New Virgin Guide delivered in post today

I suspect this is because Coventry is one of the areas which will get the pilot of the new EPG tomorrow, but I got a guide for 'The new Virgin TV Guide' in the post today.

Going off the screen-shots within the guide, the biggest change to the guide is the removal of the 9-box layout, in favour of the far better layout with each option in a list.

The colours are different (blue background swapped for black; White text on dark grey).....and that's it, really. It looks far better than the existing EPG.

I got mine in the post today as well and I am also in the Coventry area. Are we really getting the new epg tommorow.

Not from me......erm, too lazy watching HD footy. :p:

If you're looking forward to a drastic new look for the software, you're SO gonna be disappointed. Its a makeover - a very nice makeover, but mainly a makeover.

The EPG, Mini Guide, Set Favourties screen, Favourites channels pop-up....they look the same apart from the colour changes and a Virgin TV logo at the top left of the screen. Even the position of the live TV window is the same.

The other screens, as I said before, use a ordered list of options (like the current LCR3 software on the standard boxes), instead of the naff (IMO) 3x3 boxes layout on the current TV Drive software.

Even the letter which came with the guide says "most of the changes are only skin-deep, so it'll still feel familiar once you start using it."

Of course, any performance changes and bug fixes with the software won't be known until tomorrow, hopefully.

Yep, as you've guessed, Coventry is one of the areas where the pilot of UK2 (the Virgin branded EPG) is due to start tomorrow. It should start playing out around 5.30am to all box types. :)

I've got the new software on the old Pace Box, but I still have the old software on the TV Drive.

I had a very quick, 60 second play on the software on the Pace Box this morning, it looks very nice even on my 14" Portable TV, but by the looks of it, the new 1 day EPG has arrived (couldn't see an option to goto the next day on the EPG).

Re: New Virgin Guide delivered in post today

recieved the new UK2 code today (im in a Telewest area). Overall its better than the current (old) code but nothing too special.

ive found one bug with it so far, in On Demand pressing cursor down on some programme lists makes it skips to the next letter or day, driving me crazy!

Also, i thought when watching a VOD programme something else might be displayed on the LED rather than the last channel you were on. Has this feature been removed on ex-ntl's version?

This might be due to low batteries in your remote - have you tried replacing them?

Tried that, no effect (i have a pace 4000-t box.)
Found another bug - When I select a movie on filmFlex and go to the 'your selection' page, then press the red button to view the trailer in full screen, it lets me enter the pin then nothing happens. The trailer loads when you have parental control set to low - I have parental control settings on max, because there is no settings to control pay programs.

I didn't see this before, I just posted about this in the firmware review thread. It's not low batteries, and it only affects certain days; on Sunday's programmes I can select either of the two shows, but for Monday and Thursday pressing down takes me to the next day instead of the second show in the list.

Found another one - pressing 'i' on a VOD programme playback doesn't load up the programme info, only the title.

Coventry received the new code for TV Drives/V+ Boxes this morning. We also received the new code for standard boxes last week.

'Virginercation' in this part of the network is now complete. :)

Quite what Coventry City FC are going to do with the NTL Stand at the Ricoh Arena is anyone's guess. :)

I know, as a Cov Season Ticker holder, I don't want away fans singing "You're just a bunch of Virgins!"

Hell, with our record (no wins in last 9 games), the away fans are taking the **** anyway. :p:
