VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really
On and off over the past couple of weeks I've been browsing the VM site trying to get my head around all the new offerings. One thing that intrigued me was the total cost of a TV package plus the Sky Sports and Sky Movies, which I imagine must be quite popular. The figures are:
Size M: £37.00 Size L: £42.50 Size XL: £44.00 Now the interesting thing is the £1.50 difference between L & XL. This is small enough for your average user to say to himself, "Hmm, not much extra, might as well go for XL." Of course, with enough people this is going to make a tidy extra profit for VM. What I can't think of is a simple explanation for is the £5.50 difference between M and L, which is much more off-putting. Anyone care to hazard a guess at Virgin's reasoning? |
Re: VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really

Re: VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really
I am currently on XL/4MGB BB, two STB's ( one V+ ) and phone. My bill is always over £100 per month, just reading this weeks VM edition of Radio Times and it is advertising the VM VIP package, Full TV, 10 MG BB, V+ box plus extra V+ box, phone size XL, all for £85.00 per month.
This seems like a no brainer, will I be able to ring them up and request all of this and save £15.00 to £30.00 a month? :notopic: Would I need a separate modem for the 10 Meg BB? Currently have BB via Samsung STB. |
Re: VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really
yes, you should be able to specify a 'stand alone' modem, to optimise the connection, the stb isn't happy with 10 meg, afaik ...
- let us know how it goes, iadom :) |
Re: VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really
Yep you can change to the VIP package and ask for a cable modem too...
|
Re: VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really
Annoying thing is I have only recently changed my mobile to Virgin, nice nokia N73 for £30.00 per month. for a total of £125.00 per month on the 'Complete VIP package' the world could have been my Lobster( 700). :( :D

Re: VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really
I'm waiting for the unbundling that dickie boy promised..packages are restrictive.

I have tried to find references to unbundling in this regard but haven't had any luck at all. I was wondering if you had any link with more details? This would certainly make Virgin more attractive and would be a great idea - I've always hated the bundling of television channels, especially Virgin's as it's even more restrictive than Sky's (to get one channel you want, you have to get the XL pack and end up with loads you don't want). |

†note for CF moderators - "caines" is London colocialism for heavy usage. For instance, "Oi!! Kevin you greedy git, you've cained all the biscuits, there's none left!!". Hope this clears things up for you?? |
Re: VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really
And there was me thinking it should be spelt caned, as in hit hard, or given some stick.;)
Jim. PS. I would think that the word 'caned' used in this context is well known throughout the land, and certainly by most of the CF mods. ---------- Post added at 10:03 ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 ---------- Quote:
I have just phoned CS, they are coming on the 28th of March with another V+ box and a modem, followed hopefully by a significantly reduced bill. No need for veiled threats to leave, I would not have lost any sleep had the been unable to update me, would certainly not have gone over to the 'Dark Side' Jim. |
Re: VM TV Pricing Policy - Quite cunning, really
actually, it's "caned", not "cained"; as in - overdoing it (usually applied to overdrinking). ;)
cf Oxford Dictionary caned • adjective 1 (of furniture) made or repaired with cane. 2 Brit. informal intoxicated with drink or drugs. Beaten to it by iadom :) |

But to keep every one happy ( ie the boss:Yikes:) We need XL. At least when it was NTL we could "dump" the rest at the bottom. Now its go to favorites and wade about in that . before it was just move "across" and they were al in a line!:erm: |

Either way, my current services will go from 4meg to 10meg BB with a monthly reduction of between £15 & £30 in cost so I am 'dead chuffed' Jim. |
