Does your remote control fail to respond ?

This is the single most annoying fault with V+ at present. Does anyone know if there are plans to fix this, at the very least (as well as other problems).

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

I have found that since the Virgin update my remote has stopped responding more frequently. It seems as if there is upto a 45-60 second delay in button presses. The box catches up with all the last button presses.

Before the Virgin update the TVDrive (silver box) was a beauty!!

I'm not getting cheesed off with it as that isn't going to help the situation I just hope a s/w update comes soon to resolve the issue.

I'm ex NTL for the record, in SG1. Stevenage , Herts.

I was in exactly the same position as you.Since the Virgin update the remote lag was horrendous!

Last night I formatted the hard drive :Yikes: and since then it has been miles better!Lost all my recordings but IF it makes the remote problem better itll be worth it!

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

From Virgin: Customer with the PVR may be experiencing slow responses from the remote control. This due to issues with the UK1 EPG Code and will be resolved with the introduction of UK2 EPG Code. Resolved by 24.02.07.

That could be the reason why!

Thanks for that.Interesting to know.

My format has helped the problem no end but it would be nice for this problem to be sorted once and for all along with the frame skipping on live tv when you have watched a recording while you are recording.

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

In contrast to the general direction of this poll, we've found the control much more responsive overall than it ever used to be when running the TW software.

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

In Islington, N.London my V+ remote seems no different than before (touch wood), the usual slow response times after midnight whilst the EPG upgrades.
The odd times in the past, a reboot seemed! to help, or could have just been co-incidental or in the mind.

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

Weirdness I get using my remote is when you press the info button and the screen goes to Delay TV!

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

I had V+ HD installed on Saturday 10th. The engineer informed me that the remote can be slow to respond so to be patient. Do not repeat your button presses or do others as the system can then be overloaded with all the different button requests and might then do a wobbler. I have been very patient and therefore had no problems with my box. All functions working OK so far.:D

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

The most annoying problem is being stuck on FF x32. The other delays I can cope with (ie I'll press FF twice, if nothing happens, I press PLAY straight away to negate the effect) but when the FF x32 problem happens it's a right pain in the backside.

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

This is actually happening to my ex-NTL box, so it seems it not specific to V+

Do you think it's just a Virgin Media fault?

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

We got a new Samsung box to replace our old Pace unit quite some months ago after it decided to start taking several hours to update itself  The remote has played up periodically since then and has probably been getting worse recently to be honest. We thought it might just be the batteries but soon ruled that out so it's kind of reassuring to know it's not just us :)

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

Hi. I got my ntl TVDrive in Notts on 24 Jan :) after only a 10 day wait. Imagine my joy when I discovered it was a full HD box with all the future-proofed connections I'd ever need and it's 1 recordable channel better than SkyHD! :D

Initially everything was working quite well, except for:
  • a little bit slow when changing channel with +Ch and -Ch
  • some recordings failed to playback
  • box crashed/hung a few times :o:
  • occasionally slow response from remote
  • box hangs when trying to access on-demand :Yikes:
But on-the-whole TVDrive is infintely superior to the old Samsung 2100 and I've been waiting for the cable equivelent of Sky+ for far too long so was willing to put up with these "teething troubles".

BUT, since the Virgin Media switchover last week, things have become slower and slower and not just the RC. All-in-all I've now had to reset the TVDrive over ten times 3 weeks! I never had that much of a problem with the Samsung.
  • Anyone else switch their box on and have no sound? It's only fixable by resetting the box (again). TV volume is on and not muted, cables are connected properly etc. etc.
  • Why does my TV Guide go totally blank occasionally?
  • Why doesn't the "Guide" button go straight to the full TV Guide instead of giving me the pop-up channel now and next box? :(
  • Why can't I hide/re-order the un-subscribed channels in the full TV Guide? :(
  • Why can't I change the order of my Favourites? :(
  • I love that fact that I can now properly control the TV volume thanks to the new RC :D
I'll grudgingly give TVDrive 4 out of 5, but it could so easily have been 5/5. Bring on the software update!

P.S. WHY CAN'T THE SCART OUTPUT S-VIDEO???? (My TV has one RGB/Composite Scart and one S-Video/Composite Scart, but is otherwise a bl00dy good Panasonic. DVD player is currently relegated to S-Video).

I voted on this last night (it even said i'd already voted when i reviewed it)- where'd it go? - but for the record - yup mine freezes

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

You need to be patient with VOD, I find - it takes an age to search for the programme and then deliver it....approach I take is get the kettle on whilst it does its thing.

My counter is also very weird from time to time : stops counting - eg Watchdog only lasted 20 minutes according to my counter, yet it was clearly 30 mins. Only happens occasionally, mind.

Hi Steve. What "format" are you talking about? How? etc.

Hi Bob,

I wiped the hard drive clean.Press home then hold play for 5 secs then press Tvdrive/v+ button then press channel down(-) on the remote 4 times ,it will then format.Bear in mind you will lose all of your recordings and planned recordings!

Up until last night my TV Drive/V+ had been ok but then it went back to its old ways again!Remote freezes every 60 secs or so!

If you've got no recordings you dont mind losing then it might be worth a try but otherwise in view of my experience id wait until the fix on the 24th.

I reported this fault to Virgin on the day of the software upgrade at which point they seemed unaware of it.However when I rang back last night they confirm they are aware of it and it will be fixed by 24/02/2007.

They told me that if the problem still exists after 4pm on the 24th,power down the box and leave unplugged for 5 mins, then repower the box and leave it for 10 mins without using it.

I haven't had the no sound problem you describe but the On Demand is very hit and miss.I couldnt access it at all over the weekend,it was then ok Mon night but early evening last night it kept hanging them rebooting my box!

You can "hide" the unsubscribed channels as long as you have set up your favourites. When in the full tv guide press the "fav" button and the full guide remains with just your favourite channels displayed.

You can also just press the "fav" button while watching TV and this brings up the favourites guide which lists the next 4 hours or so for each channel individually.

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

I've had this problem since I started testing the box back in October, after a few updates it did sort its self out a bit but the last week it has been getting worse again.

Its mostly from around 11pm onwards that it start and get really frustrating!

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

I got my V+ box today, and although it's a huge improvement over my old Pace box, this problem is pretty annoying. I was watching one of my recorded programmes, then fast-forwarded through the adverts. The box decided to take that opportunity to stop accepting the RC input, and by the time it started responding it had fast-forwarded to the end!

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

I've now done my second reformat and no difference - remote is still as flakey. Annoying thing is I had this problem when I first got the box at the beginning of December but it had sorted itself out until the new EPG download since when its been as bad as ever. Roll on the 24th!

Re: Does your remote control fail to respond ?

hi
i did the full format and it did appear better for a while but gradually (could be as more recording on hd) its getting worse and it nearly as bad as it was b4 (not causing box to crash though) and i have had the lose of sound a few times shame as b4 update box had been great
