Intermitten issue

Hi,
In the last couple of weeks, my internet has been working horribly. It keeps disconnecting after every 30 minutes, sometimes after 5 minutes. Is there anyone can help me to solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi what type of modem do you have and what are the levels to the modem .Find out by gong to 192.168.100.1 password root .This will only work with the ambit modems :)

Re: Intermitten issue

A bit rusty on this modem but there is a section i think its signal levels this should give the upstream and downstream .At a guess it could be the modem if the levels are ok :) Do you have cable tv ? and if you do ,do you have a samung box or v+ box if the bb goes down does the light on the samsung flash or the online light on the v+ go out ?:)

I have a samsung box but it is in my flatmate's room, I can not check it now. Is there any relation between the modem and the box??

Re: Intermitten issue

192.168.100.1/gscan.htm (if htm doesnt work try asp)
check the starting frequency

if its anything other then 331000000 then delete whats in there and put it in

then click the button to restart your modem

then reboot pc and modem.

(you'll need to remove any routers ur using before u can get onto that site)

let me know how u get on :tu:

what happens with the lights and how do you get the conn back

when the connection is off, online light is off too, send and receive light is blinging, after a while they are automatically on.

Re: Intermitten issue

modem will be rebooting itself

possibly due to thos power levels spiking way out of range when connection drops

do as vm tech says and check those levels when your off

if downstream power is going out of the range -12 to 12 or upstream out of range 29 to 56 (more looking for way out than just outide) then thats what dropping ur conn.

how long does the conn normally stay down for?

let us no when you get those results with the connection off :tu:

Re: Intermitten issue

Hi,
I am new on this forum and only found it because I am having similar problems. I have been with NTL for a long time and have a Terayon modem with 4 vertically placed LEDs on the front. Frequently the CABLE LED turns of and the modem starts establishing the connection again. Clearly there i sno internet connection then. But even if the cable connection seems to be up, I still have frequent problems with webpages. It looks like it downloads a quick burst of bytes and then it stops for a while. When downloading files it always goes in waves, where the bottom of the wave is 0 kbs for a couple of minutes.
Traceroute usually works but can sometiumes not resolve the www address. While not being able to get webpages often I can still ping or traceroute websites. I have got my DNS from the router but changing to 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100 makes no difference at all.
I cannot get into the modem to see diagnostics, I have tried the DIOCSIS tool available from Robin ?? and can't get it to work either. This is all with the router bypassed and the firewall down.

I am basically out of ideas and don't trust the modem whatsoever. Any ideas how to progress. BTW the Samsung digibox is usually OK apart from a rare (overheat) crash.

Re: Intermitten issue

:welcome: to the forum hoef,
It sounds like you need your modem replacing, terayons have known problems with the QAM256 modulation that VM are using.
Ring tech support.

Re: Intermitten issue

I have the same problem with my Terayon TJ210. After reading this thread yesterday afternoon (thanks for the info), i called tech support, and once i explained my issues and told him which modem i had, and the guy ordered me a new modem, which should arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday through the post. I just hope setting it up is as easy. Is it more or less just a case of plugging it in, or will i need to re-register and not? :)

as far as I know you will need the new modem's MAC address registered against your account, I seem to recall this can be done over the phone - presumably full instructions come with the modem :)

Re: Intermitten issue

Yeah, my new modem arrived yesterday, while i was at work, so i had to collect it today from the post office. Got home about 30 mins ago, unpacked it, connected it all up, and gave technical support a call on the number given on the accompanying letter, to register the MAC address, only to be told i wouldn't be able to register my MAC address until Saturday morning, because of some database issue they are having. :bigcry:

Re: Intermitten issue

Yes, Unfortunately ex-ntl areas are in the process of having the billing systems upgraded, so everything from changing package to BB registration is unavailable

Barton71 03-10-2007 18:54

Re: Intermitten issue

This is strange. After being told i couldn't register my new modem, i plugged the old one back in, and it was still sluggish (as i expected it would be). So i decided to uninstall some programmes i don't use on my PC. One inperticular, called Hamatchi, which i installed a few weeks ago, to play Rome: Total War. After removing Hamatchi, my connection seems to have returned to normal. No browsing issues, instant messengers are working fine, and i even downloaded a small file, with no problems. Now i feel like a bit of a burst ****.
