I need advice - pretty fast!
Hey
Getting the L package installed on saturday and I have a quick question for people with cable tv already. Its a bit odd. On sky, the xxx channels (red hot etc) have picture adverts on those channels to try and tempt you into subscribing. I need to know whether or not those channels are listed on cable tv and whether or not there are pics of semi nude women all over them, and if so, can I get virgin to remove those? Also, can I get specific channels locked out by virgin?? It is a wierd question, and I'll be calling them in the morning to check anyway, but wondered if anyone can help? Before you ask, it's because of who will be watching the service that I want 'inappropriate' stuff removed. Thanks in advance! PS. If not, would the V+ box offer what I need. |
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
There's a parental control on the box that allows you to lock out channels. You will have to set up your passcode to something different as I think the default one is 0000

Will that prevent the 'red hot' adverts displaying (as an example) I've been told by CS that the image will still appear with an enter pin dialog over it. Ideally I want nothing at all to show up, except the enter pin bit. |
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
Just checked on my box and the answer is yes nothing of an adult nature shows up until you enter the pin. Also you just get a blank screen until you enter pin for other VOD adult content.

Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
Is this a massive concern due to kids. If so you might want to consider other channels which show adult content too.
I know of Bravo at late night and movies 24 are reknowned for showing adult content. Not sure if any other channels. As for your original question not too sure if this completely blanks out this content. |

Yeah I'm looking at blocking all that stuff, men and motors too probably, I don't mind doing it - I just need to know it won't be visible. If anyone could check for me, I'd be eternally grateful! :) ---------- Post added at 13:36 ---------- Previous post was at 13:36 ---------- Quote:

Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
just noticed if you know the times this stuff get shown you do a block by time.
So you could do it from 10pm to 6am this way it only kicks in when adult stuff transmitted. Dont know if this works by doing the same time for all channels or individual setting. ps blank screen also works for pace. I wonder if you could use both locks together |
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
Cool so samsung and pace both block out picture ads on the xxx channels? thats great news :)

Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
little advice after giving permision to unlock content make sure you move to another channel to re-enable lock out.
I still think a time frame lock out with the channel lock out to be the best solution to your issue. That way you can be safe in the knowledge you not missed a channel. 2100- 5am likely to be the best then you will only need to use channel lockings for the adult channels. Channels like movies 24 who in general show not adult stuff but can be more racey after the watershed. |

yes, but adult entertainment on these channels is shown way after the wateshed, when kiddywinks should be in bed. As for "blocking" them, it sounds a little bit "Ned Flanders" to far for me I do agree about the "previews" on the adult channels though. Why are they showing anything when you're not subscribed? You don't get previews of, for example Sky Sports or Sky Movies. Especially when they're situated next to the childrens channels |
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
It is more for the adult channels which have picture ads on them when you flick past - i'd just rather they weren't there tbh.
|
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
Could you not re-order the channels and put the adult ones towards the end (or at least away from the childrens' channels)?
|
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
You can't reorder channels on latest software but the PINprotection will do exactly what the OP needs!

Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
You can hide the adult channels from the EPG listing because i've done it myself and i'll post later on how to do it as i'm not a home at the moment and can't remember the keystrokes.
I know its in the favourites menu and you press one of the coloured buttons to hide the adult listings |

That sounds perfect, if you can help me out with that I'd be v.chuffed :) |
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
if you dont have the adult channels in your package or as add-ons they just show you are not subscribed to this channel message with black background
|
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
Hmmm, just checked this on V+ box, ex TW Blackpool, and the piccys show and no mention of not being subscribed, even though not subscribed.
Quickly flicking through TV guide they all run 10:00pm - 6:00am, on the screen in minute writing it does tell you how to lock the channel. Just checked and if you press HOME, then select settings, then locked channels, after entering PIN you can lock channels out. If you press yellow, it will hide adult listings :) HTH |

Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
As I'm getting a fresh install tomorrow, and I've not had cable tv before, and I'm in an ex-telewest area, what am I faced with :/

Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
dailygeek,
Install can vary.:erm: If house has never had cable, they will have to run a line from street junction, up garden to house. They'll then fit a brown box to outside wall. They'll then fit a box inside house and install your kit. Then they phone activations and get it all swithched on :) Previous house had never had cable, so they had to do the run from street to house. :( As it was only lawn etc, they dug down about half a spade deep, then ran the cable in conduit to house. Took about 1 hour. They don't bury it deep enough, cut through it a few times. Current home had previously been connected, so was simply a case of bringing in kit and calling activations, total time 20 mins:) All the install teams we've had have been good and tidied up after themselves :) |
Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
I already have a blueyonder bb connection. they are just going to install the tv so hopefully it shouldnt be too bad. I just need to know for sure i can lock out these channels, but it sounds like it ???

Re: I need advice - pretty fast!
dailygeek,
As you are already connected to the network for BB, they'll fit a splitter so they can feed both BB and TV box. Think you should be ok, our V+ has the new virgin software and the old box the old TW software, both use the same method I posted. As you are on blueyonder for BB, I assume you are ex TW. |
