I can't believe there are 5208 unfortunate children called Oliver! Parents can be evil sometimes ;)

A friend of mine used to teach a kid called Dwayne Pipes (I actually lived next to a Wayne with a son called Dwayne), and a brother and sister, the Fletts, Lee and Pam
She also had a kid at school with a last name pronouced "Hofluer" but in true Bucket style, it was spelt Hogsflesh!

My Grandad, my Dad, me, my son, my brother-in-law are all in the top 20. How boring are we?

Obligatory silly child's name - Nicholas Bott.

On the other extreme, putting my other half's first name in Google comes up with just her eBay profile, thus making it about the most unique name in the world, with a score of 0 every year since 1972. Can't be too many eBayers under just their first name.

i am suprised there is only muhammed in there, and not abdul that 1 seems to be real popular.

I find it strange that "John" isn't in the top 20. I always thought that was rather common.

And "David"...where's "David"? Everyone knows at least one "Dave"!

Actually, that's an interesting point.
Jack is a form of John.
Mohammed is not actually the second most popular name.
It's way down there with only 2833 occurances.

"But wait, they've added all the different spellings together" I hear you cry.
And indeed they have:

Mohammed 2,833

Muhammad 1,422

Mohammad 920

Muhammed 358

Mohamed 354

Mohamad 29

Mahammed 18

Mohammod 13

Mahamed 12

Muhammod 9

Muhamad 7

Mohmmed 6

Mohamud 5

Mohammud 5

The thing is, they've not done the same with the other names.
Jack is a form of John, likewise with Jon, Jonny, Johnny, Jonothan, Johnathan etc.
I'd put money on that they've not done the same with Andrew, Andy, Andi, Andre, Drew etc either.
Dammit! They're flasifying the data to keep my name out of the top 20!

There is a certain group of people, which mainly name their children ABDI or MOHAMMED [however u spell it!]

In my school if I guessed one of their names correctly, they would be surprised. I wouldnt... it was a 50/50 chance;)

Some parents should be arrested for abuse for some of the names they land their children with...I've seen it all from Theresa Green to Candy Sweet to Tracey Stacey.I also wish they would all learn to pigging spell their child's name correctly and stop all the affected different spellings of the most commonplace names.I cannot believe how many ways there appears to be to spell Kayleigh/Kylie.

Also can anyone tell me how many different ways are there to pronounce Le Van?I've got a kid driving me mad who insists that however I pronounce it it's wrong even though I repeat exactly what he says. Even the Asian and eastern European students don't give me as much grief and their spellings don't even match the name.

Had the same kind of thing at one of my previous employers; one of the directors was called Bob Saul - it was only after he received a letter with his full first name on it (Robert) that the penny dropped.

His parents really didn't think ahead, did they?

Take the initial of his full first name, then pair it with his surname :D

Yup - why didn't they add up all the Johns, Jacks, Ians, Iains, Seans, Owens, Eoins, Evans, Ewans, Euans, Shauns, Shawns, Johnnies - and that's just the British versions.

Probably wouldn't have made a good inflammatory article, though :dozey:

Re: Muhammad is No 2 in boy's names

Sigh!

I know you all think that this is funny but I can assure you that as a person who did use to have a funny surname it's not.You either spend your time smashing someone's face in because they have been entirely unoriginal with the insults OR spelling it to all and sundry in business who can't believe you have a name like THAT and as a consequence change the spelling and try to render the name to something more normal. In the middle of all this you wonder why you are bothering because you actually want a name change.

And no my parents didn't saddle me with a stupid first name to match..they already thought they had done enough damage..They had already made that mistake with my elder sister.

What's that? The name...Well lets say it's very unique and anyone with the same surname HAS to be related to me.You are welcome to try and guess it.

I was at primary school with a girl called Hilda Bumgerner. In my village we had a well publicised Gurning contest each summer and she was not amused at the comments the lads made. Very un-pc but children have always thought bum jokes were funny. :D
