how major a problem is virgin's VOD?
I have constantly had problems with the VOD service-
the service only works a small fraction of the time, and generally doesn;t work when i want to use it- mostly evenings! i have called and had many engineers out, and they still do not know what the problem is. Is this a problem for everybody and virgin are playing it down when it should be a major concern. i have noticed a few people complaining on here and would like to see whether it is affecting most customers. IF HAVING PROBLEMS IT MAY HELP TO LIST AREA! I'm in the Plymouth area- and my virgin services are appaling! red button, VOD, Telextext and all interactive options are a waste of time! |

Judging by the results soo far, I would be inclined to agree with Bill and say it sounds like Local Area issues.
Im in Herts and my VOD works fine, in fact it has never gone wrong since they introduced it. /me crosses his fingers |

Its sometimes slow, but it always delivers for me.
Great selling point, and your not going to get it from anywhereelse (Sky etc) so as an added FREE extra, I dont see why it needs anything doing to it. |

mine has not been working for months, but I just put it down to being on basic basics due to not having paid the bill for ages. :blush: However, I have recently paid the bill, first thing to come back on was skysports (!), still waiting for everything else ro come back on, and requested skysports removal, lol. :rolleyes:

Mine hardly ever works - Error 1068 the majority of the time. I think it's worse on the V+ for some reason. Shame as I would make use of it but as it is.... I don't bother with it.

Works most of the time on The Wirral (occasionally duff on my old STB, but new Samsung STB is near perfect).

Only (try to) use Catch-up TV (is that different to VOD?) Works sometimes but is absolute useless every weekend. Fridays and Saturdays programmes are mostly missing and what is on the menus will not play. Sometimes even the menus cannot be viewed. Customer services say there is an issue open since 23 Jun about this and 'engineers are working on it'. The service is not provided by Virgin, but by an outside company so thay cannot get any information. Vote - yes there is a major problem. -- Dave. |

In Warrington it sometimes takes several attempts to get it to work, or trying different routes (instead of selecting drama selecting a-z works, sometimes paging doesn't work, but scrolling to the bottom of the list and then down again does).
I've just put this down to one of those things - technology never works properly all the time. I work with web sites where code gremlins come in overnight and change things :) |

I'm in lincoln which goes under nottingham I think. Samsung box which I got when the update killed my Pace.
Anyway, its terrible and has been for months. I keep getting a 'temp unavailable ring 151 quote 1081' message, I have to just keep hitting ok until (sometimes) it lets me through to the next menu then I have to hit ok constantly again to get to the next menu. The menus when they work take long enough to get through so with this added delay by the time i've found something to watch inbetween progs its too late. So YES, it needs sorting. |

It was spooky seeing this thread as for the first time in a while I checked what was on catch-up TV early this afternoon and was pleased to find it was working perfectly and there was plenty of content. I also noted there were even three updates from today.
This is for BBC1 and 2 only as never bother to look at Bravo/Living carp. It is a great pity that this is the first time I can report having had a good experience with VOD since the update to the rediculously poor VM EPG. Anyway better late than never. Let's just hope that it's not just a flash in the pan. In spite of my good experience today I vote that "Yes they need to fix it" because I know just how carp it can be. |

I've voted no as VOD seems to work most of the time but it can take two or three attempts to get it to play anything sometimes. Having recently switched to V+, I'd say it's slightly less reliable on there than it was on the old Samsung 2100. Biggest problem with VOD is the fact the content is very hit and miss. Some weeks stuff is added religiously, others nothing appears. Very annoying when you're in the middle of a series and rely on it to catch epsiodes on when you are out. Maybe it's deliberate to get people to switch to V+ ;) |

I voted 'no' because my VOD works 99.99% of the time in Wolverhampton and if there is a problem a quick reboot sorts it.

My V+ box needed replacing before interactive and VOD would work, but my other boxes have worked fine from day one. VOD is very reliable, it is used every day and catchup new episodes appear usually within an hour of them finishing.

Nottingham and for second night running spent 45 mins trying to get any OD menu responding in < 60 seconds. went onto music on demand and artist went to "S" and it took 4 minutes 32 seconds to generate the first selections, page down and another 2 mins elapse JOKE

I'm in Blidworth and have a V+ Box.
VoD mostly works fine during the day but is problematic after about 5pm (presumably when there's more demand) Once the program has started it's fine. However, getting the list of programs intermittently results in "Video on demand is currently unavailable" or just a box with "Loading.... press [blue] to cancel" We did have a short period of blank screens and no audio after selecting the program from VoD but that's sorted now. Repeated attempts get you there in the end! It's irritating, but I can live with it. Pete. |

Ive seen a great improvement with my VoD since the Free Music was added!

Intermittent - some evenings it's faster than a speeding bullet, other times it requires loads and loads of pushing of the OK button to function without the dreaded message popping up. I assume, the more demand there is, the flakier the service ? |

I think its the more people that use it, to be honest... not too sure though.
