ATMT HD363N Help?
Errrrrr... hello
I was wondering if anyone could help me with my HD363N Network Drive By ATMT. The drive is connected to my D-Link DSL-G624T Wireless ADSL router via Ehternet. Ive had it a mont or two now and it has been working perfectly, but... now it isnt. Seems it is a network drive, you have to map it into my computer. Ive done that and to configure the drive you need to go to its IP adress in your web browser (I fixed the IP adress). IT WONT WORK, also i cannot get into the drive via my computer. I have even tried goin to http://storage/ ... that dosnt work. What shall i do? :erm: |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Is the IP address of the drive in the same subnet as that of your computer?
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
how do i find out?
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
You say you have 'fixed' the IP address of the drive. What have you set it to, and have you also given your PC a fixed IP address? If not, your PC will be getting an IP address (such as 192.168.x.x) from the router. If the IP address of the drive is not in the same 192.168.x.x range (e.g. PC - 192.168.2.2, drive 192.168.2.3), the two will not be able to communicate.

Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
ok, i think my PC is 1.3, and the drive is 1.2. Does it need to obtain it itself. if so how can i change it, because i cannot acess the configureation page. If i need to get to that page, will i need to change my PC's IP adress to the same as the drives IP

Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Well if your PC is 192.168.1.3 and the drive is 192.168.1.2, you should be able to get to the config page. However, if your PC were (say) 192.168.1.3, and you'd set the drive to (say) 10.0.0.1, you'd have to change your PC's IP to something like 10.0.0.2 to access the drive's config page. You could then set the drive back to DHCP ('Obtain address automatically'), the change your PC back. Both the drive and PC would then obtain an address from the router.
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
yes but the PC is 192.168.1.2 and so is the HDD, omg!
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
In that case, change your PC's IP address to 192.168.1.3, go the the drive's config page and change back to DHCP ('obtain address automatically'), then change the PC back to DHCP.

Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
how do i change it?

Why not just use DHCP? |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
what? please tell me how do do it?
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
What Operating System? If it is XP, go the Control Panel, Network Connections. Righ-click on the 'Local Area Connection' and select 'Properties'. In the 'This connection uses the following items' list, select 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' and click 'Properties'. You'll probably find that 'Obtain an IP address automatically' is selected. Select 'Use the following IP address' instead, and enter the address as 192.168.1.3 Enter the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 You should then be able to get the the drive config page. Set the drive back to 'obtain address automatically', then change the PC setting back.

Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Still dosnt work!!!! ive got a bad headache, its driving me insane
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Full list of the devices on the network and their IPs please. :)
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Desktop PC: 192.168.1.2, sometimes: 192.168.1.3
Laptop PC: 192.168.1.4, sometimes: 192.168.1.3 them two are always different D-Link Wireless Router: 192.168.1.1 (never changes) Network Drive: (THE THING THAT DOSNT WORK) 192.168.1.2 (i fixed the IP) |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Maybe that's why my suggestion didn't work - try again, setting the PC to 192.168.1.10 - that'll make sure it doesn't conflict with the other PC.
Oh - and switch the 'other' PC off (or disconnect from the network) while you are doing it. |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
it was off, lol, ill try it again
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
When you fixed the IP address of the drive, did you also set the 'subnet mask'. If so, what to?

I can see why you might want to keep them static but if you use DHCP on the router to automatically assign your IPs, and whack the lease time up, they will be. On my WRT54GL you can set the lease range so you could feasibly set DHCP to allocate the PCs 192.168.1.3 -> leaving 1.2 outside the range of IPs in the pool for the NAS. It's in the right subnet so I suspect it can't get online because of an IP conflict. Keep it simple and keep one of the PCs off, then before you bother with DHCP then go into the properties of the PC connection and set it to something way-out like 1.9, then power cycle it all, and then turn it on in this order - router then NAS then PC, then try and connect or ping the NAS using a command line. Then you can statically assign the PC to the next one up from the NAS or whatever you want to do. Personally, I DHCP the lot. But then, six PCs, 2 PSPs and a PDA would make static IPs slightly more of a pain. |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Just hoping he's not set the subnet mask on the drive to 255.255.255.255 !
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
errrrrrr... so do i. ive tried it again and its done fuc* all. Looks like its bollo*ksed
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Only thing I can suggest is contact the manufacturer (or try Google) and see if there is a way of resetting to factory settings (can't see any way in the manual).
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
i have already put DCHP on my router, ive also tried the manufacturer, but its ATMT, wich is a small group, and they donthave enough people to answer the phone. I have also emailed them a few times. but... no reply
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Any idea what you set the submask to when you setup the drive?
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Just a thought... It's not fallen back to APIPA has it? 169.254.0.1
---------- Post added at 21:29 ---------- Previous post was at 21:28 ---------- There surely has to be a way to reset the NAS without needing to go into the web page. That defies logic, like saying you can only reinstall Windows from the Start menu. On second thoughts - tried opening it? There might well be a jumper or something inside. |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
He said he'd 'fixed' the IP, but if not, AND he's disconnected the router, that's quite possible - worth trying setting the PC to (say) 169.254.0.10 and trying to connect to the drive on 169.254.0.1
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
oh god, youre confusing me now. basicly i dindnt touch the subnet, i left it at 255.255.255.0. i fixed the IP to: 192.168.1.2. The instructions and evrything says if this happents go to http://storage and it will find the HDD on your network. It dosnt work!!!!
Is there another way |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
That should be OK then, so, given my suggestion didn't work, I'm a bit stumped. Maybe some else can come up with something?
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
Dont know! Its a bit gay now. When i bought the HDD i was so impressed and now im really ****ed off. LOL, thanx for tryin! (:tu:)
|
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
No problem. If you do sort it out, let us know the outcome. We've got one of these (or similar) at work, so it would be nice to know how to recover if someone changes the IP and forgets what to!

Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
A twenty-ninth thought: Does the router have a client list? I know ours does.
The http://storage/ thing only works on a rDNS basis anyway. |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
The http://storage thing used to work. LOL. but now nothing does, ive even added the Drive to my client list. but before i added it i noticed that it was picking up two clients (Should have only been 1). One of them was 192.168.1.2 and the other one was 1.3. They both had the same HostName. Im really confused!

Do consider DHCP though. You might want to exclude the NAS though, mind you, the storage link should work. Try nslookup on it, or even pinging the IP you believe it's on, to check it's online, maybe look at the list of devices attached to the network. Can you open the NAS and post pics? |
Re: ATMT HD363N Help?
It dosnt matter anymore!!!! Thank god. Ive fixed it! After all this time all i had to do was turn it off then hold the on button down for 30secs!!! that resets the IP's. Anyway, Thank You Verry Much!!!!

The reason for this is that your PC is configured to obtain IP address from the DHCP server. If you have already have a DHCP server on your network it is advised to switch the DHCP server off on the network HDD 363N as this will solve IP configuration errors. The 363N Network HDD by default has the DHCP server enabled and allocates an IP address range from 169.254.x.x. http://www.atmt.co.uk/faq_answers.htm |
