try this: http://kb.iu.edu/data/atcn.html#initial Is your router set for DHCP and is the Wi-Fi visible to all devices? |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
On mine, I go into comms manager by highlighting and selecting Vodafone on the home screen. Then settings, WLAN settings (make sure WiFi is on), then choose the first option to view wifi networks, select your SSID had fill out the settings in the wizard.
You get a solid beacon when its connected or a dotted one if its probing. |

All he needs to go is go on the Wi-Fi setting and activate the WLAN / Wi-Fi and then it should pick up the access point.... It's a fairly simple process... :) ---------- Post added at 11:28 ---------- Previous post was at 11:24 ---------- Quote:

Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
So, run us through what you have / should have, If you go to start>settings>connections, do you have a WLAN manager, if so, is it enabled ? If not, what do you have ?
|
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Are you sure this is a real phone? Not one of those dodgy "made to look like" clone things?
|
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
i have no idea, if you have looked at the ebay page, its from hong kong and the make on the box is Holiday.
i dont know weather its a hong kong make or a fake? |

Hey Callumpy - did you get a Nintendo Wii remote for Christmas as well?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-aTfLayXwQ LOL! PS - Is the "phone" really running WM5? Edit - just checked eBay page - ok - looks real enough - so what options do you have under Start / Settings? Edit 2 - Here's the official Microsoft manual - may not be exact but should be a start: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...nnections.mspx |

Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
You know, on that Ebay page, Wifi isn't mentioned as a feature, and the Wireless Manager screen shot shows wifi as off.
My PDA doesn't have wifi, so if I want to use it for wireless internet, I have to connect to my PC via bluetooth and do it that way. I do have a wifi CF card, just don't have Windows Mobile 5 drivers for it. |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Anyway, i pressed the select button and a window popped up saying no WLAN was found, so turn it on or press cancel to quit
Looks like there is no WLAN card in the phone? ---------- Post added at 13:41 ---------- Previous post was at 13:40 ---------- Quote:

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/sear...e=wifi+sd+card
Whole load listed. I might just get a new SD one as they look like they're only around £20 posted and I'm not using my SD slot (the beauty of having a PDA with both SD and CF slots rather than smart phone with only SD). Remember if you currently have a SD card with programs installed, you won't be able to access them when using the WIFI SD card. Hmm, for £25 you can get 54Mbps ones, tempting. Right, bought one, don't tell Faulty or she'll kill me :D |

Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Mmmm, that would suggest that you haven't, as has been said, got the necessary hardware installed. Additional hardware is not my thing, to a popint I have my set up, but beyond that :nono: so I'll let someone else try and steer you...........good luck :tu:

Looks like wifi is a no-no for your device. Tell a lie, just searched on ebay http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/sear...e=mini+sd+wifi http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WiFi-Wireless-...QQcmdZViewItem Yes, you'd have to swap out your 2GB card for it, assuming it will actually work. |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Thanks anyway, bloody phone, i might complain to the seller!
---------- Post added at 14:08 ---------- Previous post was at 14:06 ---------- errrrr, is there any other sort of wireless adapters for phones or only the ones that go into the memory card slot? i might have to get one :( |

Oh dear. Looks like Dragon is right - no Wi-Fi installed (doesn't say it on the auction :( )
SD card is the only way then. Quote:

i might get a mini SD thing, only problem is, i have to remove my storage card!
Unless you can get a wireless adapter with storage on it? |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Try and buy stuff in the UK mate - saves for a lot of heartache when things go wrong in my experience.
I read into using cards as WLAN when I was wanting to use my P910i (for sale by the way.. ;) ) with one - it didn't look difficult, though I never got round to buying one for it. |

You may be able to, but it's not going to be much. My old CF card wifi has 128MB space on it. Are you planning on using wifi around the house or out around town? |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
around the house and if i go to my families houses! Ill have to take bothe the cards with me!
Thank you anyway everybody who has posted in this thread! |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Well if its around your house, you can set up a blue tooth connection to a PC and use that.
|

I could NOT get that to work and is why I bought this SPV. Good luck Callumpy whatever way you go - let us know how you get on. :) |

i use active sync but i never managed to do it via bluetooth
i think i'll buy one of those cards! |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
My experience with SD Wifi cards is not good, the drivers are flaky and they stick out the side of the handset. In the end I ditched my IPAQ and went for one with Wifi inbuilt.

Thanks for that. That'll help. I've been trying to convince my friend not to buy this 2210 someone's trying to 'palm' off on him and buy something with Wi-Fi already enabled, as I know it'll be me that has to help set the damn thing up with a Wi-Fi card. |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
lol, ive just ordered a WiFi card off ebay!
Thanks everyone for your help! |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Well I'm now on my ipaq via blue tooth and it was so easy!
Set a cabled activesync connection up first. Add an incomming BT comm port on your BT enabled PC such as comm 7. In activesync click on File - Connection Settings and tick the 3rd box down and set it to the comm port you set up in BT such as comm 7. In BT manager on the PDA set a new activesync connection, pair the devices if prompted and you're done. ---------- Post added at 15:25 ---------- Previous post was at 15:20 ---------- Quote:
One of these? http://www.lexandro.hu/wp-content/up...7/10/h2210.jpg Do him a favour and tell him to get it! Best ipaq I've ever owned, damn sight faster than my new one, CF and SD slots. If he wants wifi, he can have the SanDisk wifi card I've got upstairs (will have to dig it out). |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
I cant do the add COM port things cause my BlueTooth adapter isnt inside the PC, it uses theBlueSoliel Programme

Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?

Check through the software's settings/configurations for the 11 BT com ports it's set up (according to the BlueSoleil web site). In active sync you could just set it to each com port in turn until your device is able to connect (you'll have to try and connect at each com port). |
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
i know it connects at com7
|
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
Then you should just need to configure activesync to allow connections on com7 and set up a BT activesync connection from your device.
|
Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?
i can connect to activesync now what do i need to do for internet?
