The TV is a Mirai 27" HD Ready LCD. Got it from Pix Mania for £370. There is a 32" as well and thats around £460. However I think the 27" is big enough just now.

COD3 is really great especially in HD and dolby digital 5.1

I have also got my own little ambilight setup on the TV

Also thats not even half my DVD collection! those things swivel round and there are 3 more of them at the other end of the room. Think there are over 300 DVDs now. PS2 is hidden behind the 360 games.

Anyone else care to post theirs? Now you can see where I am playing when fragging your butts on live, lol

Play-asia.com have it for £29.25 which is where i got mine from as it's a region free game. Also Gears of War is there for £24.63 and both prices include shipping. :)

*sigh* if anyone calls me a nerd i will cry!

Here's the setup...

Non xbox stuff first. There is a Sega Multimega which cost me several quid; it's a Megadrive and Mega CD in one, but very compact compared to it's originals. Second NTL set-top box. An Amiga CD32 and underneath that there is a CD32 Elsat Promodule; this turns the CD32 into an Amiga 1200, it cost me a lot of money too.

The Xbox 360 stuff now. There is the Xbox 360 itself, it has an Xsata on top of it so i can hook it up to the PC better. There is a Joytech Xbox 360 Control Centre so i can hook other consoles up to it and run a theatre system through it all. Then next to that is the official Xbox 360 theatre system made by Pioneer hence it has circles on it too and is all in white! Notice the gap in the middle, thats for the HD-DVD player when i get it! There is the Xbox 360 Camera sitting on top of the TV and just under the TV and around it is the pioneer display which actually says Xbox 360 on it and speakers. I've loaned a couple of games out but that is most of my 360 game collection.

Lastly, there is a the 27" LCD TV.

Apologies also for the clutter! I'm messing about with a spare PC (to the right).

I might get that surround system aswell. I dont seem to have any room for it though. It looks really nice and im in need of a decent surround system. Its cheapish aswell. (My sound system at the moment is a 2 channel stereo with 4 speakers)

p.s. you can have all the speakers in front of you for 'virtual' surround i think.

Thats the thing, I want true surround sound and not virtual.

Im assuming with this unit you can use virtual surround as above, or move them around the back and set it for true surround, or is just virtual

my x360 setup is the same as my pc / workstation setup. they are all in one seeing as i dont have the room!

the hdtv is my pc's second monitor, xbox is connected to it via vga, and for scart input i've got a classic freeview (/ex ondigital nokia mediamaster)

Yeah they are supposed to go behind you, but i am lazy and use them as virtual, they bounce off the walls to try and give the same effect.

Tried to take a pic with my digicam (which I haven't used in months), only to find it doesn't seem to want to work anymore :( , so I was forced to take this horrible grainy snap with my phone.

Samsung LE26R73BDX 26" HD Ready LCD iDTV

Xbox 360 (VGA, 1360*768)

Standard Sky box (RGB SCART)

Xbox running Xbox Media Centre (Component, 720p)

Crappy old VCR (SCART)

Yamaha DSP-A5 DD/DTS 5.1 amp/receiver

The speakers either side of the TV are Tannoy MX3s. Also got a pair of B&W LM1s for rears, a Tannoy MXC centre (currently out of action :(, & a Yamaha YST-SW45 sub.

Whats the picture look like on standard definition broadcast? I want to get one eventually but when i go in the shops they always look blocky unless it's an HD broadcast.

Also does it have an equivalent aspect ratio as Sonys SMART mode where it just stretches the outside of the picture on a SD broadcast?

The SD picture quality wasn't as good as my Panasonic CRT (in the 3rd picture), and i live in quite a high signal area, usually around 90-95% signal strength. Like you said, it was pretty blocky, so i didn't bother replacing it for everyday TV viewing with my Panasonic.

Not sure about this SMART mode you're talking about. I only hooked it up to the main aerial for half an hour or so, but i didn't see any black borders or anything, it filled the whole screen up with picture.

Thanks for the info on the blocky picture. This is still the reason i won't change yet.

Smart Mode is where a SD picture is stretched out to fill a widescreen telly, but only the outside left and right edges of the picture are stretched slightly, opposed to a SD picture being completely stretched to fill the screen which i think looks terrible. And i refuse to watch a 4:3(SD) picture with black bars on a 16:9(WS) TV.

Quote:

Smart Mode
When a 4:3 picture is enlarged to the 16:9 format, some parts of the image at the top and bottom of the screen are lost. Smart Mode, a non-linear picture enlargement function, generates a full-format 16:9 picture that depicts the image data of a 4:3 broadcast.

Dunno if its the same but the NTL TV Drive has a setting of 720p Wide. Which outputs everything in 16.9 even if it is 4:3, and it doesn't look like any picture is missing from the top or bottom to me.
