I Am Legend
After reading on another forum about the upcoming Will Smith movie "I Am Legend", I bought the original novel by Richard Matheson.
It's brilliant :tu: Best book I've read in ages. I can only hope that the new movie version does it justice. Trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/iamlegend/ Richard Matheson himself has apparently said it is "First Class!" according to "Total Film". |

Saw the thread title and thought your modesty had overtaken you :p:

I dunno..I reckon Charlton Heston already did this well..I really hate the way Hollywood keeps going back and remaking classics.:(

Re: I Am Legend
I've not seen The Omega Man, but from reading a synopsis, it sounds like it is quite different in places to the original novel.

The Wicker Man: Original :tu:, remake :td: The Hitcher: Original :tu:, remake :td: Halloween: Original :tu:, remake :td: Escape from New York: Original :tu:, upcoming remake most likely a :td: Hellraiser: Original :tu:, upcoming remake most likely a :td: etc. Do get some good remakes though. Thomas Crown Affair was good, & The Ring, IMO. Manchurian Candidate was OK, but not as good as the old Sinatra classic. But the general pattern does tend to be remake = crap. Quote:
Looks good :) |

The lake was also a terrible remake of "il mare" |

Re: I Am Legend
I saw it this afternoon.
Loved it. The Spoiler:
Spoiler:
Very close to the book I thought, apart from some minor changes, plus the more major deviation near the end (& the odd other bits which aren't too important, although would have been nice to have). Still has the feel of it. I thought it was very well done, Will Smith was very good, & the flashbacks were a nice touch too. When the Spoiler:
Still, before that, I had been wondering how exactly they would do the same end as the book, seeing as in the movie you don't see him properly going out Spoiler:
If anything, I'd have like it to be longer, with a bit more of his daytime & night-time activities, & more of the "Dark Seekers". |
Re: I Am Legend
Nothing special.

Re: I Am Legend
your joking Matt, the film as in affect a load of tosh, and you could sum up the whole film in a 10 minute clip, infact you have already seen the best parts of it in the TV clips .
the zombie and his dogs could have been so much more to bring the viewer into the microscopic plotline, VERY POOR IMO.... ---------- Post added at 21:58 ---------- Previous post was at 21:55 ---------- btw bulky it was a she not a he.... the poor zombies were far better i thought. |
Re: I Am Legend
The dog was the best actor in the film. It deserves to get an Oscar.:D

Re: I Am Legend
The original book and the modern film are very different and neither is particularly impressive.
You think the film is very close to the book except a few minor changes? Book: Spoiler:
Film: Spoiler:
I can't think how much more different it could have been, except maybe to exclude vampires and everyone being dead! |
Re: I Am Legend
From what people have said about the book, I think I'll stick with the film's take on the story.
Vampires compared with people with a bad case of the measels? Natural immunity compared with bitten by a vampire bat? Still People? Oh come on. |
Re: I Am Legend
I watched the movie the other night and thought it was pretty good, one of the best ones I've seen this year.

Who cares what colour he is, what car he drives, & what kind of music he listens to? Minor, minor stuff. Irrelevant. Making him USAMRIID Doctor is a change, but a good one. Makes more sense than him becoming an expert on virology & anatomy etc. simply by reading library books. The only major change, as I said, was the ending. Spoiler:
Big change, yes, & a bit too Hollywood with the very ending. But I think it still worked well. Spoiler:
The overall feel though is the same, the main thrust of the film is the same, with Neville on his own, having to survive, trying not to go mad, trying to cope, investigating the disease. |
Re: I Am Legend
Film scared the heck out of my wife, it was good just to watch her jump out of the chair :)

Re: I Am Legend
I really enjoyed it - thought it was quite tense all the way through, and while the ending was a bit Hollywoodish, at least it wasn't to wishy-washy.

Re: I Am Legend
There is a leak alternative ending circling, I suggest you find one before warner brothers removes them all.

Re: I Am Legend
The even more happy happy-ending?
It's gonna be on the DVD & BD release, AFAIK (alternate ending). |
Re: I Am Legend
There is not one on the R1 single disc version you have to buy the 2 disc special that has the ending and a different version. Same is true with the R2 however there is no mention of the alternative ending although the different version is mentioned so Id gather its on the R2 2 disc special

Re: I Am Legend
Well I've just got the audio book (having not read it before - in print either I mean).
It's going to be a long time since I've seen the film before I've read the book. Hopefully it won't spoil the film too much :) |

Re: I Am Legend
For some reason this film escaped me until today (which is freaky as the last post was exactly a year ago today in this thread). I think it was really good, if not a little scary for daytime viewing. The dog was cool, apart from when he had to kill it - proper made me cry :erm:
