woohoo :hyper: its up and running :) the engineers did a really good job

Having trouble connecting to the net (but can ping) using the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 (flashed it with the dd-wrt firmware) but works fine using the Linksys befsr41 Still. looks like i'm on 10 Megs (Cardiff) atm.

i get around 1.15MB/s after a few speedtests but need to tweak my TcpRwin settings.

now to cancel my bulldog isp.

They should be able to send a hit to your modem without having to come out. post in
blueyonder.support.access.hi-speed they should be able to help.

There is nothing wrong with that frequency, mine is on the same.

Acquire a Downstream Channel 402750000 Hz Locked

You will find that ex-NTL, ex-BY and even ex-C&W customers all have different frequency's.

402750000 Hz is an NTL frequency so Ichiban is probably in an ex-NTL area.

Yep I was just about to post after finding out the differences. he probably hasn't been put on the 10Mb properly or they have made him a member of the :wtf: group :)

That's not strictly true. as an incorrect signal could still give you a connection but at a risk of affected speeds and an intermittent connection.

You sound like Tarzan :)

It's not only me that doesn't know what they're talking about. it's the Virgin Media Technical Support people in the internal groups that don't. after all it's them that say the same thing. and it's them that are the ones who are altering customers modems remotely and changing the 'incorrect' signals. with good results reported from the customers from doing so.

Please don't insult both mine and their intelligence. and just say what you have to say without resorting to insults.

got my Buffalo router working and runs much better, speedtest is still slow but the newsgroup max out my connection so all is good :)

Hex 24-04-2007 16:49

Re: Cable for me Today :)

As I've often said before, always take speedtest results with a pinch of salt. A multi-thread download such as Usenet is always a better test of actual speed, and as you're maxing that out, all seems well. So happy surfing and downloading. ;)

Mine reads:

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 1
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : 4.8 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 35.4 dB

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 4
Upstream Frequency : 33584000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 31.8 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

I noticed on the one posted earlier than it said QAM256 on downstread modulation. Mine says QAM64 and was wondering what the differences were? I'm on 10mb btw.

That's mine. I'm also on the 10mb, with QAM64

Why is my downstream power level -8.3dBmV, compared with gunners boy's 4.8?

Levels will always be different ie at the front off the house they will be high at the back lower depending on the length:tu:

On a NTL 250 Modem it can be accessed by typing http://192.168.100.1

PS Make sure no proxies are specified in browser otherwise you wont be able to access. ;)

From my limited technical knowledge I think what Papa Smurf was saying is correct, he was talking about the actual carrier frequency's for the cable modem locks onto, it's a set value. The signals Paul H is talking about are more along the lines of SnR and Power levels, these ones can have adverse effect on signal quality if wrong, whereas if a modem is on the wrong frequency for the network, it wouldn't work full stop.

Of course I could be wrong, here, it has happened once or twice in the past...
