bethere.co.uk?
As a very long term customer of telewest/VM, I am thinking about leaving as there absolutly ****e at the moment and has no interest in helping or making things better, I was wondering has anyone got any info about this ISP :- https://www.bethere.co.uk/ . As this seems to look ok IMO.

Re: bethere.co.uk???
They're generally regarded as very fast and stable, and also very reliable, but this all depends on how close to the exchange you are. If you're within 2 miles then you have a good chance of some good speed. Until you have your line tested however there is no telling what speed you will get.

Re: bethere.co.uk???
And how does one test their line? (BT)
|
Re: bethere.co.uk???
don't leave virgin i think they are the best i was with telewest untill virgin took over but i'm still not going to leave and i would never get sky
|
Re: bethere.co.uk???
I agree, The merging of the brilliant Telewest and NTHell has been abit rough but things can only get better! We just need to help virgin media get rid of their debt so they can spend money on improving services and expanding the network etc
|
Re: bethere.co.uk???
I've had no real problems with Be. The only thing I find slightly irratating is they don't accept direct debits, so you have to pay by card. They take the amount once a month, so in that respect it is the same as a DD, but you get no DD guarantee.
On the plus side, they are fast (speed and service wise), and do email and text you if they do anything to your account or service. So, they do go out of their way to keep in touch. Unlike Virgin. |
Re: bethere.co.uk???
Hi,
I did have a be* ADSL connection and they were brilliant. Unfortunately I have a poo BT line and so never got speed above 4mb, but that was not the fault of be*. When first connected with them I was dissapointed with my connection speed and so called their support, the main point I can pass on regarding their support is that it is fantastic. They are based in Bulgaria but are 4000 times better than the VM Indian support. They actually understand what you are talking about, don't just read from scripts and actively go out of their way to help you and keep you updated. When I called them about my speed issues, they started running tests on my line, called me back exactly (to the minute) when they said they would, gave me the full technical details of the results and could actually share a joke. (On the back of one joke I ended up sending one of their support team a bottle of red wine (which cost a fortune in postage!), and received a thank-you card 2 weeks later) They had no problems calling me on my mobile, and even told me what to say to BT to get them to examine my line more closely. As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan ! I unfortunately ended up leaving due to my poor BT line, but have a friend who I recommended them to who consistantly gets 22Mb with no STM, caps etc and the connection has not slowed or glitched once in the 8 months he has been with them. Re: bethere.co.uk???
Actual, when I joined, they notified me that BT had stopped the order, but Be couldn't tell me why (Data Protection). They did, however, tell me what to ask BT, and, as it turned out, despite Engineers having installed new master sockets on at least two occasions, it turned out that BT's system was cancelling the order as they had me down has not having sockets.
OK, I had to phone BT a total of three times to find that out and get it corrected, but Be did as much as they could to help. |

Re: bethere.co.uk???
I am leaving vm for be as well, not about the money but about the bloody traffic shaping, and ever since vm took over telewest, the disconnection started like everyday in the early morning hours...cant take it any more,
will have to change vm phone line back to bt too. just found a link to check how far away from local BT exchange, just about 1.05 KM, sounds good enough to get a BE BB. http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php |

if they don't hurry up and improve their service they won't have any customers to get rid of their debt. this is an article from may claiming virgin media has lost nearly 50,000 customers. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle1769479.ece i wonder what the figure is now. |

Yeah sure most of them customers that have left was because of the SKY battle, but it would be really interesting to see how many customers have left because of their rubbish broadband (speed issues, STM, other issues etc...) But no, I bet VM wouldnt admit THAT, it would have to be OTHER stuff, like blaming sky!! |

Re: bethere.co.uk???
I'm going to be phoning up on Monday morning to pay the £50 deposit and get the engineer to hook my line up then phone Be and get me hooked up. I have the 20meg but I don't agree with the STM as my 10meg line was more enjoyable for when I needed it and I hardly hammer my line on Newsgroups as who can be bothered burning DVD's all the time.
I can get 24meg and a phone line for slightly cheaper than I pay for my 20meg alone. I also have the 24/7 free calls but I never use it and for £12.50 a month I get free evening and weekend calls and that's only £2 a month as it's £10.50 for the line rental :D. It's mainly for the gaming side of it for the ping problems I'm having that VM are refusing to help me out and I gave them one chance. I'm not asking again for a service I pay for so it's their loss ;). Also the peace of mind to use my newsgroups at any time will be a bonus even though it's rarely used. Also check the distance from my house to the exchange ;). http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9...etotheejz5.jpg I've been having problems with my internet for gaming in some UK and NL servers and a call to India was useless as since I could connect to google meant that my line was in perfect order. I just agreed to get him off the line before I lost the plot. I had asked him to send out an engineer to see if that would help and he just totally blanked me, I asked again and that's when he told me that if google was working then there wasn't a need for an engineer. GRRRRRRR. http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1...newrongvn5.jpg As you see from this picture - Half of the servers get effected and others don't. This never happened before the upgrade and it happens all the time and everyday. Mostly in the middle of a game :(. All the {FP} servers are usually 20 - 50 ping max but usually in the 20 - 30 zone. It lasts up to an hour sometimes :td:. |
Re: bethere.co.uk???
As this is about Be and not VM, I have moved it to the "Other ISP Discussion forum"...
|
Re: bethere.co.uk???
I have had BE* unlimited for the last month. Previously I had the VM 20 meg cable BB service (actual top speed of 16 meg).
With the BE* line I get 12-14 meg d/l and 1.2 meg u/l. Even though the d/l is slower, browsing is a heck of a lot faster with BE* and my gaming ping has halved (to about 20ms)! I am very happy with BE*, their customer service is excellent, as is their tech support. :tu: |

Working exceptionally well! :)

Re: bethere.co.uk???
Im on Bethere to
Its Very good |
Re: bethere.co.uk???
I like being on Be. The speed fluctuates between 1.8 MBps and 2.2 (normally hovering nearer the 1.8), but that could be line quality as much as anything, so I am happy. Also, when I have had problems (caused by BT BTW), Be were quick in sorting them out where they could, and helpful to me where I needed to intervene (basically, they told me what I needed to say to BT to get them to fix it).
The only slight problem is that Speedtouch modem/router they supply isn't very good at dealing with wireless inteference, so tends to give slow wireless speeds. No problem for me though. I just shut down the wireless connection, and fired up my old Linksys wrt54G, which copes well. |
Re: bethere.co.uk???
I find the wireless to be great for browsing but I use my PC (ethernet) connection for gaming and d/l's.

Re: bethere.co.uk???
I too have just dumped VM and am waiting for BT to hook me up so I can get Bethere.
Gonna start on the 8 meg and see what that's like. All I want is a stable gaming connection, so whether its 2, 3 4 or 20 meg wont make a huge difference for my needs. VMs 20 meg, which I did have was unusable, as pings and latency were up and down, most afternoon and evenings download speeds were under 1 meg and gaming was impossible. I would rather a lower top end download speed but a more stable connection than an insanely fast, but impractical and flaky, 20 meg service that I have unfortunately had to live with for a year. I m hoping Bethere will solve my dilemna - am 870 metres (straight line) from the exchange - Should that be OK?? |

I am 708 meter's from the exchange,i would be happy, but bethere is not in my area,so i guess i will have to suffer with the strangle hold of VM.

You should see 20mb, or very close. |

Do I really HAVE to be a BT phone customer to get broadband from anywhere else but VM? I don't want to go back to BT as a phone customer - is it the only option?

Yes, unless you choose satellite broadband.

Re: bethere.co.uk?
Well, step 1 faltered slightly when BT didn't turn up yesterday....
Number couldn't be ported so they cancelled the installation without telling me. Hour on the phone and finally got BT to sort out another date. Been given my number though, so will try to book Be before the BT line is installed, as Virgin disco and collection of equipment is on 25th. May have a couple of days downtime I think. Hey ho...... |
Re: bethere.co.uk?
Can anyone help with some info for me ...................... VM has gone slow and slower.....i have given them chances after chances, but i cannot take i anymore. I have spent hours upon hours with tech help (i did get my money back)then to customer services, the list is so long i dont want to bore you with it, I have a contract with them now i am on and have been on the highest connection since i could get cable. I have now a lifetime contract i pay for 2mb connection but get the 20mb one.
But having said all this i still am not happy.......I have checked that my exchange has adsl max and "be" is enabled could someone tell me (i am 0.8km away) does this mean i should get around 18mb adsl ? and if anyone on Be could confirm this as i am unsure as VM told me all i would get is 8mb and this would give me 6mb |
Re: bethere.co.uk?
I am currently going through exactly the same as you and am in the process of getting Be in via a BT line. I am also 0.87 km from the exchange so as soon as I am sorted out I will let you know.
Way i view it is that it could not be any worse than VM so any stability and speed that I gain from a flaky (20meg) 1 meg speed is going to be a bonus. I should have a better idea in the next couple of weeks. |
Re: bethere.co.uk?
Quote:
If you are that near to the exchange, you should certainly get more than 10 meg from Be, and I'd be surprised if you didn't get at least 18. |
Re: bethere.co.uk?
Many thanks for the help...i have always paid top money for what i feel is exclusive rights, money is not an issue. but what gets me blazing is when i pay top dollar for this and get bottom service.....i look forward to your post Copperjack.
Thanks again |

Give VM credit though (well at least the engineer "paul" he posts on here somewhere-thanks for your advise Paul (username not supplied) :-). He explained that my Street box needs a re-sync of the MBR as the Node is max-ed out-but this will not take place until Nov 21st. Not sure if I could wait that long as my speed now is very SLooooooowwwwwwwwwww (49MB in 45 min to d/l). "She can't take anymore cap'n" VM did extend my grace period to december to see if the issue got resolved, if not, then I could cancel with any penalty but as I'm in the 30 day sign up period I can get all my money back if I jump ship now - which is a good thing cos BT want a fortune to install a new line that hopefully, gives me some nice copper cable for BE Unlimited-I'm 793m from exchange. Role on next Thursday for the line and BE sometime after that. I have heard and read some good comments on BE - check the Reviews. |
Re: bethere.co.uk?
where abouts are you i know the preston exchange is max'd out i have just come of the phone and they told me for 3 days they have had tech faults on the preston exchange. fro the last tech call i was told there are people still downloading inside the fair usage times and they have put the whole exchange on reduced limits..........hes advice was to download as much as you can, why i asked he said if you all did it they would have to upgrade the exchange, but at the moment no one is getting dropped, so we are not high on the list for upgrades............Its like make or break it theory..........i will give it one last week and them i will download every minute of the day till it breaks........its the only option i have left........and the stuff i get it will go straight in the recycle bin........

Next day another text that line activation would be on Friday morning ( three and a half days!). next day, another text stating that Bebox had been dispatched. That arrived Thursday morning (two and a bit days after order). Was away with worki until Fri afternoon, set it up this morning and hey presto!!. Nice little Speedtouch wireless router, although I'm ethernet connected. Speed down is apparently 18 meg solid and stable, upload 1100 kbps, although this may apparently change up or down as the line settles in over the next few days, so we'll see. The main difference is that its a revelation - I can now open a web page or view youtube instantly - no delays or slowly revealing pages as per VM 20 meg. Been up and running 2 hours now and it's like I have a new computer. So far, so very good - long may it continue. BT engineer told me when he came that I am 870 m straight line from the exchange, and 1.4 km real distance if that helps any one. If speeds change I will let you know.I haven't tinkered with anything yet but if it ain't broke, I'm not going to try to fix it. This is exactly what I have been missing all these years with VM, a solid, reliable and stable connection. Thoroughly recommended so far. |

Re: bethere.co.uk?
Copperfaced Jack ............... Thanks bud thats just the kind of info i needed. I will BE there soon, I complained so much to VM i now dont pay anything till they get my slow speed sortted, the trouble is the wife heard this and said what we wait a few mins for a web page to load up, but it's free why are you complaining, they will sort it wont they!!! LMAO nope i dont think so...........So i have throttled her in the router to 33k LOL, I bet she doesn't last the week. So after saying all that, i have to give the misse's a week more and i'm off too....and the wifey won't know, BLOODY HELL I'M TURNNING INTO VM
Cheers again for the heads up on BE |
Re: bethere.co.uk?
Sorry if this is a silly question, but is there any way to find out how far you are from your nearest exchange without the help of an engineer? I'm considering getting BE also and I'd like to know whether I'm close enough that I'd get a decent connection.
Cheers guys, KsE |
