Well, Telewest always beat the pants off NTL, so that makes sense...

I suspet people are getting excited because they think there will be more fundamental changes than the EPG.

I think over the coming months its gonna be a damn sight more than a new EPG.

If it was just that, they would have launched VM last year when NTL brought Virgin Mobile. Today is a BIG day for UK cable (probably the biggest day ever), hence some excitement and hopes for the future are to be found.

Re: Happy Virgin Media day to you all

Yes, this is probably the biggest day in the history of UK cable services. Certainly bigger than ntl's acquisition of Cable & Wireless's consumer division, for example.

Combined with the launch of new services like VOD and the TV Drive, and with broadband generally ticking on nicely with 10mb available in most areas, things look rosy for cable services. For the first time in ages the TV service is getting close to Sky and is realising its potential.

Let's hope that the ongoing changes in the company (don't expect it all to happen overnight, today is just one more part of the process) can finally allow the cable industry to realise its potential and start making some money!

I'm not currently 100% convinced by the marketing for the new brand, or even the name, but I'm fully behind it and hope that is a success.

Wouldnt that seem stupid when NTL have been giving 4mbit users 512k uploads today? (only certain areas right now)

Too pricey for me, but I'll probably get a Virgin Mobile with 300 mins for a tenner.

You still have to enter your account number to apply for that offer I see, and then it takes to a seperate Virgin Mobile site. But the UK section of THAT site features the new VM logo and offers for TV, Broadband and Home Phone on the front page.

Have I missed something? Did something happen overnight? Were you lot up overnight waiting for the big changeover? The Virgin Media homepage looks better than the old Blueyonder hpmepage but will it contain more up-to-date news? I give it the thumbs up at first glance. ;) I can still check my email from there even though I use outlook express but my wife and daughter delighted for they never use oulook express. I haven't decided if I will use the new email address when they introduce it. I had a quick look and it seems that my principal address is still a blueyonder one and it can't be changed. Enough for now. Must get my daughter up for school. Life goes on. Looking forward to whatever comes. :D

All your emails are ready and waiting for you to open. You can pick them up anytime from our new Virgin Media site. And for now your email address will stay the same.
For now? I thought they'd said it wouldn't change if you didn't want it to?

They need to NOT change existing email addresses. My experience with other companies is that forcing an email change on people can be the final push that makes them change supplier, as it's often having to change addresses that puts people off.

Yes, I thought that too LOL.

Woo hoooo, It is finally here. Not a bad homepage really.

If you are an NTL customor and you logged on this morning did you all get your free Virgin balloon flight to Australia and signed picture of Richard Branson ?
No ?
Oh what a shame lol.......would have been nice to get a freebie to welcome us :)

Re: Happy Virgin Media day to you all

This was an ideal opportunity for ntl/telewest/virgin to compete with sky and carphone/talktalk.

So what do they do? They keep their pricing the same as before.

All they really needed to do was create a package like carphone/talktalk £20/month for phoneline, unlimited uk calls & broadband and everyone would be happy.

I admit their 2mb broadband is probably better than carphone/talktalk 8mb broadband
BUT
Their TV basic package is not much better than Freeview as far as I can see.
There are plenty of cheap mobile phone alternatives.

So what are they offering new customers?

AND

What are they offering existing customers?

Same here. No fancy new EPG, just that annoying bloke and the family on Channel 890 being replaced with 2 annoying guys on Channel 999

A very disappointing web site. The upload speeds are listed incorrectly - shabby.

And this error is just criminally pathetic:-

Where do you live?
Depending on where you live, there are two ways to get Virgin Phone

By fibre optic cable (on cable)
Or down your phoneline (non-cable)

NOTHING HAS CHANGED EXCEPT THE NAME - IT'S JUST A REBRANDING.
