Just Got V+

Hiya, just Had V+ installed and it looks great so far, all the channels are working but the V+ stuff says call 150 so I rang them and she said it takes 24 hours for it to send the V+ record etc down the box. Is this true or do I need to talk to someone else?

I have just been told It's the box, but reading on here I don't think it is, am getting a message with 2001 to quote, they said they will send someone out wednesday.

Mine was all working too when the engineer left yesterday. But when I switched on this morning the box had frozen, so phoned CS and they told me to switch off and back on, which did the trick. I asked him why my volume control and mute didnt work so he is sending me a new set of buttons, did I read somewhere that this is a common fault? Also in settings I tried to switch on the bit where it allows your tv to switch on in av1, but as soon as I have saved the setting and gone back into it, it has returned to off, CS didnt know, does anyone here know about that function?

Does the V+ box work with ordinary TV's with SCART sockets? Mines just a plain old 22" Phillips TV with a SCART socket and never thought whether it would be compatable!

Install is set for 15th March so plenty of time to cancel if it's not :)

Yes, V+ works with SCART :)

It's nothing an engineer can fix. It sounds as if they haven't activated the right box at the CS end - they need to send the signal to the right card. I assume you had your old box moved, right ? Chances are they have sent the V+ signal to the old box. Get on the blower to them again and ask to speak to the V+ team in Wales.

you have to configure your remote control to the code for your tv to use the volume control. go to help and information from the home page and follow instructions

Yes thats right because i had the exact same problem when i had my V+ box installed on Tuesday and the engineer came and just before he arrived it said on the screen your V+ has been activated or something similar, and he turned up and said it was a problem their end because it was not sending the right signal

I'm due to get mine on 10th March. I think that there have been several software updates since the first ones came out, and a lot of the problems previously reported have now been solved.

Re: Just Got V+

Had my V+ installed over the weekend, so here's my take...

The Good:-
  • Install, including the moving of my old Pace box, took about 40 minutes.
  • Everything worked straight out of the box, including HD.
  • Picture quality (with a couple of exceptions - see below) is excellent on 720p. On 1080i it doesn't seem so hot, but I assume that's my panels fault not VM's.
  • I find myself staring, almost hypnotised, at the BBC HD preview loop and will watch almost anything in HD at the moment (Last of the Summer Wine !!!)
  • I like the GUI, and the response times have been excellent
The Bad:-
  • Engineer was an hour early. Normally this would be a cause for celebration, but it meant I almost missed him as he was wondering back to his van to leave because no-one was in when he knocked on the door. Not sure what would have happened had I missed him...
  • Because everything worked out of the box it was fine, but he was out of the door following the install before I could even ask him half the questions I thought I needed to ask (having read stuff on here).
  • Didn't exactly get a good "lesson" in how to use the thing. I find it relatively simple but for some a better run through might be in order.
  • The Sky Sports channels (of the channels I've looked at) appear to have a much lower picture quality than all the BBC, ITV, C4 etc ones. No idea if this is a general Sky issue or a Sky/VM issue but it had noticeable artifacts etc.
  • Not being able to re-order the channels is a right pain in the ****.
The question:-

I have my old Pace box moved into another room. Should VOD work on that box as well as the V+ box?

Peterborough (if you were referring to me.
I'll let you all know Saturday afternoon how it goes.
I'm starting to write a check list so I'm ready when the engineer comes (8am....)

Re: Just Got V+

Another question if I may.

When you record something of an HD channel (so BBC HD by default at the moment) does it record at the settings that you have set up at the time, or does it record in whatever the native format is and then up/down scale it for play back?

Not sure that's particularly clear so I'll give an example. I've made a 10 minute recording from BBC HD because I want to try the different settings (720 and 1080) on the same bit of footage. Is that recording now locked at 720 (my setting when I recorded it) or will changing my settings before playback have the same effect as it wold on live tv?

I had mine installed today - 1st problem I had was the mute and volume not working but paired it with the TV via the help button and it is now working fine :) Also Virgin central 119/120 would not load - Just turned off box for a minute or two at power source and turned on - System rebooted and it has worked every time since
