V+HD Box!

Also known as the TvDrive!

Virgin media are changing the whole look of it for folks on the bromley platform, It's gonna be called the V+Hd box (because BT are trying to stake claim to the V box) predominantly black with a small virgin media logo on the left and V+Hd box on the right.

Also the menu screens are going to change too, some folks may already have stumbled upon the new look menus with virgin tv in the corner.
This update (uk2) is going to every stb in the country and is meant to improve the speed of the epg and channel change.
Only time will tell! :D

Interesting change for the TV Drive, actively promoting it as "V+HD", when the only HD content you've got is a trial channel from the BBC which may end this spring, and a few films on filmflex running in HD - and no sign of any of the Sky/Discovery/Nat. Geo HD stuff anytime soon.

It won't fool customers one bit - TW areas already know there's naff all HD content!:D

Re: V+HD Box!

I have heard various bits of information on this today. I have heard on good authority through various internal sources that TVDrive has had a facelift, inside as well as out. TVDrive re-branded will be called V+.

Inside the box will be the new set top box code that is the future face of Virgin TV. This code is called UK2.

On Wednesday January 17th 2007, a V+ pilot will be launching in three Bromley franchises, Stockport, Oldham and Manchester.

On Thursday 18th January, A UK2 pilot will commence, this is the UK2 code which will be downloaded into all the boxes in three franchises: Basildon (Knowsley), Coventry (Langley) and Ashbury (Bromley).

Following the success of the pilots, it won't be long until UK2 code will be rolled out nationally and then the V+ HD box should be available to everyone.

OhMyGwadCoventryHasBeenChosen! I feel....blessed. :p:

So.....are all us existing TV Drive owners gonna get V+ stickers to 'stick' over the TV Drive logo on the boxes? (Didn't OnDigital do this when they changed to ITV Digital?)

tvdrive launches in the Solent region (Bromley) on the 23rd January. Can I assume I'll get a V+HD branded box?

LOL!! :D

Still....its gonna be a little confusing isn't it?

Customer "Help! My TV Drive isn't working!"

CS: "What's that then!?"

Customer "You know.....the TV Drive thingy."

CS: "Sorry Sir, we only deal with V and V+ boxes. Goodbye!"

Re: V+HD Box!

Then whoever calls support will have to be very silly not to just say pvr at some point of the conversation ;)

What does thie mean to those of us with a TV Drive already? Will they have to replace our box or will they just update the firmware on the existing TV Drive?

Odd that they don't chose Bromley for any of the "Bromley" pilots...

They will probably just update the firmware on the existing TV Drives.

Has anyone had a box branded V+HD yet then?

Doubt it, but could be wrong.

Re: V+HD Box!

the V+ HD boxes are the same hardware as the current TV Drive boxes apart from the colour (oh and V+ on the remote button instead of TV Drive)

The new code (for the Virgin Media guide) is pre-loaded on the boxes that are going in the Bromley areas. All other TV Drive boxes (Langley AND ex-Telewest ones) should have the code update by the end of January, in time for the Virgin Media relaunch sometime in Feb

There's a video demo of the V+HD box running the Virgin Media software in the On Demand offerings. Look under TV Choice -> What's New.

Cool! Black should always be the colour for AV kit. Pound to a pinch I'll get a silver one :( (Install 27/01 LE11)

Thanks for the pics mate. :tu:

It does look good in black, but I think I would still prefer it in silver because it would match with my TV, Hi Fi and DVD player. :)

Cool! . . . .so with Virgin Media...Virgin HD, and Virgin + (so to speak) are all in the one box? The box has both a harddrive, and High Definition stuff?

Sounds great but i really wonder how much it will cost per month, and for the box.

---------- Post added at 18:59 ---------- Previous post was at 18:57 ----------

Also I wonder when those boxes and remotes will be available. Knowing me 'll get an old ntl: one.

quadplay 18-01-2007 19:05

Re: V+HD Box!

Yep, PVR and HD in one box.

The box is free as long as you subscribe (it's rented, not purchased by the subscriber). Installation is free for new Digital TV customers and existing customers who keep their current STB.

V+ service costs £15 monthly for TV: Size M and Size L customers, and £10 for Size XL customers.

ntlrocks 18-01-2007 19:23

Re: V+HD Box!

So when will all these prices (including package prices) be put on the website. On ntl's u.k website there is NOTHING about PVR or HD at all.

It's on the Telewest website because TV Drive has been available to Telewest customers for a long time, but it's still pretty new for ntl. I don't think all ntl customers can get it yet, could be wrong. I'm sure they will advertise the V+HD box on the new Virgin Media website which is coming soon.

The V+ Box is available to NTL customers.

I live in Salford (Manchester)and I being installed next Wednesday with the new Box. I have to pay £15 per month for the box on top of my 2 for £20 deal I have. Not sure if I will get the black V+ box though, Have to wait and see

So fat people get it cheaper?

Well, I suppose they'll be using it the most...

They missed a prime opportunity here to redesign what is another god awful remote... it is almost on a par with that silver TW one that is given with non-PVR boxes :)

Anyone know how M, L and XL relate to the current NTL packages? Is XL = Family or is it a complete re-working?

Thanks

Not a complete reworking...

XL = Family Pack
L = Base Pack
M = Free TV Pack

And the Select TV pack will be renamed the Starter TV Pack :)

Yes - whilst the respray of the box itself has improved the look of it - the new remotes make the old "shark" ones look fantastic by comparison. Personally, I'd have preferred it if they'd redesigned the shark to allow for a "record" button like they did with the new keyboards.
