Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
Just came across this article which suggests that according to rumours Sky+ may become a subscription free service as of 12 February.
So, i was wondering, if this was to happen, do you think Virgin Media will follow by making V+ (TV Drive) free too? I'm aware that the V+ boxes also offer HD TV, but surely Virgin Media could charge a subscription just for the HD channel(s), but make the PVR functionality free. What do you guys think? PS: should this also be posted in the Telewest TV Drive forum, or maybe in the ntl:telewest General Forum? Not fully sure. Could the mods/admins move it if needed please. Cheers RileyM |
Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
If that's the case then it'll be good competition and i'm sure Virgin Media will have to compete.
A mod will move this thread if they see fit. :) |
Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
Will be interesting if this does happen. Virgin Media will have no choice but to compete.

Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
Considering only BBC is in HD on the V+ they could hardly charge for that.

Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
Sky+ subs should jolly well be free, seeing as you have to shell out over £100 quid for a box, and pay them more if it breaks.
Whereas the TVDrive or V+ (is it only time before Sky throw a wobbler over that name?) repairs/replacements are covered withthe "rental fee" |
Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
ARTHUR THE SPUR here, I have a funny feeling that this rumour could be true, Sky have to try something, as competition is growing in television as Freeview is now bringing out the same type of box, and as readers might know, you but the box and that is it, Sky get worried at someone else trying to beat them, who would have thought about freesat from Sky, at the moment l think that Cable tv is a good idea, but just keep an eye on it.

Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
They are already competing by giving you multiroom cheap

Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
This rumour has been going round ever since Sky+ was introduced. I see no reason for it to be different this time. I also notice that site doesn't give any sources, so I'd treat this with the same hefty dose of salt as all the other Sky rumours.

so the people who agree that V should compete, believe V should give the box away and provide warranties and stuff for free, and any channels that come in should be free too! tell you what, why don't we just get all the channels for free, instead of paying for them? jesus christ! |
Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
wow! this is really good if its true...
|
Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
its only because the sky box is Shizzle... lol
2 tuners and no HD? it Should be free, especially when its £199/£150 for a new one |
Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
I suppose its also no coincidence that the date of this "free" service is 12th February?

Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
My Sky+ is already free - since I have one of the premium channels, my box also cost only £49, not £199 or £100 or any of the other prices mentioned.

Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
Arthur The Spur Here, I Personally Believe, With My Experience With Sky Is That Don't Believe Them, I Was Qouted £300.00 Plus Insurance And Subscription. The Only Reason I Went To Cable Was That There Tv Drive (or Should I Say V+box Is Better)and Is Cheaper, Alright There Are A Few Hiccups.;)

Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
the sky+ crap should be free.
its all rubbish. sure, we get glitches and stuff, but I would suffer them to get a better service with a World Renound company, with VOD, 3 tuners and so on, virgin is the place to be! |

Always has been free if you have two Premiums (or, at least, it has been that way for *ages*.........). Still have to pay £10 if you don't have two Premiums though. |
Re: Sky+ To become Free? What about V+
I wouldn't be suprised if it is true.
Sky are bricking it at the prospect of Virgin media becoming number 1, With a broad spectrum of services, plus 50 Meg Broadband on trial and even 100 meg in the pipeline, nobody will be able to compete, All Virgin need to do is secure some rights for some half decent programmes and sports events, and show them on their own 'Virgin Sports' and 'Virgin Movies' and 'Virgin HD' channels and sky are dead and buried...... |

Virgin Media need to secure some top content, and they must do it soon. When that starts to happen, the intelligent user will start to realise that there is now serious competition, and true value for money is not what's faster and cheaper. Couple that with Virgin's customer savy products, and good quality support, Joe Punter will have all the choice he needs, from a brand he can trust. |
