Help With BeThere

Today I Just Got Connected To BeThere Unlimited Getting 100KB Upload When Was Expecting Around 130KB Modem Config States: Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,139 / 3,157

Btw, Im Using A 10Meter Extension Could This Be The Problem?

Re: Help With BeThere

The extension could be the problem.

Also, go to http://samknows.com . If you type in your phone number, it should give an approximate distance to your exchange.

Re: Help With BeThere

Yeah Forgot To Mention That Its 1.60km

Do you have any telephone extension sockets?

yeah mentioned above a 10meter extension.

Remove everything from the line apart from the modem and try again.

I cannot thats why i have to use a extension.

Paul K 16-05-2007 20:21

Re: Help With BeThere

Well unless you can move the PC you may never find out if it's the extension. Any line noise, interference etc on the phone?

>DiN< 16-05-2007 20:26

Re: Help With BeThere

Nope no line noise or interference, i was told im not using the correct extension for broadband, so should buy a hard-wire extension in my case.

Paul K 16-05-2007 20:28

Re: Help With BeThere

Aye, hard wired is better than something designed for temporary use. Trouble is it costs to get it installed professionally. Have you asked for a line test to be run?

is there anyway you can even temporarily move the router/modem off hte extension to see if thats causing the problem.

can you get stats off the router/modem

Sync speeds, Attenuation, SNR.etc

You may also want to remove the bell wire.
And download the DMT tool, this will allow you to adjust your modem/router SNR levels
http://dmt.mhilfe.de/

r00t:edit
Ya, you deffo need to setup a good hardwired extension and remove the bell wire to improve SNR before using the DMT tool.

Adjusting his target SNR won't do anything in his case its already at 6db anything lower and the chances are it won't stay in sync.

What modem/router is it?

Hence the edit and advice of a hardwired extension and removal of the bell wire. ;)

extension in master socket, in extension comes the filter.

Re: Help With BeThere

Just Phoned up and they said each meter of the extension decreases my speed... when connecting straight to master socket i should get 15MB, is it possible to move the master socket?

NO and yes....

No your not supposed to interfere with the master socket as its down to your comms provider to deal with and if you do anything to screw up the line then you will probably be charged to put it right.

Yes its possible to move it at the end of the day its just a pair of wires connected to the back of it.

Is there no way you can move the router next to the master socket and just either use wireless or run a long piece of cat5 cable?

can't see why you'd need usb connected as well, i thought they just put that in for older computers that don't have ethernet ports.

ebay's quite cheap for network cables btw.

Odd what does it need the usb for

You haven't got your ethernet port disabled in windows networking config at all have you?

Is your network port onboard or a seaperate card, do you know who makes your board/chipset?

http://www.gtopala.com/ if your not sure goto that site and download siw it should be able to tell you who makes your board or at least which chipset its based on.

Or make/model of your pc might be enough information if your unable to tell us what motherboard it has in it. (assuming here that the network port is onboard as it is in most pcs thesedays).

Hopefully once we know what it is someone will be able to post a link to the drivers.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10.html

or if that link doesn't work

http://nvidia.com

click "Download drivers"

then "platform/nforce drivers"

Then "nforce 1/2"

then "windows xp"

I am of course assuming you have windows xp

Its a board based on the nvidia nforce chipset so those drivers should have the network port driver in them.

says 1 port is reserved for video, and one is for future use

Have you tried one of the other ethernet ports on the back of the be-box?

Re: Help With BeThere

No mention of video on that page. Also, on my BeBox, all four Ethernet ports work.

It's entirely possible that one of the ports on the BeBox isn't working, so it's worth trying another one anyway.

You made me think i was going mad and seeing things for a moment :p:, had to go back and double check.

I was just going on what the page said since i don't have one to test it out with ;)

Also worth trying another cable to make sure it wasn't a duff Ethernet cable
