Massive increase in memory card capacities soon?

Researchers have developed cheap, low power technology flash memory that could, within a few years, mean we have USB sticks containing a terabyte of data. Just imagine, your latest MP3/pocket video player could have 3000 films on it.

Sounds great, what happens when it gets corrupt?

How about no backup? So do I need to buy two?

then you will cry!

if you have that much vital data then yeah I would suggest buying two. or backing up to other storage. HD-DVD or Blue-Ray.

Damm rite I would cry, tech is moving soo fast my mom still uses floppy disks, which are becoming so hard to use as PC's stop coming with them standard. Whats after a terabyte anyway?

Re: Massive increase in memory card capacities soon?

a petabyte. then an exabyte, a zettabyte and a yottabyte. (and no, i didn't make that up although it does sound silly!)

as for floppy's, it's good to always have a USB floppy drive handy.

Hah! Whatever the size it will never be big enough for some. ;)

But then as is so often said size doesn't matter..it's what you do with it that counts.;)

a Zettabyte is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes or 1,180,591,620,717,411,303,424 bytes if your proper.

although I heard a rumour that VM were starting to trial a 'up to' 20 yottabyte connection.

I remember showing off my massive 1.2gig Quantum Bigfoot not so many years ago.
I then wondered if I would ever get close to filling the thing!

Today I have 430gig of boot aray and just under 500gig of storage array.

lol, the bigfoots where those 5.25" hdds arent they? I only ever saw one, it was a 12GB I think and at the time we thought we could never fill it. I had 3.2GB at the time and with all my stuff installed etc I could only use about 75%.
