What are you on and How much you Paying?

There seems to be so much inconsistency with VM pricing, I thought I would ask here.

I've been offered

TV:XL..no Sky Sports, or Movies
Phone: 24/7 but no Mobile or International phone calls incl.
BB: 10MB
V+ No Multi Room
Itemised billing (1.00 Extra)
Caller Display (1.75 Extra)

How much? £55.00 + cost of V+ (£10) + 2.75 Extras.

(this is after taking of my entitled discount for £28.00)

What are you on ? How much?

What is "entitled discount"?

rv1 21-02-2007 13:56

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

CS informed me that I'm entitle to that much discount if I upgrade. Basically, the upgrade package comes to £91 so they want to give me £28 discount maybe.

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

Same

V+ with XL package, 10mb Unlimited, 24/7 Landline=£55

No mobile or sky movies/sport.

My PQ is great and I am so pleased VM upscale sd progs.

The engineer made me aware of the epg freeze and promised a fw upgrade on the 26th.

ordered VIP for installation in 2 weeks, but not paying the £85 and i got the chap to double check it all and it was indeed right (also includes the second box reinstall and channels) :D

and it still all works out less than what i'm paying with no movies and basic phone.

I'm on the 3 for 30 package with upgraded broadband:

Phone - Talk unlimited weekends
TV - Large
Broadband - 4Mb

Price - £38 per month.

TiggerT 22-02-2007 12:02

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

I was on the 3 for 32.99 pounds, which a while back became became 3 for 33.99 pounds which was:
Talk Unlimited Local
2Mb/s Broadband
TV Base Pack.
Now according to http://www.whycable.co.uk/pricechang...Value_Pack.pdf I should have:
Talk Evening and Weekend Local
Broadband size L (4Mb/s)
TV size L
For 34 pounds.
Though looking at the channel listing I also seem to have MTV UK and VH1 which aren't included in the TV size L package, and I've not tested my broadband speed recently but I doubt it's jumped from 2Mb/s to 4Mb/s

No special "retention" discounts for me.

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

hmm, let me try and get this right... according to my current bill - I get

sky sports collection @ £16.50
+ tv size xl @ £9.00
+ broadband size m @ £18.00
+ payment handling charge @ £5
+ tv size L and telephone @ £22.50
+ talk weekends @ £0 = £71! that's a lot (to me!)

so I thankfully have some discounts that bring my bill down to approximately £30 excluding phone calls! :D

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

I have....

TV size XL = £20.50
V+ Box = £10.00

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

I called them today and got Telephone Free Evenings and Weekends TV XL and 10 mb Broadband at £50 on an offer that will not expire cos i said i was sick of calling every 6 months!!

They are sending a modem as the box wont take the speed and when i was cheeky enough to ask for wireless the guy said " Go to pc world and buy one, send me the reciept and i will credit your bill!!!

It did take an hour to get thru mind, and i did pick the day after the sky thing was announced so i think he had been given the go ahead to keep people at all costs.

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

I signed to upgrade to the VIP package today (have I done the write thing?) I already had Broadband and Telephone with telewest, I have SKY for the TV (full works). The VIP package is £85. When I rang to cancel Sky he said Sky could do the same deal as Virgin for £63 and was very forceful, and kept saying you wont get a lot of Sky channels. When I actually added the extras on for installation and the cost and trouble to go to BT the cost was slightly more with SKY.

RedLiam 26-02-2007 19:34

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

Originally I was on this deal:

TV Size L

Broadband Size L

£23.50 a month

Then I rang Virgin on Friday and got this deal:

TV Size XL

Broadband Size L

Phone Size XL

£34.95 a month

I rang them again just now. I'm now on:

TV Size XL + V+ (free for 6 months - I'm sure I can just ring back after 6 months to renew)

Broadband Size L

Phone Size XL

£34.95 a month

As I'm only having one box (the V+ box), I should pay £75 to have it installed. However, they've said they're happy to waive this charge!

All in all, I'm chuffed.

For £61 "for life" (whatever that means). Maybe until the end of the new contract.

Not sure how they worked all that out because the details on the contact make no sense at all. Oh well. :D

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

Hey,

I'm paying £25pm to NTL for 4MB cable and ~£12 to BT for my landline at the moment. I'm considering moving to a VM TV/BB/Phone package over summer, but ideally I'd like to keep 4MB (L) internet, or possibly even move up to 10MB (XL).

What sort of deal can I expect to get with Phone (M), TV (L) and Broadband (L/XL)?

[edit] Forgot to add, I've been with NTL about 8 months (since June 2006).

[edit] Might as well ask here, I have 2 more questions! 1) Can I keep my BT phone number? 2) Is V+ the only option to receive HDTV signals, or can the standard box do that as well? And if so, what outputs do they have?

Cheers,

Suman

jommy999 01-03-2007 04:35

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

TV XL
Phone line rental ( normal one no weekend free call or anything)
Internet XL

i used to pay full price but after NTL mess my bill up last year ( my one month bill came more than £100 ) but i got credit back to my account at the end. therefore they been give me special offer since then as £48

ps i still pay for £5 handing fee at the moment so all my package come as 48+5 = £53

Not jealousy at all, we could all ring up retentions and pay next to nothing for our services.

Imagine if everyone done this, what kind of service would we all get? a pretty poor one to be honest.

Im paying £70 for 10Meg and Family Pack or whatever its called now, and im more than happy as my service is absolutely brilliant!

I believe in paying a good price for a good service, fair enough if peoples service is not up to scratch then yes ring retentions, but if your service is working properly, pay the price for it.

At the end of the day, its good there are people that pay full price, if everyone got these cheap deals, the amount of money invested would be a lot lower and there would be no 20/50MB upgrades for instance.

So you should thank us folks that pay proper prices for our services as without us you would be up the spout. :D

Why don't you go on two for £20 or three for £30, and I think you pay the difference in the cost of the broadband speeds.

Yes - you should be able to teleport your BT number, assuming you're not moving out the area.

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

Nope, I couldn't! We aren't allowed to stick things on our flats, so that's Sky out of the question. And when I was on ADSL, my line attenuation was 60dB+ and I had loads of CRC errors and stuff (eventually ended up suddenly dying one day, which is when I got sick of it and switched to NTL which has been solid as a rock ever since).

I'm actually happy with just freeview, but if VM are going to throw in free DTV with their phone line then who am I to refuse :D

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

Erm...not as posh as you lot but get -

Some phone stuff (rental and evening I think - hardly ever use it!)
BB - 1 Meg (Slow but ok for browsing)
TV (All VM channels, no Sky premium stuff - 120 odd channels of crap :D)

£20 for all. I called to cancel (yeah right - wanted a better deal!)

Think that's pretty good, although I have to see my bill. Used to get billed for TV and phone on paper and BB on email...will see if they really do the whole lot for £20...but to my understanding that's the case.

I might call again with recent events.....my set top box is 5 years old...and might not have anything to do with that, but can NEVER use interactive..it's awful!!!

So, now what happens if this is realised? (From DS)

EXCLUSIVE: Virgin TV price rise "likely", says analyst

Tuesday, March 6 2007, 10:59 GMT

By James Welsh, International Editor
Price rises for Virgin television customers are understood to be "likely" as the company pursues a strategy of expanding its content portfolio.

At a lunch for analysts hosted by Virgin Media CEO Steve Burch yesterday it was revealed that the company expects to return to net customer additions in the second quarter of the year, with churn following the departure of Sky's basic channels expected to be relatively limited. It is understood that although call volumes to Virgin's call centres have increased since the channels were withdrawn, retention deals offered by customer service agents have been effective at persuading customers to stay with the company.

One of the analysts present at the meeting indicated that price rises for television services were considered "likely", with drops in phone prices and no change in broadband pricing expected. A Virgin Media spokesperson who was not present at the presentation told Digital Spy today that the company doesn't "have any current plans to increase TV prices" but indicated that news regarding phone prices would emerge shortly.

The indication of a possible rise in TV prices was accompanied by news of the company's interest in building its own content offerings. A desire to work closely with - but not acquire - Setanta Sports was mentioned, and it is understood that Virgin Media is in discussions with ITV to include film and soap content on the cable operator's video on demand service.

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

A word of warning to everyone adjusting their deals at the moment.

I phoned up on saturday, and after a few conversations arranged a new package at a new price (reduced TV, increased BB - marginally cheaper price).

The TV changes came through, but no change in BB speed, so phoned up again last night. It turned out that the package that they thought I was now on, and the package that I had been told I was now on did not match (no increased BB, and a slightly lower price). I was not best pleased, apparently is all being sorted out now, but I am still waiting for a call regarding the engineer coming out.

In summary, you may not actually (in VMs systems) be on the deal that you think you are. Make sure you get the persons full name and department and record the call if possible.

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

Umm well all this talk of what offers people are getting is a bit pointless now..

As virgin have put a stop to rolling credits, which means customer can only now go on the bundle deals....

So all these people that are getting there prices reduced to silly amonts with credits each months, once they run out its tough. we can't apply them anymore and you will have to pay the same as everyone else.

about time in my opinion

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

Spot on Matty. I rang CS Monday to confirm that my VIP package would still be fitted on 16/03/07 as I had read on here that there might be a strike by engineers and as I had booked holiday I was checking to see if I should change my dates. A very pleasant young lady answered quickly and politely and even asked if I wanted to be phoned back as I was using the 0845 number.

After confirming that my dates were OK she asked if there was anything else she could help me with and I told her that I had had problems with my Prem Plus at the weekend and also my 10MB BB was intermittently slow. She apologised for the problem and said she was authorised to credit £7.00 to my account and suggested I ring 51 and report my BB fault.

When I said to her that I wasn't chasing a refund she seemed genuinely surprised. I got the feeling that the staff at CS must dread answering the phones now because it is almost certainly going to be someone asking for " A DEAL".

I am more than happy now that there is a (fair)fixed price for packages (something that has happened only recently) and if VM are to improve their services then we should pay the correct price for them. So come on everyone, if you have good service accept that and leave the phone lines free for people with genuine problems.

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

I resisted the temptation to phone and try blag a deal, was quite happy swithching to VIP which saved me nearly £30 per month and gave me movies + sport.

Today I recieved my first bill since VM launch and switching to VIP. Made interesting reading ;)

In the section for refunds + discounts, it says I've had partial months service from 15 January to 17 March -£86.91 :D

Looking through all the bits that make up the package, they've now added Talk Unlimited :) When I switched VIP only included Talk International and Talk Mobile.

So after all the deductions, with all our calls, several PPV movies, etc, I'm left with a bill for £30 :D

Has anyone else had these kind of discounts on bills?

So all these people that are getting there prices reduced to silly amonts with credits each months, once they run out its tough. we can't apply them anymore and you will have to pay the same as everyone else.

about time in my opinion

If Mattyshef is VM staff, one look at the language construct speaks volumes.

If VM stop discounting, do you people seriously think you're going to see any extra money??

Which part of the phrase "food chain" don't you understand?

Yes I have, mine showed a credit of £40+ but they rang me yesterday to say they had "cocked up" (my words) the bill and they had applied too many discounts!! So they then bamboozled me with figures till I gave in, but then rang retentions, complained about CS inefficiency and got a much better deal. So watch out for that call!

Just rung virgin and got a good deal.

I used to have Sky entertainment pack with Sky Sports for £37 and Virgin for XL Broadband £25 so was paying £62pm!!

Earlier in month ditched sky and got the 2 for £20 TV & BB with Virgin, just rung and said if they could do an offer on sports as Sky Sports News had gone from Virgin and they gave me:

TV XL
BB M
All Sky Sports

for £30pm for a year.

I'm chuffed as its miles less than the £62pm i was paying!!

Rolling Credits are credits that the system applys automatically each month when the bills are produced. So I some one say I'll give you ten pound off for 6 months it would be a rolling credit thats applied.

How does my language construct effect how I do my job. I work in a call centre I use my voice and just to point out I've got A levels in Economics, Business Studies and Computer Science and currently at Uni.

Only predefined ones set by the powers that be, The staff have had the right to make the decisions taken away from them.

But no qualifications in English. I always thought that for a customer facing position, that would be a primary consideration....Oh, just remembered the Indian call centres, cancel that!

As to the discounts people get, why should you care? You won't see any more money if it stops, not that it will stop soon.

A product is only worth what people will pay for it, and part of any product is customer service.
VM have a way to go yet before they can demand a premium.

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

Does this sound about right for the price.

Bill is £70

From the bill I can see

XL TV
L Broadband
Sky Sports
no idea what the phone option is.

Is that a good deal for what we get and could we get cheaper ?

Re: What are you on and How much you Paying?

I think I've been getting ripped-off...although it's probably my fault for not checking exactly what bundle I WAS on and what was available! the latest bill, which I got this morning was for just short of ninety quid comprising;
Family pack tv
Phone line rental
4MB broadband
Sports and Movies
and just over nine pounds worth of phone calls.

Rang them and got the VIP deal for £85. So, not only do I have to pay less but I get more for what I DO pay. And I'm quite happy with the deal. Although, I do have to admit that I was kinda hoping I'd get a deal like some of the people on here...I was hoping to get the full package for around £10 per month for the next 12 months. With unlimited phone calls to mobiles and premium rate numbers. 50mb broadband. Oh yeah, and unlimited week-end sex with Halle Berry and Reese Witherspoon.

I posted this yesterday, but had no replies, maybe I should have posted here. Appologies if you have read this previously!

I have looked through all the threads of people getting deals from Virgin, people complaining about not getting certain channels etc and I was wondering if the current deal/contract I have is a good one. Of course we do miss sky 1, but its no big deal and we can live without it LOL
Anyway, here is what I get. Any advice or comments will be much appreciated. I guess the one thing I could improve on would be the Broadband, but they will probably ask for more money LOL

TEW & BB L & TV XL
Talk Evening & Weekends
Telephone Line Rental
= £26.00 a month

Anyone tell me what SACM is on my bill too ?

cheers
