New iPods

According to The Times online a new range of iPods are due to be unveiled tomorrow including the "much anticipated" touch screen ipods.

Should be worth a gander, especially as my parents are just about to fly out to the states...

If its only being announced tomorrow, its unlikely to be on sale in the next few weeks

Not really, previous announcements have been timed to coincide with the launch of the products in shops and on the apple web site.

Stuart 04-09-2007 13:37

Re: New iPods tomorrow - Rumor!

True. In terms of hardware, Apple don't tend to announce anything until they are ready for launch.

rumoured as well is Digital Radio on the Ipods....wouldnt mind seeing that...also a Nano with Video functionality :D

Apple why do you do this to me ... too many nice gadgets and no money :(

Looks like new nanos with cover flow are expected.

Product announcements in advance of their actual availability are very rare in the world of Apple - if they do announce this tomorrow, brief your parents as to the whereabouts of the nearest Apple store to their holiday apartment. :D

We could also see the release of the Beatles on iTunes tommorow.

Not least by Paul McCartney (but he didn't specify dates).

It's just the last few weeks have seen Ringo Star and Lennon added to the store, and, in the press release for this event, they had the tag line 'The Beat goes on'. Which were the last words from the last press release from the Beatles.

Could be a coincidence but it seems to be likely now is the time...

Absolutely, especially as my 30gig 4G model is filled to breaking point and i was thinking about a new one whilst they were out there anyway.

IF this is the case and, please let it be so, IF it has digital radio, its a god damn certainty.

Hmmm, I ordered a new Macbook last week and since then it's not sitting at a processing stage. I wonder if they are getting something done to them as well and they've delayed the order till the announcement

*Crosses fingers and hopes*

Athough it is a mock-up, Gizmodo do have good sources at Apple (Steve Jobs reads the blog)

I ordered my new macbook yesterday :) It's just sitting there but it takes 4 days to take I guess...I not sure what stages it's meant to go though.

I be very surprised if they updated computers at this event though, it a iPod event.

Just thinking on we are due a press release on the UK iphone in time for Christmas and they have summoned UK journos to BBC London to watch the event live (which should be 5pm UK time). If it is from the BBC offices perhaps it will have some coverage on news 24.

Yes, The iPhone should have a date today

I would have held off ordering till next month as the latest version of OS X will be released next month.

I was going to order the new iMac but decided to hold off for the updated OS.

They will almost certainly allow you to get an upgrade CD for the cost of p&p, provided you can produce a receipt and one of the Apple software coupons you will find inside the box.

US digital radio is not the same as digital DAB radio in the rest of the world (bit like 3G) so don't expect the radio to work in the UK/europe.

I already got an xda mini2s and I had an xda 2 before that. Neither have truly floated my boat. This xda mini is pretty buggy and seems to eat flash cards.

The new iPod classic looks good. Same as usual just with the slightly better interface, lighter, smaller, and better battery life.

I really like the look of the iPod Touch, even though the storage capacity isn't as big as I had hoped. Its really just the iphone with some bits taken out though.

That's to do with the limitations of Flash memory.

The touch looks nice one the surface, but then its still laden down with all the usual Apple restrictions, which is a shame.

When its cracked open a bit, allows divx, mp3 , allows homebrew and divorced from itunes, then i'll jump for it. Until then i'll just ogle Archos enviably.

Damien 06-09-2007 14:55

Re: New iPods tomorrow - Rumor!

Yeah, The lack of space in the touch is a big drawback. If i got one I would need to go for the high end one since I have more than 8GB of stuff.

The best release yesterday was the cheaper and improved classic iPod imo.

Why is it that I can't seem to order a touch for quick delivery from apple?

Have they actually BEEN released yet?

I want an ipod with the biggest screen possible and that does seem to fit the bill.

Stephen 01-10-2007 17:03

Re: New iPods

The Touch ipod has been released, however they seem to be in high demand.

The quickest way to get hold of one would be to get along to an Apple store and pick one up, if you don't want to wait for it to get shipped from China.

My new iMac left Shanghai on sat and I have been told that delivery will be around the 15th Oct.

How can it take that long to get from China to the UK???

Quite a while if there is a national holiday in China ;)

Re: New iPods

Bought a new 8GB nano last week - has a nice weight and feel to it despite it's diminutive size but I'm not so sure the two halves would stay together if it were accidentally (or otherwise ;)) dropped from any distance onto a hard surface.

I bought mine for running outside and the gym but unfortunately the Apple armband is a total waste of space... eagerly awaiting a decent third party one.

They air freight but that first requires it gets to a plane.

Re: New iPods

I just got hold of an 80Gb classic for my dad and he asked me to put some tunes on it. Now i have a 30GB Ipod Photo and i was doing a bit of sound comparison between the two.

So same file on both Ipods and the Classic sounds a LOT better on equal volume to the Photo, and by better i mean it has a deeper bass and its a lot clearer.

Now im thinking i could really do with one of these.

If only i had the cash :D

Damien 11-10-2007 13:02

I am getting a 80gig Classic soon :D. I get £85 off since I am a student and got a new mac recently.

But I won't be getting one until they have more capacity.

Really, why?

This question is coming from someone who has a 40Gb classic and finds the UI an pain in the proverbial as with 9000 songs, 2400 artists, 750 albums it can get tough to find things. The 1Gb on my phone is perfectly adequate for commuting as is the 1Gb (or is that 512) on my shuffle.

8Gb will give you enough music for 2000 tracks? At 4 minutes each that is 133 hours or 5+ days continuous listening, enough for all but the round the world trip, and even then you could probably make do.

I remember the days when you went out with a walkman and maybe another tape, two C90s, a whole 180 mins of music. Woah.

I have a 30gb Ipod photo that is full to the brim with my own music.
I can easily navigate round as i organise everything via playlists as Album Name - Album Title.

Ideally i would like the extra space to use a higher bit rate and put on the rest of my stuff.

16GB is nowhere near enough.

I suspect TBR, like myself, likes to have access to as much of his music collection as possible, and at reasonable quality.

I realise I am never likely to listen to all the songs on my ipod, but I like being able to pick and choose from all of my music.

I had the same attitude, hence buying the 40Gb 3G iPod back at Christmas 2005, I guess my attitude has changed. Perhaps the touch interface would make searching better.
