Thought they'd be more talk about this, unless I've not looked hard enough. I'm tempted to call them tonight.

Thing is, I'm not that interested in the extra phone offers (just need talk local weekends and evenings).

Compare it to visiting the pub, cinema etc and you'll find its considerably cheaper. :)

but, yes, when you look at it over the year, it does seem very expensive.

That is an excellent deal, but I cannot afford that much a month lol.

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

It does seem a lot to pay per year, but then if you price up the non-discounted cost of this package, it would come to over £120/month by my reckoning (!) So whilst £85 is expensive, it is a significant discount.

How do I sign up for this? Got full tv package, Tv drive, extra set top box and 4mb BB and together paying more than 85 so this sounds like a good deal to me!

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

This does indeed sound like a good deal (compared to getting everything separately, at least). Yet, looking at the NTL website, I can't find any imformation about it whatsoever.

Can anyone help me out?

grabbi 02-02-2007 15:05

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

...then consider your Credit Limit, which is automatically £100 .

So, you have £15 for PPVs, Football Games, Movies, On Demand, Phone Calls...

I have most of them already, yet I'm no where near £85.

Something more near £60.

Talk Unlimited - Got it
Talk International - I've got 1 mate in the USA, and theres a little thing called MSN, Email and VoIP.
Talk Mobile - Got it
Broadband Size: XL - Got 2MB
TV Size: XL (Family/Supreme Pack) - Got
All Sky Sports (1,2,3,Extra)/Movies (1-9/10) -Got it
V+ HD Box - Getting it tommorow...
Second standard STB- Getting it tommorow.

I still get the 3 for £30 discount, plus a further £8.50 from a previous continuous Goodwill deduction.

So, altogether, without the Goodwill, its £63.76, add a tenner for V+ leaving £26.24 for PPV and Calls... £73.76.

:D

I often spend over £100 per month, and I never have any credit issues?

welwynrose 02-02-2007 16:02

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

interesting - I'm trying to work out my most recent charges

10mb = 34.99
Base Pack + Telephone = 22.50
Family Pack = 8.00
2nd Box = 15.00

= £80.49

Now I've swapped one box for the V+ box but kept my 2nd box so I don't think my bill has changed much - we don't actually make many phone calls £10.00 last month - so might be worth me changing

videodj 02-02-2007 16:10

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

I've currently got...

Local & Weekend - £13
TV - XL - £20.50
Movies and Sports collection £23.50
BB - XL (10Mb) - £35
V+ £10
2nd STB £5

Total - £107 - get a discount of £6.50 = £100.50 (gone up £2 since new prices).

So that deal is good, plus I'd get better call plan.

But I'm guessing it's for New customers only (as usual)

Not just for new customers. I read this thread and gave them a ring. They actioned immediately, I now get in addition to what I already had, the full Sky Sports line up, mobile & international calling plan, and all for £15 less per month thab I was paying before!!

Abs

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

Interesting offer from Virgin....I would save a grand total of £3 per month but I would gain the Sky Movies channels and 10Meg Broadband and loads of phone options which sadly, I wouldn't use often. But I'm sure my Terajet modem isn't capable of 10Meg so I would have to upgrade that before I could take advantage of this offer.

I don't really care less about the phone to be honest. I only use it for talking to people in the States now and then, the rest of the time I use the 100 free minutes on my mobile (which I will probably change to Virgin in the near future to get 300 minutes free)

Any news on Subscription VOD Movies? Having Sky Movies would be nice but it would be better if I could pay an reasonable amount per month in order to watch "hundreds and hundreds of movies right now" as Mrs. Thurman's sexy voice told me earlier :p:.

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

I think the SVoD service is just TV Choice (which in all honesty should include the music section) - I can't imagine FilmFlex adopting this approach, especially for newer movies :)

But weren't they thinking about doing this? I'm sure I read somewhere that they would charge a flat fee of £8 per month for all but the top movies from Flimflex.

It just seems odd that they can do a great deal with Sky Movies (via this VIP package) but can't with their own VOD Film service.

Bob 02-02-2007 21:25

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

I would imagine the great deal will be being made on their own services (the broadband and phone line) where they are able to trim their margins. There will be no bargaining on the Sky Sports/Movies side of things. It is likely you will still be paying full price for these, but this is absorbed by reducing the cost of the broadband and landline services within the bundle :)

As for SVoD, yeah I remember that a good while back on Digital Spy. Granted it was never an official press release from NTL, someone just happened to stumble upon it, because it was removed shortly after.

Only time will tell I suppose :)

Signed up this morning. First chap I spoke to didn't know anything about it, telephoned back and a very nice lady checked and confirmed it was available and then went through a process of applying each discount. I've done the sums and this seems like a very good deal to me.

Damn, I thought it was official. :(

Pity that, because IMO, a SVOD Movies package would kill off Sky Movies on Cable. I wonder what Filmflex thinks about this VIP package? Surely they wouldn't be happy about customers buying less of their movies on demand because they can watch Sky Movies.

Still, this VIP package looks great. But will there be some sort of Super-VIP package which includes the Mobile phone option as well?

I just phoned up, and a nice Scottish lady at CS sorted it all out for me in around 5 minutes..

I was paying around £100 a month before for all that, but with only 4Mb broadband.. so I save £15, get a better phone plan, and 10Mb broadband.

:D

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

OK...that was interesting.

Good thing I called to upgrade because during the package change, they realized I was being overcharged for broadband (it wasn't showing up as such on my bill).

But getting NTL to acknowledge that the Terajet modems don't support 10 Meg was waayyyy too painful and time consuming. I've got an engineer coming out next week and he better have a new modem with him as I requested.

Still.......I got Sky Groovy Movies for £3 per month and various phone options. :)

Hi All,
yes its true. I have just come off the phone (150). As of now I have the package. This package adds the international and mobile, sports and films to my current package and it saves me money. Its was no brainer for me.

Thanks,

Gary

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

I called at around 2pm. I explained what the VIP package was and it was 'added'. I have just called back and told it does exist (I know) and that I couldn't have it yet as all the discount codes are not on the system yet.

Could it be that different areas have different billing systems so some of us can't have this package yet? I know they have or are going to be migrating the billing.

I then asked her to confirm my TV Drive and 2nd STB was being charged correctly as my previous bill had them as £15 each. She said the discount codes for that are not on the system and I may have to call back when the next bill arrives for a credit until the billing is resolved.

Yes, there are still around three billing systems live at the moment, so they may not be all set up yet, espcially if you get billed seperately frot your Internet and TV packages

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

Hmmm.. pretty much 2 days after being put on this new package, and my broadband is still 4MB (the autoreg site still says I'm on the 'L' broadband package, and the modem's config confirms that I'm on the mid-level rate).

Is this kind of delay usual? Or should I just phone CS tomorrow morning to prod them into sorting it. I was under the impression that BB changes like this are almost instant.

I had considered just changing it on the autoregister site (where you can change your broadband package online), but am unsure as to whether this would screw things up royally..

Ok, just phoned CS. They say the system says I'm on 10MB, and put me through to tech support in India. The guy there says they need a precise download speed from me, which I should get by downloading a big file from www.download.com?! I tried to explain I'd looked on the autoregister site, and also in the CM logs - and it was still mid-level (ie 4MB) but.. gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Trying to get through to the guy in India was as pleasant as hacking off your own limbs with a spoon!

What a lovely start to the week.. :(

Does anyone know if this Pack is available in the portsmouth area?

Dont have a V+ box and i believe we are paying alot more than £85 a month... and i only have 2 meg internet through STB!

Nilrem 06-02-2007 00:10

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

I'm going to give them a ring in the morning, and see if it's available in my area (Luton), and if i can get it and still keep our third STB.

By my reckoning it will cost us about £5 more than we are currently paying, but give us the TV drive and full TV package :)

[edit]
One question, is there an instalation fee for the TV drive?

deathball 06-02-2007 07:10

I ordered it yesterday and I am having the vip package done today, I am also having tv drive done today as well, if you ring sales instead they know the package and will put it on for you.

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

Thanks for the tip off guys.

I have signed up. Looks a great deal.

Only one problem broadband download 10mb OK but the upload speed is the same as before. I thought the 10mb package it was 512 Kbps.

What have others got with the deal????????????

Nilrem 06-02-2007 14:08

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

I've just rang and I must say the CS/Sales people seem much more organised than they were before, if very busy.

When the guy couldn't get through to installations he took my number and rang back about 5 minutes later :)

So for £95 a month (actually a bit less than we were paying) we're getting
Virgin VIP media pack with the movies etc, + 3rd STB (I'm sure the charge for that has dropped from £15?)

We've already moved up on the TV package, but the TV drive won't be installed until the 26th unfortunately :(

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

Here is a personal bunch of Research I did, compairing against what I currently have:

For £85, you get:

Talk Unlimited (free calls to 01 and 02 numbers day or night, week or weekend, as long as you hang up and redial at 59 minutes.) Usually £25.

Talk International (a discount of original costs, for example, a call to the USA would cost 10p per minute without this add-on, but will cost 2p per minute with it. A call to Germany usually costs 23p per minute but will cost 2p with this add-on. Note: Not all countries are 2p. go to the official website for the full details.) Usually £1.50.

Talk Mobile (offers a discount of approx 39% off normal charges to Mobiles. Calls work out at 10p per min to all standard networks ex. 3 Network.) Usually £1.50.

10 MB/XL Broadband. Usually £35 (£27 new customer offer.)

XL TV w/ Sports + Movies. Usually £44.

V+ HD. Usually £10.

Multiroom. Usually £5.

For some its good, for others, such as me, its not.

I call more mobiles than Landlines, you never get 10MB even though that's the maximum, you probably get 2MB, and, of course, you still have a credit limit for your PPV Movies and Sport, which, by Default is set at £100.

You also pay for Itemised Billing, and None Direct Debit charge is now £5.

how is there a credit limit of £100? our bill is over £120 a month before any kind of PPV is used, and when I have ordered anything on PPV i have never been told I am over a credit limit

Ive seen some people saying that they pa in arrears, i dont know anything about it, but i think that some people are billed in arrears, so the bill they get on Febuardy the 1st is for Jan 1st -> feb 1st where as new clients pay in advance, so the bill they get on feb 1st is for feb 1st to March 1st, which means that our balance at the start of the month is actually -£120, so if theres a credit limit of £100, you can probably spend £220 a month on PPV does that make sense or sound possiable?

Are you really going to use £100 a month on PPV events, which would bring your final monthly bill to £220 p/m? :Yikes:

scrotnig 08-02-2007 18:57

Re: Virgin Media Vip Pack - internet gossip?

Hope I've done the right thing here....

Previously I had:

4mb on Cable modem
Family pack TV with one extra box
Phone on 5p plan

This was costing in the region of £70.
I am due a TV drive on 24th Feb which will add £10 a month to this.

So I've just changed to the VIP standard!

Broadband is already testing quite well:

1st 512K took 531 ms = 964.2 KB/sec, approx 7945 Kbps, 7.76 Mbps
2nd 512K took 532 ms = 962.4 KB/sec, approx 7930 Kbps, 7.74 Mbps
3rd 512K took 578 ms = 885.8 KB/sec, approx 7299 Kbps, 7.13 Mbps
4th 512K took 578 ms = 885.8 KB/sec, approx 7299 Kbps, 7.13 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 7618 Kbps, 7.44 Mbps

---------- Post added at 19:57 ---------- Previous post was at 19:48 ----------

Slight hiccup....my pending TV Drive install has "locked" the non-broadband parts of the account, so no discounts can be put on until after then. Therefore we're going to make the rest of the changes then...

No great hassles, it's only another couple of weeks.

Billing works the same as any company, you always pay the line rental and TV charges for the month in advance and the call charges, PPV charges the month following purchase.
