What are you watching instead of Sky One ?
 

Just thought i would ask, what are people watching now they don't have Sky One ?

When you would normally be watching shows such as Stargate Atlantis, 24, Lost and other first run shows on Sky One. What are you doing instead ?

I tend to look more towards the National Geographic, History and Discovery channels to find an alternative. For some reason though, even though i'm a bit of a sci-fi buff, i don't look at the sci-fi channel.

Supernatural on vod i'm up to episode 5 i just hope its on there long enough for me to watch all 15 episodes.

If you read it that way, i didn't mean it that way. I just wondered what some peoples alternative to some programs on Sky One might be. I know i don't miss the channel that much, but i am looking to buy Stargate Atlantis season 3 on DVD as soon as i can find somewhere to buy it from.

Ummm .... I'm watching Sky One. It feels dirty. But it's soooo good. :D

I wish I was standing side by side with my former VM comrades, but these days I live off-net and a dustbin lid on the chimney was my only choice. So this is all passing me by - until Sky starts upping its subs to pay for lost revenue. :erm:

I haven't really been watching much TV since sky one vanished. Instead I have been out seeing friends and girl friends - so thanks Virgin - I now have a life :)

My wife watched 24, she misses it but not so desperately, and she doesn;t want to let SKY win. We are happy with Virgin Central, I am happy cos there is no adverts there, and she is happy with the choice of programmes, and we all say SKY can stick SKY1 up Murdoch's behind.

my other half is the same - though it may take a bit of convincing to get him to watch said channels - once he gets into it (after ooh about 5 minutes) he'll moan if I change the channel :p: I watch those channels all the time, so I feel quite smug when he gets moany if I change it!

I don't watch television that much, but when I do it was often Sky One. Now that I've lost it, when I do want to sit back and relax a little, I'm going through my old archive of recorded programs (including Sky One from the past - is that cheating? ;) ) as well as a few programs I like on UK Gold and the BBC. I'm glad that I have a PVR on my computer so I've been able to build up quite a nice library of television over the years. It's not as nice as new programs, but it's better than nothing.

One thing that I've seen a lot of recently though, is that a lot of people seem to be downloading the episodes they used to watch on Sky One over the internet. I can understand, but my worry is that if lots of people do this, Virgin wont realise that a lot of people want Sky back, thus leaving the channel gone, until everyone else will either have to switch to Sky or join in the downloading :/

Don't forget that Virgin have been busy buying programmes for the VOD (I'm guessing Virgin Central), and that includes that programme Lost.
And if they're downloading the programmes - why would they want to move to Sky anyway?

Oops, sorry - misesd out the world 'else' for 'everyone else'. What I was thinking was that if Virgin get the impression that lots of people don't want Sky One because they are downloading episodes instead, they may not consider it worthwhile to get the channels back. Those that don't download will then be left without it, and they will be the ones that will either need to switch to Sky or move to downloading themselves, whereas if downloading wasn't an option, there would probably be more people wanting to get the channel back and thus more pressure upon Virgin to try to find a way to bring it back. It was just the impression I've got from what was on the news, what has been posted on Virgin's fairplay section and on various forums recently - a lot of people are taking the view "I don't care Virgin dropped Sky One, I can download them instead now", which is fine for those that can or will do that, but more difficult for those that can't. In the current anti-downloading situations that are arising, it could pose a particular problem if people switch to downloading, and then Virgin is forced to give over the details of downloaders, downloading is blocked/prevented/filtered and such - hopefully unlikely, but possible - by which poiint it'd be too late to do anything about it.

I'm catching up with various programmes on other channels, and on demand (as well as some of my DVD backlog).

Grand Designs (great series) on VOD, Rome on DVD, things like Fraiser on Paramount and that's just a start.
I've also been making use of the V+ box :)

Before sky 1 departed, i would get in from work, see which ep of american chopper was on discovery, see which ep of topgear was on uktvg2, and then see what ep of futurama was on sky 1.
Now, i check discovery, check uktvg2, and then head for VOD to watch those programmes i missed on their first showing.

I love VOD, i have finally watched the first 10 episodes of "Lost", i can see the attraction, it's "Car crash TV", it's a bit like when everyone crawls along a motorway to gawk at a 5 car pile-up.

Only thing I wanted to watch on Sky1 was that new series starting tonight about the last 24 Hrs of famous people's lives but I'll download them and watch them at my own leisure. :)

Been watching alot of stuff on the OnDemand. Shameless and Red Dwarf amongst others. Might watch some classic Father ted tonight :)

Before the switch off, I started taping all the sky stuff onto the harddrive (about 200+ hours)

Still feels like I'm watching sky one - minus the adverts :-)

£4.75 for 50 gig a month news access :)

Cancelled VM phone and TV services last month due to billing errors and with no intention of switching to sky, i'm saving a small fortune :)

If Richard really wanted to stick one on sky then he should add the tv binaries on the free news server ;)

We had to downgrade one package due to money problems, and we really miss the Geographic and History channels as well as a few others. Now that Sky1 along with other Channels have gone, we tend to watch more of the UKTV ones, but they are just repeated all the time? We did have a look at that new "choice" thing that is supposed to be a filler, but quite frankly, they are the pits of programs in the first place?
We really want to stay loyal to Cable as we have been customers for years, but to be honest there is not much scope when you have the "middle rate" T.V. Package?
As for "pay as you view" well we had to drop a package to be able to keep our contract with cable, so there is no way we could afford that. So what does Virgin Media have in the pipeline for folk like us?

I'm just watching less tv at those times I watched Bones,Stargate and the Dresden files.That was my viewing for the week on Sky 1.Though I'm watching Eureka instead on a Thursday night.Then ther's Ugly Betty.

Has anyone seen the Blade series on Bravo?What do you think of it?

Only ever watched Sky One between 7 and 9pm. any other time was full of re-runs Voyager, TNG, Stargate... Yawn
Now I'm looking at UK Gold, Para Comedy 1 & 2.

New Simpsons, Stargate/Atlantis, Lost etc can be had at higher quality elsewhere... Before they are on Sky One.

Im getting the shows from other sources, Im finishing with VM after 12 years of having cable. There just is not anything now to justify keeping it when I can get freeview for things like e4 etc

I wanted to watch the series as i am a big Blade fan, just i heard it got canned after one series so didn't see any point in getting going on it.

I might pick it up later when it eventually hits VoD.

I am new to this site, I have been Ntl customer for bout 2 years and am waiting patiently for my shiny new v+ box today between 8 and 1.
Fingers crossed they actually turn up..



I am not missing sky one at all , I watched 11 Episodes of 2 and a half men on vod , and it did not cost me a penny , I am loving the on demand content

I just wish that Sky would update the Sky By Broadband pay per week or whatever thingy so that I can watch the last episodes of Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis.:mad: I did get to see a Zed and Two Noughts (Z00) though! Love that film!

Then I won't miss the missing chanels at all!!

I watched episodes 1 and 2 of Trigger Happy last night! Top stuff! (and free on VOD :) )

1. how can you yawn at repeats of sci fi shows and then wonder over to UK GOLD and not yawn? and para comedy is mostly repeats as well.

2. That isnt always the case sg1 and other shows can and have appeared first on sky 1 before any other network (including the US)

Just posted on SatTVTalk about the dramatic increase of torrent downloads since Sky One disappeared from VM.

Apparently there is an effort to go after consumers rather than the sites themselves, has anyone heard any other rumours about this?

I just found out today, that the "Catch up TV" has a lot more to offer then I thought! I found out by watching them tw0 blokes who tell you how to work everything? Now I never even think of Sky1 or indeed any Sky channel, as I can now catch up with all the programs I missed, Like that one abut the poltergeist! That was well worth watching :tu:

OMG ...theres masses of stuff to watch....But I think VM should go get stargate and trek reruns ect... I really miss my daily dose of Stargate...
