Top Gear is back!

New series of Top Gear starts tomorrow!

Quote:

Ladies and gentleman, start your engines - Top Gear is back, and trust us, it’s been worth the wait.

On this week’s show Richard Hammond makes his triumphant return and talks us through his 288mph jet car shunt.

Jeremy drives Jaguar’s supercharged XKR, and compares it with its Aston Martin stablemate.

Jamie Oliver returns for another go at being a star in a reasonably priced car. But can he knock rival celebrity caterer Gordon Ramsay off the top spot?

And the presenters decide that the appalling state of British roads has become too much to bear, so they decide to take matters into their own hands and resurface a stretch of road themselves.

Flaming nightmare. I can't watch TV. I sat down with a bottle of wine, switched on the TV, and nothing but snow. Some wally has joined the house aerial cable outside with a Belling-Lee connector and a bit of electrical tape. It's all dropped apart. So no picture on the TV :( The loop aerial is hopeless. I going to have to wobble on a ladder tomorrow, and sort it, otherwise no Top Gear. I want to see how the Hamster is.

According to an interview with Clarkson in The Sunday Times, it will be the first thing to be shown so they can get it out of the way and 'get back to being nine years old again'.

grr, maybe the car owner is just peeved cos top gear wrecked his 'car' or that he might get prosecuted for building a stupid ott vehicle and letting someone else drive it after ooh what a half hour briefing?

Shadow Demon UK 29-01-2007 12:13

Re: Top Gear is back!

Well the owner did say it was partly Hammond's fault by "failing to adhere to the briefing" so he obviously did a briefing and told him what to do in the event of the car having problems. In the end it was Hammond's decision to drive the car, i doubt the owner forced him to drive it.

To be perfectly honest, its the way the owner put it to cover himself that made him seem like a "jerk" it may not have intended that way, what is certain is that Hammon wasn't prepared for any eventuallity and not being the owner of the car didn't know what to look out for "problems" I recorded last night's episode and watched the crash over a few times and you can see the Tyre about to go, and I suspect if he had shut off the engines and launched the parachutes (if he had been aware) then it would have been a million times less serious. But the owners of those sorts of vehicles know what is going on, they know when something is wrong, but Hammond only ever had 3 goes in it.

In my opinion he's not at all, he's right. All that he is basically saying is that the crash could have been prevented or wouldn't have been so bad if Hammond had done what he had been told to do in his briefing. The owner is saying that Hammond 'stood on the brakes' when he was told not to do that. I don't think he's having a go at Hammond but just saying that the crash wasn't his fault.

I've watched it a few times (and it gives me the chills every time), I can't see what Hammond could have done differently. There was very little warning that the tyre was going to delaminate, it was a catastrophic failure. I wonder to what speed the tyres were designed to go.

Don't miss episode two tonight!

Quote:

It’s business as usual this week on Top Gear.

We perform a public service by smashing a really big train into an aging French people carrier. Trust us, it’ll all make sense when you see it.

James makes the definitive bid to rid himself of his ‘Captain Slow’ nickname, by attempting to max-out the 252mph Bugatti Veyron at Volkswagen’s top secret test-track.

An A-list Hollywood star comes to our studio and has a ride in our distinctly C-list reasonably priced car.

And Jeremy, Richard and James try to decide on the best small coupe by taking the latest offerings from Audi, Mazda and Alfa Romeo to two of their natural habitats – a design museum and a golf course.
Sounds good! :) :tu:

Without a doubt the Alfa was the best looking. Indeed Alfa have got it spot on with their current series of cars in that you instinctively know you are looking at one. So many other manufacturers car's are non descript and seem to blend into each others marques. But as for performance that Alfa just didn't cut it, from what is supposed to be a stable of sporting thoroughbreds :(

So what happened to the people carrier versus train then :erm:

Great to see Hammond back but he is a shadow of his former self as his eyes are "wide awake" shall we say.

Am bemused though as to how he is allowed to drive and originally thought last week some of the footage must have been filmed prior to his accident but tonights show proved that wrong.

I thought you had to wait at least 6 months after any kind of brain injury before being given or getting your licence back.

Although tonights show may have been cleverly edited as his spin in the RX8 was on a test track and not much close ups on public roads.

As far as I am aware most footage from the early epsiodes of this series will have been from before the accident, or shot in the last few weeks. I am sure I read in the papers a few weeks back that he was just recently given the all clear to drive again and, was photographed riding a Motor bike and also filming his first Top gear scenes showing that he was back driving again.

Back to this week. The whole show had me in stitches, but the scenes of them getting chased and stoned by a bunch of rednecks was too funny. However it must have been pretty scary.

Episode tonight:

Quote:

Strap yourselves in ladies and gentlemen, because this week's Top Gear is even more power-crazed than usual.

Jeremy goes seriously schnell as he takes the latest 720bhp creation, from mentalist German manufacturer Brabus for a spin on the test track.

We give Porsche's latest 911 Turbo flagship a full shake down, and see whether the everyday supercar has become a bit, well, everyday.

And Richard and James embark on Top Gear's biggest ever challenge, as they try to turn a Reliant Robin into a space shuttle. Trust us, you really, really don't want to miss this.

Plus comedy actor Simon Pegg will be joining us in the studio and doing his bit on the test track in our reasonably priced car.

You're right about that car, if Stig had problems there's no hope for
us mere mortals. What's Clarkson got against motorbikes, he didn't meet the OCC guys in the States last week did he. :D

Series 9 Episode 4:

Quote:

Don’t adjust your sets folks, because this week Top Gear really is going green.

On our most environmentally friendly show to date, our intrepid presenters have a go at growing their own biofuel. But to do the job properly, first they need to test some really massive tractors on the Top Gear test track.

We then resume normal service as Jeremy tests the latest model from the daddy of supercar manufacturers – Lamborghini.

Also, actress Kristin Scott-Thomas adds a much needed touch of class to the proceedings, as she becomes a star in a reasonably priced car.

Series 9 Episode 5:

Quote:

Top Gear has never been very good at showbiz glamour. After all, this is the show that booked Lionel Richie and then made him drive a Suzuki Liana until one of its wheels fell off. However, that's all about to change this week as our presenters have a go at building their own stretch limos.

When we drove the new Ford Mustang a few series ago, we didn't like it much. But now that the boys from Shelby have given it the once over, it's time for another look.

Also, Dr Who actress and star of West End play Treats, Billie Piper, will be joining us for a chat and a few laps of the track.

BBC have confirmed it will be back for the summer special AND a new series... And they anticipate all 3 returning...

So I don't know what Clarkson is on?

Top Gear does Comic Relief tonight!

Top Gear meets Top of the Pops, with results every bit as chaotic as you might expect.

Given their total lack of popular music knowledge, the boys ditch the conventional Top of the Pops format and instead endeavour to answer some, more, or none of the following questions:

Can McFly respond to a Top Gear challenge to write a song on the spot without using the words 'love' or 'baby'? Will Jeremy completely sabotage Supergrass and Ade Edmondson's performance with 'rock special effects'? And what's the fastest song in the charts this week?

Also, make sure you don't miss the stunning finale performance from the Top Gear house band... and a very special guest.

Anyone else think Clarkson's quip about The Stig being mistaken for a Brazilian electrician on the tube was a bit distasteful?
