Excellent choice but not cheap :( I have been selling and installing these for a couple of years, never had one fail and also have a great set of advanced features (if you need them).

Linksys WRT54G, WRT54GSUK, WRT54GL :)

Also DD-WRT firmware! ;)

Its worth noting, if you flash the router with the dd-wrt firmware, you will void your warranty. ;)

If you did install the DD-WRT firmware, is there any way to de-install it and revert back to the routers original firmware?

What effect would it have if you did a factory reset have while DD-WRT is installed?

You can download the Linksys firmware from their site, and then just install that - it will remove all trace of the dd-wrt firmware having been on your router.

Doing a factory reset doesn't change the firmware, it just resets default passwords and default configurations... but you'll still have the same version of firmware.

And just how much would a Cisco router set you back? There's a reason you don't see many of them around the house...

My vote is another for the 54G (or 54GL as it would need to be now) with DD-WRT. It does run on other routers these days, but the 54G has a brilliant track record. If it helps, IIRC, Linksys was bought by Cisco a while back to serve the domestic market.

Not quite, but close enough.

WRT54G + Third Party Firmware > Cisco (and for a fraction of the cost)

That's the theory floating round as to why Linksys originally ditched (or were told to ditch by Cisco!) the third party compatible configuration and then brought it back at a high premium anyway.

As for Juniper, they've been around a while and generally seen as a company capable of giving Cisco a damn good run for their money.
