DVD shrink works well IMHO

Or RatDVD works well and you can play the output files in most media players

I've never had that problem  I just put dvd in, open prog select open disk and back up, it does the rest for you, writing this from memory so might be a bit vague, what dvd are you trying to back up ??

dvd decrypter is old and wary now as it has not been updated for a good while and encryption has thats why now I have to recommend dvdfab decrypter http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

I've had this on some discs. My way round it was to run anydvd in the background. Anyway zings way will work. Um so will mine, and a fair few others that have been posted ;)... So I guess the op has some research/testing to do ;)

My way is to use DVD Xplayer Pro when I can't be doing with all the ripping malarky. Saves having an extra program like AnyDVD running in the background

so wat u r trying to say is to run anydvd in the background n rip the cd with a different software?
in this case, which software is recomended?
also, would that software actually allow me to choose the format i want? the reason being, i ripped with anydvd. and was trying to convert with jetaudio.jetaudio was showing hours before completion even when using max resources!

Well once you have the ripped image/files you could run it through aoa dvdripper or similar to turn it into divx. But the other people in this thread seem to have much better ways of doing it than me.

p.s. it will take a fair time to convert to divx or similar and it will use a lot of resources, unless you have a fancy pc of course :)

Re: dvd ripper

So (yup a major bump here ;)) before I download the ratDVD files I'm about to download, is it easy to convert them back into normal DVD and burn them?

Re: dvd ripper

Us Mac users use handbrake, it's also available for Windows and Linux.

Sources

Any DVD-like source: VIDEO_TS folder, DVD image or real DVD encrypted or unencrypted, PAL and NTSC.
Audio: AC-3, DTS, LPCM or MPEG

Output

File format: MP4, MKV, AVI or OGM.
Video: MPEG-4 or H.264.
Audio: AAC, MP3, Vorbis or AC-3 pass-through.

Also

Chapter selection
Basic subtitle support (burned into the picture)
Integrated bitrate calculator
Picture deinterlacing, cropping and scaling
Grayscale encoding

There are another 17 presets that you can set your output for, heres just a few

Apple TV
iPod, iPod Touch and the iPhone
PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable
Xbox 360

And there's tons more you can do with it. Although it's not as quick as DVD shrink, I believe you can do a lot more with it.
