What do you think of IE7.0?

Is it just me, or is Internet Explorer 7.0 crap?
At least with 6.0 i did`nt need to tweak it so much.:(
Any of your wise opinions would be helpful. :)

why do people need to customise all the time?

Haven't used Internet Explorer for years now. It just can't keep up IMO.

So you prefer it to run without being asked?

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

I never used to be a big fan of FF, but IE7 clinched it for me. I switched to FF after trying IE7 for a day or 2. The IE7 fonts are horrible, but more importantly, the location of the navigation buttons in IE7 is too cumbersome for me.

I hate it! I'm sure it's far more advanced under the bonet, but I hate the way it works and I hate the narly little buttons and I hate the fact that I can't hover my mouse over an image a little save button appears.

So, I'm on IE6 again. And I'm going to avoid Vista until they sort IE7 out too!!!!

Doesnt your replacement just allow them to install?

Strzelecki 02-03-2007 22:37

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

From a design point of view it's just as much of a pain to write CSS for as IE 5 and 6 were. There are still problems aligning simple things that Opera, Safari and firefox render quite happily. The only good thing is better support for the :hover psuedo class.
Oh and you don't have to 'validate' Firefox to install it do you, because they want you to use their browser.
Bodging FTP access onto IE7 ('open in explorer') is a bit pointless too.

SnoopZ 02-03-2007 22:53

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

Opera all the way for me apart from the odd page that wont work. I find Firefox far to slow at rendering for me to change to it.

From mozilla plugins info:

Quote:

Can I use ActiveX controls?
Yes, however, this is not advised.
There is an ActiveX plugin available for Mozilla. However, installing it can cause many problems, including crashes and conflicts with installed plugins. It is generally recommended that you do not install this plugin, unless you are specifically instructed to do so or are using it to solve a specific problem (and configuring it accordingly). If you install it and have problems, the only support you will usually get is "Uninstall the ActiveX plugin". You have been warned.

That's only for 1.5 & below, then it's pre-configured only to work with WMP. FF 2 doesn't have any facility to run ActiveX controls AFAIK...

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

It's not bad, certainly better than IE6 IMO.

Still prefer Firefox 2 though.

Also, is there any way to get IE7 to do RSS feeds like FF does with its "Live Bookmarks"...or is it just me being thick? I like how FF lets you see e.g. "Latest BBC Headlines", with a nice little link for each story, whereas IE7 seems to just have one link for the RSS feed, which opens one page with all the links.

Currently no but it would be a more useful way of showing feeds. You could try Feeds Plus but to be honest they need to make improvements to the RSS reader in IE7 to keep up with the way people want to view things.

Im still running IE6 at the moment looking for a decent alternative, IE7 is awful, removed it after it accidentally automatically updated.

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

When I tried IE7 in Vista Beta 2, the first thing I noticed was that the menu bar was below the navigation icons. Personally, I hate that. I know you can probably move it all about, but it's just something I don't like.

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

What's IE7? hehehe actually I do use it for windows update & for those odd occasions when Firefox isn't supported by a web page, but those are so infrequent that I could probably get away with uninstalling it & not notice the difference.

At least there is a 64bit IE7. Deerpark is truly pants!:(

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

If IE7 is hanging it could be the phishing filter not being able to check the page out. There is a KB fix for it on the MS site. If you have clean/ format installed vista and it still happens then I would think something is very wrong.

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

I don't like the menu/nav bar system at all, and the fonts it renders with are horrible.

However, I suppose I do approach is with some bias, as i've been using Firefox for ages and much prefer it.

Chrysalis 06-03-2007 10:32

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

7.0 to me looks like a job half done and they rushed it out.

Some basic features which normal in other tabbed browsers are missing such as.

Live storage of opened tabs so if the browser crashes the tabs come back when reopened.
Closing a tab taking you back to last used tab not the last tab on the bar.
Multiple rows for tabs.
Full customisation of toolbars.
Download history
saving opened tabs as group

Also there has been various bugs I have witnessed some posted in another thread.

msn doesnt honour the open in new tab/window setting, always uses new window.
enabling true type html slows down outlook greatly.
it struggles with some auth types.
it has crashed a few times.
Using back/forward can display intermediate pages that are sub links.

Re: What do you think of IE7.0?

Well I quite like IE7, but I ended up converting to FF because my PC at uni decided that IE6 the 7 should take ages to "find" different pages. Takes it around 10-15 seconds before it actually started loading the site. This was after setting up a VPN and removing it. I have unistallered IE 7 and reinstalled but it made no different. Anyone ever encountered this problem before and know of a fix?

PM the fix if there is one btw... don't want to hijack the thread ;)
