[Merged]Sky One fault 25/2/07.
Don't know how long it'll last, but Sky One's bitrate has been turned right down at the headend and audio descript enabled.
Edit: There's a semi-national TV fault, see page 2. |
Re: Check out Sky One now...
pardon my less knowledge but what does this mean for people lol
|
Re: Check out Sky One now...
Looks like NTL's feed is okay, Telewest is foobarred.
It means it looks blocky, and there's audio description of events in 24 in effected areas. |
Re: Check out Sky One now...
I have no sound on all channels. Do you thing Rupert pulled the plug at headend? (I am in the Guildford area)
|
Re: Check out Sky One now...
No problem here in Woking
|
Re: Check out Sky One now...
Problems here in Wirral - Sky one just keeps locking up, going to a blank screen, then coming back on a few mins later
|
Re: Check out Sky One now...
Yeah, it looks like some kind of fault at the Knowsley 'head end' (Telewest's distribution point in Liverpool) with Sky channels. Worst timing ever, though, as it will start the rumour mongering.
|
Re: Check out Sky One now...
commpletely lost Sky One in Stockport SK2
|
Re: Check out Sky One now...
Sky1 in birmingham is very pixelated with a narrator talking over 24...perhaps its the nail in the coffin from sky!

Re: Check out Sky One now...
Bury BL9 without Sky One. So instead of watching 24, we've got the Vicar of Dibley on. I'm just waiting for Jack Bauer to show up and start breaking Hugo Hortons fingers.......

How come faults happen when it's weekend and there's no-one there at the other end to sort it out??? |
Re: Check out Sky One now...
well well how strange. Sky One reappeared a few minutes after 24 finished.. Stayed on air for the first few minutes of Lost and has now gone again. Must be a coincidence...

It is sky who have caused what exactly? They have caused the problem with the picture and sounds? Can you prove that? You have no choice but to gain the channels by other means? Sorry, you have every choice to watch something legitimate, you either stay with VM or you go with sky, tell me, why is it not practical? not liking the look of a dish on the side of your house is one thing, but to say it is not practical without a reason is not really sound reasoning is it? Sky have a product just as any company, what they sell it at is upto them, they are entitled to do that, if VM do not want to pay what they view as excessive then that is their right. But to say " NO CHOICE " do me a favour ;) |
Re: Check out Sky One now...
I can't have a dish due to the building restrictions on this house.
Maybe it was an entire coinsidence that SkyOne went wrong just during it's heaviest rating - but maybe it wasn't, who are we to know. I've been perfectly happy with the service I've had over the last few years. I've paid for all I have but now it seems that Sky and VM spat is going to rob me of two of my programs. I'm perfectly willing to pay-my-way, but I won't be held to ransom. I hope the day comes soon when we can buy the shows from the independant. |
Re: Check out Sky One now...
Quote:
Sorry to hear about the restrictions, but you have atleast explained ;) Totally agree, I dont know why all these packages cannot be broken down into just programmes you would buy seperately, it must be technically possible. |
Re: Check out Sky One now...
We checked the feed comming in, it was distorted there. Can't prove it but you know it...
|

Checked the feed coming in where? Cant prove it but you know it? Can you explain that thought? If I saw a group of lads around my car one night and the following morning I discovered four slashed tyres does that mean that I know it was them? |

Re: Check out Sky One now...
No but when you check the feed comming into the TW network and it is distorted is sort of sets of alarm bells. The distortion was not down to us.

Hey ;) I never suggested otherwise, if you thought I did then sorry. All my collection is genuine, my music collection is my pride, having a real good system that I have makes it nonsense to buy copies. ---------- Post added at 12:25 ---------- Previous post was at 12:23 ---------- Quote:
Is this the first time this has happened? It could well be coincidence, as I pointed out last night mine was ok, but then I am with sky for the tv. |
Re: Check out Sky One now...

SKY just getting petty. ps checked mine today and yes ours is very poor so its definate someing up. |
Re: Check out Sky One now...
Well the sky feed to sky customers was fine, but the sky feed into the TW headend was degraded and carrying the audio descriptors.
We wouldn't purposefully distort the content on Sky, we feel no need to sink that low. If Sky are so scared they can always just give in and accept a reasonable price for their channels. They're gona loose out bit over this too. |

But again, not wanting to sound pro sky because I have their equipment, but without solid proof? Can VM not take it up with a particular body? |

Only 400 affected last night?
I can't believe that only 400 people were affected last night with disrupted channels. Mine were off for quite a while, even Lost had a big gap in it!

Saying that the feed has a slight shake(jump) to it right now. yet the sky one logo does not move. Is this normal during simpsons. I don't watch it |
Re: [Merged]Sky One fault 25/2/07.
If ex-TW and both ex-ntl feeds were affected (which seems likely, ex-TW here in London was wonky during Lost until I threatened the STB with remote violence) then it has to be something upstream (I'm presuming that a simultaneous identical snag in Bromley, Langley and Knowsley is near-impossible). We may have a shiny logo and a shiny name but it's still three platforms for us at the coalface.

Re: Check out Sky One now...

As for the above quote I find that quite rude. A Virgin Media employee has told you that the feed coming into the Telewest network was distorted. He can't prove it because there is no way to get screen captures and audio captures from the equipment, but when you know that the Sky broadcast to the headend was distorted with AD I would be pretty damn sure that Sky were to blame. Why should a Virgin Media employee have to "explain themselves" to you? Why should a general member of the public have to "explain themselves" to you? As for the slashed tyres comment, yes, you may see some kids around the car, but there is only one feed, one secure feed from Sky to Virgin Media - so because the feed is coming in from Sky, that would be the source, no? On a side note and a last paragraph to try and wrench this thread back on topic, I'm ex-ntl Bromley and saw no problems with Sky One. There was slight distortion but was not really noticeable as I was watching on a 21" CRT, which is pretty good at hiding the distortion, but funny that it all went when the "Virgin Media is Crap" adverts came on... Now arcamalpha, It's a bit of a large coincidence, don't you agree? Especially as the distortion was most noticeable during 24 and Lost. |

Dont go off one at me pal! I was asking genuine questions. With regard the dish, the op stated that it was not practical for them to have a dish, in some people's opinion " not being practical " means " I dont like the look of " The op had no problem with my questioning, and he/she explained about the planning permission, which explained it, as I said they had no issues with me asking, do not put your nose in. Secondly, If VM personally feel there was some sabotage, there are avenues I am sure that they can take in complaining, otherwise they should put up or shut up. Down the years NTL/VM have been plagued with problems, with regard the tv, but suddenly it all becomes someone else's fault. So dont be going off on one at me pal. |
Re: [Merged]Sky One fault 25/2/07.
Were NTL really that bad? I'm on the TW side and they've been nothing but gold with me for 4 years now. DSL, 100%, never failed. I think the TV went wrong once for a few hours a year or so back. But that's it.
Helpful tech support geeks too! |

Iv'e been with NTL/C&W/Nynex for thirteen years and had very few problems.
Our Sky 1 etc (Bromley) was OK Sun. |
Re: Check out Sky One now...

I put my nose in because the OP felt forced with your 3rd degree!! Down the years, you should actually try using NTL/Telewest. I have been a cable customer for OVER 9 YEARS and have had ONE problem, which was sorted same day by the customer service. I still think you are rude. Two posts and your replies are full of question marks. |
Re: Check out Sky One now...

Two posts? I suggest the following: 1..... Get those eyes checked, for one it will aid you to see how many posts I have made. 2..... If you checked my posts you would see that I have tried NTL/VM for tv, and it was not practical, in that money was going from my bank account under false pretences ;) Am I rude because I place a question mark after a question? Funny how I was taught to always place one after a question. You know very little about me, and in reality I about you, but to suggest I am rude, I think I will treat that one as it deserves. ---------- Post added at 10:46 ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 ---------- Quote:
