Same here in Northants. We had the virgin code drop in the night and now the box is dead slow.
|
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
From experiance anytime there is a code drop the boxes take a wee while to settle down.

Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Ive thrown my dummy out of the pram this morning after my update thats killed my box and ive got an engineer coming out to test this pile of crap this afternoon. If this isnt resolved ive told Virgin media that they can take this useless paperweight out of my house to which they told me they would charge me for the year. I laughed in their face stating offcoms 3 day to fix ruling (I first reported tv drive problems in Jan) and trading standards goods and services must be fit for purpose. All the spouting about a new firmware fixing the problem is pish. Ive never known a motherboard slow down or work funny for an hour or 2 after a flash is rediculas
---------- Post added at 11:19 ---------- Previous post was at 11:12 ---------- Ive just noted on demand is now not available and the menus are now working so maybe they have found a problem and are going to fix it maybe just maybe |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Mines working much better now. New software looks quite good too. The icing on the cake is their are now two on demand HD films which it says are free. Am watching Pirates of the carribean now.

Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
i not got the v+box is it worth geting
|
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
I found the Virginmedia update had applied over night and the V+ box didn't respond to well after checking the system settings so reset the V+ box. I then found the V+ box reset itself when I selected on demand. After the second reset the V+ box responded much quicker. Both the EPG and the remote control have been very quick. I'm at work at the momoent but look forward to checking out the updated V+ box later tonight.
I like the new colour scheme. When are the standard STB boxes getting updated? I have a Samsung 2110 box with the old flavour scheme. |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Mine is slow too.
Maybe a reset would sort this out? but my electric ran out this morning also, and it went slow at 5am when I was still up. Gonna try a few diagnostics and see... |

Its all being done by area and STB make/model so that there aren't any problems. However if anyone gets a new install from today or a STB then it will already have the UK2(Virgin TV) epg on the box. |

Anyway since the EPG upgrade I have lost previous recordings - including BSG, very angry -(error code 2056), remote is slow to respond, recordings start but I still receive TV picture, and i've had to reboot twice already. What is going on? The box worked fine before today. Call it Virgin Media, NTL, I don't give a ****, just give me a product that works? Or at least don't break something that was working well. |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Same here, just got home and I have freezing pictures and constant lockups!!!!!!!
|
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
same here in leicester the remote locks and is just so slow have reset it 4 times today, had the box for nearly 2 months and never had to reset hope they sort it out soon on a more positive note it does look better (when am not waiting for it to reboot)

Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Now i got the new firmware this morning i just did a format of the hard drive, If any one wants to do this just press home then hold play for 5 seconds then press channel down on the remote 4 times then it will format, you will see ftr on the front when it formats,
Now lets see if it sorts the problems out, |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
V+ box installed last week. Seemed to be going OK, but this morning not working.
Message said service not available, try later. By the afternoon, still not working so phoned NTL (Virgin). Was told to press reset button and then guy said we needed to reconfigure my hard drive – then phone went dead. Not too happy aftre 25 mins to then be cut off but rang again and this time, aftre just 20 mins, was then told by someone else that technician would need to come out. This will not be until Monday PM, earliest they can do it. Have been reading the Forum and wondered whether I should be Reformatting the Hard Drive Instructions, which seems easy to do. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Wel since i did reformat all is working fine now:)
|
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Looks like I haven't got the firmware...
I haven't got a clue where to find out but I know that the application version I have is 11.1.8_ukcable. That's probably it. So what I'm gonna do now is put everything I want on DVD and then I won't lose anything... |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Wow. Decided to give it a go. Reformatted, thanks to links on this site...and yes, it now works!!
Why on earth couldn't they have told me that today, having spoken to two persons and wasted an hour of time, as well as them sending someone out this Monday to fix the problem. Seems like Mr Branson has some training issues. |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
We all have our uses... lol
|
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
I've had the new firmware for a while now. Even before I received that the remote control issue went away. It came back eariler tonight but it seems to be behaving itself now.

I received the new software this morning.Pre-update my only niggles were the frame skipping and remote lagging at midnight(only ever happened for me at this time) Since the update today,Ive had to reset several times and even had to unplug at one stage. The remote lagging is now a permanent feature? If I surf the TV guide it freezes every minute or so? Steve |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Well, mine completely froze up at 5, and the remote went AWOL.
Still no Red Button or Sky Movies 9 which is really Peeing me off... I don't know what else to do, but I am deleting all my HDD stuff in the next 2 hours. Just Shameless to record onto DVD after another Hour of WWE, then a format etc. However, I don't recall seeing 'format' as an option... so how do I do that then? and also, somewhere else, I saw what reset you can set it to do... warm reset etc... how can that be changed also? And did the new firmware require you all to rechange your pin? mine did. it reset back to 1234 so I had to do it again. My recordings stayed put, though. |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Mine has gone completely shagged.
Its got to the point where I have formatted the hdd. then it rebooted. now its completely unresponsive, and it does all the remote tasks in short bursts, about 2 minutes each burst. now? its in standby with a picture still showing. I've completely pulled the plug on it. On demand is temporeraly unavailable, and I should call 151 (isnt it 150) from my V phone. lol this is funny... ---------- Post added at 04:37 ---------- Previous post was at 04:25 ---------- Ok. So I gave it a minute unplugged, plugged it back in, it powered up and went to Sky Sports News. Left it for a further 2 minutes, pressed Standby and it took 40 seconds to respond. its now in standby, and I have pressed on. its now took another 45 seconds to boot back up, and display no program information, and no sound coming out of the speakers. the info bar is now stuck on the tv, looking like a bumble beè displaying no information. the clock just changed from 4.31 to 4.33, (yes... that's right... Its time travel) and I'm still waiting... ooo... 4.34. No time jump there... tick tock... still no information. remote still unrespomsive for 45 seconds. well, this is great! I'm so happy! woohoo! No TV service is exactly what I pay £70 a month for! oooo another time jump! it went to 4.35 for 2 seconds and then 4.36. ha ha ha. I'm going insane now. Excuse me while I throw the box out the window. ---------- Post added at 04:45 ---------- Previous post was at 04:37 ---------- ok. were fine now. EPG is still slow, waiting for press red on BBC... still showing the wait box in the bottom corner, and now that box has disapeared with no sign of BBC interactive via press red. sky movies 409 will probably not work at this time of night, but, no doubt I still can't use that. on the blower later to get this crap sorted... locked up again. I'm leaving it to rest now. off to bed. hope you had a laugh reading this. I'm now going to cry myself to sleep and frustrate my senses on how wonderful the new Virgin Media Service is, and how I'm reeping the benefits! hurrah! |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning

My remote lagging is now every 60 seconds!Did either of you two have this problem before the reformat and if so can you confirm it cured it? Steve |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
I had all sorts the box kept locking up and had to be reset every 10-15min and the had remote lag for a 60 seconds or more and it locked up if i was playing in the menus,

I rang cust faults and they are aware of the problem and said it will be sorted "soon".I don't think the lady I spoke to really understood my problem was unique to an upgraded box though! The remote lagging is a known issue but not this bad! Steve |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
I reformatted mine and has been fine.
I issue that arose last night was using the guide the small picture went black, this then appeared to be the case on all channels, even thought the guide and all menus worked. Reset the box and was ok again, only problem was I was recording a movie, so messed up my recording!! |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Mine seems ok now.
No improvement in the EPG speed, or channel changing. The interactive services need enabling by Customer Services and mine wasn't, so that's that problem sorted out. Just waiting on them coming through, so I can browse the football news while watching the Beeb... not that anything good is on the Beeb anyways.... lol |

Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Nope.
Was on Phone for 90 mins. Went to 3 separate Indian people who didn't have a clue about V+, then got through to an english woman, who put my through to Scotland, and a V+ trained woman... This woman, sent the signals again, but they aren't here. I called at 3pm and asked the same thing, and the dude said 1 hour, but usually instantly. I will be booking TNA in, and if it doesn't record it, I'm getting rid. lol I'm calling up again tomorrow and stating I'm not paying for not being able to watch Movies 9, or access content which is available to me via other means. A useful note: In one of the menus, under More TV, you can access Interactive menus for Living TV and the Bbc amongst others, but I want to simply press red... and I can't. Good job this isn't a Sky Sports Interactive problem. I'D rather not have that than for it to be there, but be unaccessable. Driving me mad. ---------- Post added at 03:52 ---------- Previous post was at 03:49 ---------- Oh great, its starting again. No info on channels, no response on remote, no ability to power off. funny... I didn't have any problems before launch day. just no interactive... ---------- Post added at 04:27 ---------- Previous post was at 03:52 ---------- Oh dear... the countup is now on. its pretending I have pressed pause, and the timer has come on the LCD on the front... but I haven't. I'm watching BBC 1, as I have been since the thing cocked up, so I pressed pause for real. Now, Please Wait, just loading... its confused itself. It was resting, but I woke it up, and that happened. this gets funnier and funnier. I might start a blog of all these problems. lol |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Since reformatting the box everything seems to be fine. Navigating through the menus is a breeze, on demand and interactive works, and the only slight grumble was the midnight remote lag, but this was no where near as pronounced as before. Having said this I haven't recorded anything since reformating and am still a bit peeved about losing all my previously recorded content.

midnight lag is just as bad, remote lock-ups worse BBCi was working before still working but no real improvements to be seen. |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Well I took the plunge and formatted yesterday!
It has made a massive difference to the remote locking. It was locking every 60 seconds and since the format it hasnt locked once. Only time will tell Steve |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
mine has locked up about 5 times this morning and rebooted 3 times by its self
|
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Ive had no on demand since saturday.
Have rang NTL/Virgin and they just said that on demand is hit and miss whether it works or not! Today is my last day to return my TV Drive and Im really tempted to send it back. Its a great shame because it has so much potential! Ill think carefully! Steve |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Noticed my V+ box rebooted itself this morning after checking what films were on Film Flex.
Still it's new and there must be plenty of bugs to iron out!! |
Re: V+HD box locking up after new firmware this morning
Now after reseting my TV DRIVE v+hd after a few min it locks up and can not change channel or nothing,
