News On The 4MB Upgrade?
Anyone know if the 4MB tier will be upgraded anytime soon?

Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
I've just off the phone after getting my "free" upgrade on to LTY7.
Before moving from the 4Mb up to the 10Mb (end of May for 20Mb he said) I asked when 4Mb would go up. He told me around September time. |
Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
I have asked many people who i trust and are in the know. They have heard nothing about any upgrade other than the 10 to 20 meg. Sorry

Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
I think it will be unlikely that 4MB will be upgraded by much, if at all. VM will see the 20Mb package as leverage for up-sell, and for attracting new business.
sucks I know, but you have to see this from VM's perspective, there is more money in Broadband than TV. ---------- Post added at 17:26 ---------- Previous post was at 17:23 ---------- Quote:
20MB is currently only 2 quid more than 10MB, what incentive would there be for pushing up the speed of 4MB for the same money? I'd leave it as it is, level entry, mid and "OMG should it be this fast?" |

It's a bit daft to have a top tier of 20MB and a middle tier of 4MB.

As far as I am aware 10 meg / 4 meg and 2 meg staying at same price. |
Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
I am guessing VM will do something like 5/10/20 packages at some point.

4MB for £25 is expensive now compared with many other ISP's, so I think they will upgrade the speed of both entry level and mid packages at some point. Something like 4MB/8MB/20MB will maintain the current differential between packages. |

Remember the adverts "Cable, if you can, you should." It's so damn true, yet people ignore it :p: |

Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
I agree my VM internet has been solid ever since I got it. :tu:
But... I do think VM should either upgrade the speed or lower the price as ADSL is now becoming as quick and reliable as my 4Mb line. |
Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
Account quality....mmmm. After the week of hell in Stoke with terrible connection speeds along with no information and worse still, lies from TS(India and UK) there would be a few people on here who may argue that point!
But I do take your point. Generally we get nearly max connection speeds most of the time. However, these things do not stand still. ADSL is improving giving more reliable higher speeds at a given price. VM need to keep upgrading to stay in touch in order to keep existing customers and to attract new customers. |
Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
Nikesh, that is true, I still think they should offer 5, 10 and 20Mbit with 500k, 1Mb and 2Mb standard upload and then on top offer a special upload package so for those who want the extra upload pay a bit extra and say get the following 1Mb, 2Mb, 4Mb.
Would attract a lot of new customers. |

I think a lot of people probably go for the top package for the upload speed as well these days. Shame there isn't a cable version of SDSL really  |

Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
To clarify my earlier post :
I was on TV - XL, Phone - Evenings & Weekends, Broadband - L (4Mb) I now have TV -XL, Phone - Anytime, Broadband - XL I've been told that during May I will get a "free" upgrade to 20Mb on the broadband. Before agreeing I asked when 4Mb would be increase and he said around September time and it would go up to "8 or 10". |

Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
ADSL Im totaly against, simply because everyone i know got all excited that their adsl 8meg lines would be great in comparison to my 4meg cable line.
oh they were so wrong, ive seen people struggle to get 3meg out of their adsl. only adsl company i do respect is pipex, i know a couple of people with their 2mb service who never see it below 2mb or above 2mb. nice to see they are advertising realistic speeds. i got online very beginning about 4 years ago, 512k broadband from telewest. never used dialup before so didnt think much off it. but back then 512k blueyonder was major big! had the same line, modem & service ever since, cant remmber any downtime and always had maximum line speed of what we were paying for, which is now 4meg £25 per month. - on the uddingston uBR |
Re: News On The 4MB Upgrade?
The Mrs was on the phone to NTL\VM last week and she was told that 4mb will be going up to 10mb but no time frame was given to her.
