Re: Paramount & Dreamworks to drop Blu-ray & go HD DVD exclusive
So what does this mean for the ordinary punter?Won't most people wait and see which format has wiped the floor with the other before committing themselves?

Re: Paramount & Dreamworks to drop Blu-ray & go HD DVD exclusive
The rate they are going, they deserve a 3rd format to come along and wipe the floor with them, maybe using the conventional DVD process with a new codec, since MPEG2 is far from the be all and end all of codecs.

This is exactly why I don't think either Hi Def format will succeed.

At this rate the wait we face until we get to install a chip in the head and operate all media by brain power alone seems to be a very long way off. Though it has to be said that sometimes what goes on inside my head is far more entertaining than much of the crap currently on offer.;) |

Some fall-out from this...
It's allegedly annoyed Michael Bay so much that he's refused to make Transformers 2  http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/21/m...-blu-ray-no-t/ |

Although it wasn't a factor at the time of the format war, I believe Betamax tapes later proved difficult to get stereo sound onto, so it could be argued in the end that the better format really did win, if you take better to be a measure of all the factors, such as recording length, picture quality and sound quality.

So any consumers with any sense won't be rushing out to buy the hardware just yet and we are at the start of the conflict not the end..Let me know when something REALLY significant happens...
By the way just how long do you think it will take before the dust truly settles? |

Re: Could this spell the end for Blu Ray
The thing that got me on this was the fact that Microsoft paid Paramount around 150 million dollars to release on HD only. Anything to **** on Sony!

Re: Could this spell the end for Blu Ray
