I was a very late comer to the world of video as we never really felt we needed one. Finally got a VCR in 1997

I think ours was a Sharp, which we could set to turn on the analogue cable box, when we wanted to record, back then ;)

- the move to digital doesn't seem to have improved, that ;)

edit - unless you have v+, of course ;)

we had a top loader that you had to catch the video from. Think I was about 12 so that would have been 82ish. My dad used to copy Atari computer software (not the console but he did that too ;)) and our local video library had a lot off him. Instead of cash payment we were allowed any videos we wanted and at 13/14 and video censorship still not imposed I was always after the electric blue off the top shelf ;)

Snap. I was thinking about the features, top loading, one timer. 8 channels which were push (click) buttons, wired remote control, and the tape counter was mechanical.
And the first thing that it recorded (well it was on the telly at the time) was 'Live from Norwich...'

Some sort of huge chunky top-loading Betamax thing.

Talking of video's, I remeeber in early computer magazines adverts for a card you could buy to connect your PC to your VCR to backup all your data !

Betamax top loader with push in buttons on the front that allowed you to tune in up to 6 channels.

I had a JVC Hi-Fi Nicam VHS recorder, six months before anyone was broadcasting in Nicam.

Me too, The Ferguson Videostar circumciser (A la Peter Kay). Kept having to have it repaired as the bulb wich allowed the machine to see the cassettes when inserted kept blowing. We never had the wired remote for the ours either as it was apparently an optional extra :Yikes:

Ha! Same here - or was it Rumbelows(remember them?)

Think it was also a chunky Ferguson Videostar - it was built like a house and weighed as much. Top loading jobbie as well...

I remember going down to the new video rental shop and hiring Silent Running.

What was your first video you hired?

Radio rentals job also, The VCR we have no is not even connected up and has played 2 videos in its 2 year life. It played Forest Gump and I had to turn it off as the Pq was shocking and I used it to convert a wedding vid to DVD for someone. What a waste of money it is...

Re: do yu remember your first video recorder

Ferguson Videostar... pre-remote control days.. big chunky buttons and you had to force down the play, record and pause once you'd mastered the timer (which my parents let me do... ugh!)
Stonking great big tv in the corner balanced precariously on MFI constructed 'tv stand'... lol.. how that thing never fell I'll never know! :D
TV was a bloomin' great big Radio Rental thing... can't remember the make now...
I *do* remember us being the only family at church that had a video machine and yeah...*hangs head* we had the bible study group around a few times to watch religious videos (Ok, 'Chariots of Fire' and 'Joni' to name but 2...) and yeah, those days are LONG over!!! :D

My first blank video tape cost me £5 from the local chemist... back then, they were expensive and only a few shops could sell them......

another n1500 here! remember the cooker clock on it :)
then the 1700
then 2*4 super v2000
then the 2080 grundig
then things got a little boring :)
still found no other tape machine to match the pq of the 2080!
oh and I once dropped a sony c6 down a flight of stairs it smashed a panel out of the door took a chunk out of the wood floor but remarkably... it still worked!
still got 2 philips laserdisk players (I think I am waiting for them to be collectable lol) but I think that's another thread:erm:
