Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

I'm on the look out for some good Gamecube games that I can play with my ...er, I mean my son's Wii. Have just bought an old GC plus 2 controllers and memory cards from a bloke at work, and it comes with Super Monkey Ball, a Fifa game, Super Mario Sunshine and something else. Should help keep me ...er, I mean my son busy till Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros are released.

What other Gamecube games are any good? Donkey Konga will probably be next on my list, but anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheers.

I was going to get Mario Kart - Double Dash but if Mario Kart 64 is coming out on the Virtual console i think i won't bother.

I might buy a resident evil game if i see one cheap somewhere :)

Do you need the Memory Cards or will just a controller and a game do at first ?

Re: Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

I think, to save GCN games, you need a GCN memory card or SD card - don't quote me on the SD card bit though.

As for GCN games:

Mario Kart: Double Dash
F-Zero: GX
Viewtiful Joe
Metroid Prime
The Legend of Zelda WindWaker (get the bonus disc and enjoy the old Zelda games too)
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Monkey Ball 2
Eternal Darkness
Res Evil
Super Smash Bros Melee
Soulcalibur II
Star Wars Rogue Leader II
Star Wars Rogue Leader III
Mario Party 4
Timesplitters 2
Pikmin
XIII

To name a few :D

Mario Kart is fun to play but too short, still a good game to play with friends though.
F-Zero is very fast!, quality game.

Pikmin is fun. Zelda: Windwaker is briliant.

You must own Mario Kart.

Paper Mario and Resident Evil 4 are also good.

I like mario golf. :D and mario kart is cool. I think the golf game would work better for the wii though.

Thanks all :tu: Some good suggestions of things to look for.

lauzjp, think you're right about golf on the Wii.. already the golf in Wii Sports is great (just not enough holes to play). I'm really looking forward to Tiger Woods on the Wii, or maybe Leaderboard. Both should be great.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Resident Evil 4 (BEST GAME EVARRRRRR!)
007: Everything Or Nothing
Metroid Prime + Metroid Prime 2 (Awesome games)

I would also suggest Donkey Konga 1+2 but you'll need Bongos for those :D

Already working on that one, mate.

Talking of which, would you recommend the European or American versions? The line-up of the European one seems better overall, but there's a couple of songs on the American ones which should've been on the European ones.

Re: Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

Went in to Gamestation in Swindon today and they had Donkey Konga 1 in the 2nd hand GC aisle. I asked the guy behind the counter if they had the bongos for sale as well, and he said they don't normally but someone had traded some in this morning and I could have them for free with the game. Then he even found a Donkey Konga backpack they'd traded as well - unused still with the tags on it - and threw that in too! So I got the game, bongos and backpack for £13

Re: Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

Nice deal you got there :D

Only gripe i have with the games is the fact that they don't have the proper licensed tunes.. but they don't sound toooo far from the originals i suppose. :D

Gareth 21-01-2007 12:58

Re: Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

Yeah, you can tell it's not the original artists but it's not too much of a distraction as I'm usually concentrating so hard on which bongo to hit that I don't notice :D

Found a place online that sells the bongos for a tenner, so gonna grab another one so we can do multiplayer. Gonna have to get the 2nd one now too cause the songs on that look great too :D

Can't believe I'd missed out on this game for so long

Re: Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

Heh multiplayer is such a laugh :D

Especially when it gets to the end of the tune, and you (usually) have a big drum roll to decide the rock-paper-scissors game LOL :D

No problem- went to Gamestation this morning, and bought Donkey Konga with bongos for 16.99, plus a second set of bongos for 1.99! Bargain!

Gareth 22-01-2007 16:48

Re: Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

Gonna have to visit my Gamestation again and again till they get more in... if you see any in yours, grab them for me and I'll pay you back plus shipping costs :)

Have you played it yet?

Re: Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

Nah not had chance yet mate. I'll keep an eye out for more bongos, I just went there on the off chance and they had them on the shelf for 1.99!

Are there any other Gamecube games that you have played on the Wii that you would recommend? I had a look in Game today but there wasn't much choice, i wanted to get Mario Kart but they didn't have it. I might go into Gamestation sometime this week to see if they have Donkey Konga seeing that your saying it's so good. :)

Re: Good Gamecube Games for my Wii?

I had a blast of Super Monkey Ball 2... it was fun but think it's more for younger kids.

Also played Mario Sunshine... typical Mario game, very good if you like that sort of thing (which I do :)). Also played Mario Smash Tennis, it was OK but I'd rather wait for a Wii-specific tennis game.

Lastly, had a go too at a Fifa Street Soccer game which I didn't get on with. I love Pro Evo on the XBox and it's just nowhere near as good. It's played on a much smaller pitch, with only 3 players per team, and I just didn't feel that it was responsive... it felt more like luck whenever I scored, rather than intentional.

Yeah you can't beat PES, nothing comes close. Monkey Ball is good fun. Can't wait for the Wii games to go online.

Okay, i think i might just try and get Mario Kart which i loved on the N64 and i'll try and get Donkey Konga also.

Do you need the old style controllers to play the gamecube games or are the Wii remotes okay to use?

Are Mario 64 & Mario Kart 64 coming to the Virtual Console?

IMO, they're both much better than the Cube's Mario Sunshine & Mario Kart Double Dash.

Yeah, saw some 3rd party controllers for about £6 or £7 each on the high street on the weekend. Am tempted to get a Wavebird or an equivalent, but it's a bit expensive really.

Yeah i know what you mean, you don't want to be spending your money on stuff that is for the older console, you want to be spending it on current games and accessories.
